This should be made into a profession. With a competitive wage. They can make PE teaching their side hustle not the other way around.

Professionalism means accountability. Even as a ‘part time role’ I don’t know of any other profession where you can be so poor at your job and still keep it.

Ive umpired before, used to help the 3rds n 4ths out back in the day. Its easy. You make it hard when you try and find free kicks. They need to stop doing that. You dont give free kicks because it “might be there” .. its fairer on both sides if the 50/50 ones are let go.

Also, the throw is hard to pick up because the rule says you dont have to hand pass from a stationary hand any longer. It once upon a time did say that. Bring that back so any throw action is a throw. Those over the head throws, I would pin every one of them as s throw. Unless the fist propelled the ball.

Similar for myself in junior footy and basketball. Call what you see, if you're guessing then don't make a call.

In the case of juniors, it's also a requirement to explain why something was called as it was. Sometimes feels like this would be appropriate for the TV audience also.

The challenge in the AFL is that rulings have been given to the umpires to make the game a better spectacle so things that should be pinged are let go in the spirit of keeping the ball moving. Some teams have capitalised on this "spilling of the ball" which is clearly incorrect disposal.

It won't be long before the AFL can be reclassified similar to the WWE as Sports Entertainment.

MLB recently brought in an Automatic Balls and Strikes system where players can call for review if they think the call is egregious.
And the umpires are getting PISSED because the worst of them are being exposed for how shit they are.


Can only dream the AFL would hold their rulekeepers to the same standard.

It’s time they stopped protecting them and opened it up for post game questioning. Explain the decisions, give reasons and/or own up to mistakes. The hidden nature of the current system makes it look like a cover up. It would also expose the frauds who consistently get calls wrong or umpire to reputations.

Now I cant stand Poorta, but the half of footy I watched..

Front on contact in the first minute - Blatant as ****. No FK poorta should have had a shot from 25 directly in front.

Liam ryan ducks head - No FK aints goal - I dont know what drugs Huddo and Lynch were on but thats HTB not a FK to Ryan.

Some Aints player picks ball up and drives his head into the **** of a poorta player - FK to Aints

Liam Ryan again accentuates an over the shoulder hand and dives like a tip rat FK aints - Goal Aints

Down the field FK to the $2m dollar man for a flop - goal aints

What is the rule? Leading with your head and flopping? I had no interest in the game but this is disgraceful umpiring that 100% influenced the result of the game.

What I saw of the port game last night was woeful.
Sadly all the media attention will go to that game and will overlook how bad it was in our game.
Port will get a lovely run from umpires next week and we will likely get shafted again

Also Nick Foot. Can’t umpire, can’t pick a winner either…. Used to hear him on Racing Pulse…. Far too cocky for someone so bad at their job.

Not commenting on Nick Foot as a person, but the fact the AFL are happy to have someone who works for a betting company also officiate their game is absolutely ****ed.

I do find it strange that the umpire mics only magically stopped working during a period where it's claimed a player abused an umpire. Bit sus.
