Re: Post your stats questions here

Could anybody direct me to a link giving me information on
the last 10 times two teams played each other......

This would come in very handy in regards to me placing my bets.....
Seeing how many times North have won at football park over the
last 5 or six years.....
Finding out how many times a team has won interstate over a period of
years........
Teams performances at night ect.....

Thanks in advance

Re: Post your stats questions here

Not so much wanting a fact but a definition.

What does efficiency mean in terms of the statsman watching the game?

Does a hospital handpass count where the player immediately gets tackled?

Does a forward kick count that reaches the target on the bounce under the pump from a chasing opponent?

Does a "switch" count as efficient if it goes backwards?

I asked all this because the efficiency %s from some players astounds me and I cannot find a clear definition anywhere of what is efficient.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Here is an interesting one i reckon.

The Demons were 16th last week, and of course lost again this weekend by just one point to the Pies.

This defeat and the relative percentage gain (from 52% to 71%) has seen them rise to 12th on the table.

Would this be the largest RISE up the ladder despite losing a game?

Reckon it would have to come close....

Reminds me a bit of the 1985 season, where St.Kilda opened the season with three successive 100 point whippings, the 3rd of those saw their percentage rise by about 8% despite the flogging 211-98 by the Tigers. Reckon that would also be about the only instance of such a massive loss increasing a team's percentage!

A move of 4 places up the ladder after a loss is the most.
(Some sources may have have St Kilda moving up 4 places after losing to Carlton in round 4 1900, but this doesn't take into account that round 3 was postponed and not played until after round 14.)

There have been a few instances of moving up 3 places after a loss, the last was in round 2 1959 - Collingwood went from 12th to 9th after losing to Melbourne.

The biggest % increase after a 100 point or more loss is not as easy to find, I'll think about.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Seems* like St Kilda's 113 pt loss is the only 100+ to result in a percentage increase, the next best is 95 by Melb, Rd 2, 2008.

Biggest increase after loss is 26% by Carlton, at the very first opportunity, Rd 2,1897.

*A quickie, both may be completely wrong :)

Re: Post your stats questions here

Thanks Rogersresults.....and the associated footystats site is a must for a footyhead like myself. Nice to know i managed to point out an oddity that indeed was a one-off! I guess with 16 sides the scope to rise is significantly more than with a 12-team comp, but i would suggest the Demons will be in unique company with that little tidbit.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Fremantle's Michael Barlow has had a fantastic start to his career, collecting 33 then 34 possessions in his first two games. For where we do have disposal statistics, does Dean Greig hold the record for most games from debut collecting 20 or more possessions? Dean managed that feat for his first 11 games.

So did Greg Williams, who managed it in 21 of his first 22 games.

New stat urgently required!

We really need a stat to represent all those meaningless possessions racked up in junk time when teams share the ball in the backline to waste or buy time. They should be called Bowdens.

Or those who play-on from the kickout to get their stats up. They can be called 'Heaths'.

Bowden had a reputation for getting cheap stats which was warranted in certain games, but he usually featured near the top of "metres gained" lists.

Re: New stat urgently required!

Hey, does anyone know where I could find the amount of ruck contests (stoppages) contested by each team last year? I'm playing SuperCoach and would be very interested to see the amount of ruck contests at West Coast in the days Mark Seaby was there, compared to Sydney's. Thanks very much for any help. :thumbsu:

These are the total hit-outs in games involving each club, which will give you some idea. Figures are for the 22 h&a games only, so are directly comparable.

Re: Post your stats questions here

When was the last time the accuracy in shooting for goal across a round was as low as 45.45%?

This round 190 goals and 228 behinds were kicked, with only six teams kicking more goals than behinds.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Adelaide are 0-3. Can someone list all teams in the Final 8 era that have made finals from a 0-3 start?

Re: Post your stats questions here

North Melbourne 2007
Melbourne 2006
Geelong 2004
Adelaide 2001
Sydney 1999

Offering further hope to supporters of teams with bad starts.

Eventual premiers Carlton lost the first 3 in 1945 and only got into the final 4 after the last match, round 20.
Eventual premiers Nth Melbourne lost the first 4 in 1975. North were on 3 wins and 6 losses after round 9 and 10th on the ladder. They made it to 4th position after round 14 with 7 wins and 7 losses. They then won 7 of their last 8 matches to finish 3rd.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Cheers. I just had a look. No team has started 0-4 and made the top 8, so West Coast and Adelaide* need to start this week if they want to see finals action.

* Didn't think it necessary to mention Richmond.
