Hey guys,

i was trawling through some old games and i saw this game for Freo.

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/games/2000/081620000618.html

Brendan Fewster was a hack WAFL footballer who got about 40 games too many for WCE and Freo, but I was more interested in this.

3 Brownlow votes, 18 disposals, 8 kicks, 10 handballs, 16 hit outs.

Anyone aware of other low disposal games with 3 brownlow votes?

Trevor Poole, Round 5, 1987 - Richmond vs. Sydney @ the MCG
19 disposals, 0 goals, 8 frees against in a 20-point loss, 3 Brownlow votes.

In the same game, Warwick Capper had 20 disposals, 10 marks, 7 goals, 5 behinds and received no Brownlow votes.

Damian Houlihan, Round 11, 1994 - Adelaide vs. Collingwood @ Victoria Park
12 disposals, 3 hitouts in a 23-point win, 3 Brownlow votes.

It was only his 5th game, and he did restrict Tony Modra (who was averaging 5.5 goals per game up until that point in the season) to 'just' 2 goals, 7 behinds  But still, Nathan Buckley had 29 disposals, and Chris McDermott had 35 disposals, and neither of them managed to get a vote on the night. It was probably Houlihan's best game for Collingwood, but that's probably not saying much, as he only played 6 more after this anyway.

Jon Dorotich pretty much owns this thread.

My favourite is this one, Round 6, 1992 - Carlton vs. St. Kilda @ Princes Park: 3 disposals, 0 marks, 1 free against = 2 Brownlow Votes.

I can recall a discussion here about this game, you can probably find it with a search. Locket had kicked 6 goals to half time, Dorotich restricted him to a single kick in the 2nd half.

Actually kickless, according to me

Rd 7 1999, Garth Taylor (Fre)
10 kicks, 6 handballs, 7 marks, 3 tackles & a behind.

Dale Kickett's stats that day were 22 touches & I remember thinking perhaps the umpies had these two confused - good idea letting umpires award the votes!

Rd James Walker (Fre)
11 kicks, 2 handballs, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 2 goals 1 behind.

These were his only bronwlow votes in his 151 game career & I think he held the record for most games without a vote.

Nathan Bassett in a loss against Geelong. 9 kicks, 10 handpasses, 4 marks and no other stats, not even a tackle.

Scarlett had 30 touches, 14 marks and single handedly won Geelong the game. Thompson also managed 34 touches and 3 goals for the Crows.

Round 16, 2003 - Adam Goodes 13 possessions = 2 votes
Round 17, 2003 - Adam Goodes 12 possessions = 2 votes

2003 Brownlow medalist..........
How about this

Round 1, 2007 - Jacob Surjan 11 possessions 1 goal = 2 Votes
While pavlich got 18 posessions and kicked 5 goals for 1 vote

Not 3 Brownlow votes, but Guy Richards received 1 vote for his career.

He got 1 vote in Round 2, a win against Hawthorn, his stats were a staggering...

1 kick, 3 marks, 5 handballs, 13 hitouts, 4 tackles, 1 free for, 3 frees against and no score.

Rocca got 3 votes for his 8 goals and Ben Johnson got 2 for 31 disposals and a goal.

He got votes cos he towelled Peter Bell up that day. BTW, Port's best ever quarter of footy 3rd q of that game. Ahhh, I have watched it a few times since then. Signalled the end of connelly.

Is it correct that in Round 14 2003 in a match against Melbourne, Carlton's Corey McKernan was awarded three Brownlow Medal Votes courtesy of a blinding first quarter, but was off the ground injured after quarter time?

Not a BOG but this was still pretty bad. Round 7, 2007, Brisbane V Adelaide

Ian Perrie got 1 vote for an 8 possession, 4 mark, 1 goal game.
Tyson Edwards had 33 possessions and a goal but no votes
Simon Goodwin had 30 possessions and 2 goals but no votes.

Again, not quite the three votes, but it adds to his earlier mentions...

Adam Goodes got two votes against Geelong in round 5 last year (Geelong won by 42 points!).

14 touches, 5 tackles, kicked 0.4.

Johnson had 22 touches and kicked 4.1 (no votes)... Bartel had 27, 10 tackles and 2 goals (no votes). Great player, but umpires sure do love Goodesy

I came in here just to mention that. Ironically after that game, Paul Roos commented about how poor Goodes had played. Has to be the worst 2 vote performance I have ever witnessed.

Yep, I remember that too and I am still filthy.
It cost me an absolute packet of money on brownlow bets.

The umpires for that game are a bunch of disgraceful halfwits.

There was no way Goodes should even have been in the top 25 for that game let alone 2nd best. So many deserving Geelong players missed out too.

Lets name and shame the umpires again for posterity's sake.

Mcburney, Rosebury, Ellis

According to this thread he played a blinding first quarter, and was basically unsighted after. No mention of an injury.
