We're up against Adelaide IIRC, so we don't really need Toovey/Goldsack, they're not a very attacking side. Johnson shouldn't be in consideration. Sidebottom to come in for McCarthy if the latter struggles. Rocca to come in if he can run out a game in the 2's.

edit: TRS, how do you justify leaving Cox out after he's been in the votes all 3 games in the pre-season cup, and played reasonably well in the finals?

Actually, looking at my team, Rocca probably won't be ready for round 1 so if he comes out, either Dawes comes in OR Cox comes in and Reid pushes forward.

Goldsack played just aswell, if not better than Cox last night and I think Johnno has been good enough to be given a go first up (but I'm starting to doubt that), although if Cox plays well again this week then I'd go with him instead.

But some roles dictate the way they will play. Swan won't be given responsibility for an opposition forward and will rarely start outside of the centre square (when on the ground).

I don't see Reid being a wingman, because we have better options for the important outside midfielder roles on the list. He may be a leading half forward, but he will start his leads from around the 50 and not push deep into half back (as he has never been used this way before with us).

Tough call. In terms of similar players (medium rebounding defenders) I rate O'Brien and Shaw more highly and Maxwell is the captain. It's great to have players competing for a senior berth but the real thing has 22 spots available, not the 26 of NAB Cup. You'll notice I've left Goldsack and Toovey out as well.

There a few of those tight calls to make

Like Steele V Beams, Cox V Goldsack, Johnson V McCarthy V Toovey.

Makes spots hard to come by, and good depth.

Personally, I prefer Beams at this stage. Bit more in and under, which I think is what we need.

Absloutely fantastic to see people struggling with who to leave out at this stage of the year... Cox missing out after how he played last night!

Rocca and rus need to come through the reserves. Medhurst could do with a run in match conditions too. What a great problem to have! Go WO9Ds

Almost perfect, but I'd say Sidebottom out, with Rocca in, they are talking Pebbles up as a chance for round 1, but we will find out probably in the VFL game a week before the season, from rumours that will be Rocca's 1st hitout.

Mate really i cant fault him. His laziness, softness at the contest, shit foot skills when i know he can do better all gone.

If we can keep hi loose down around half back and he sets us up we will be hard to beat as you cant just sit on heath and let Marty, maxwell, and cox go

Potential Weaknesses-
1. Quality ruckman( Josh is great around the ground but ordinary as a tap ruckman, Bryan lacks polish and Wood lacks physical presence. I don't think you can play both Fraser and Wood in the one side so based on that and on Bryan's better recent form , he gets the nod)

2.Midfielders who can win clearances.

3. Will Anthony Rocca and Presti last the whole season??????

McCarthy and Beams are still very young and both may struggle to put a whole season together.

It's a big call to have Beams in our best 22 based on 3 meaningless NAB Cup games against ordinary opposition, but the kid looks a natural footballer and has the body for AFL level

I'm tipping that Reid will be the man in for Rocca, though they could go with Macaffer if they decide they like the the two big man set up with Anthony and Cloke. Cox or Goldsack could easily take Johnson's place. Beams and Sidebottom's positions for me is going to depend on how they play this week. So far they seem to have the form to warrant selection however MM's not going to gift them a main season debut if others go ahead of them this week.
