Victoria - 23 by Geelong 1952-53
Melbourne - 21* by Richmond 2017-18
Richmond:
24 in a row at Punt Rd (1932-35)
22* in a row in Melbourne (to come, ESS, WBD)
19* in a row in Victoria
19* in a row at the MCG

Could Essendon cause an upset and save Geelong's Victorian record?

Richmond could finish the year with:
27* in a row in Melbourne (to come, ESS, WBD)
24* in a row in Victoria
24* in a row at the MCG

The record winning streak at any ground is 29 by Geelong at Kardinia Park (2008-11).

so Richmond up to 22 consecutive wins in Melbourne now, Essendon and Bulldogs to come.

Come on. Richmond can't beat the Bulldogs. They haven't beaten them since 2013. Richmond haven't beaten every other team since the beginning of 2017.

Highest 1/4 time score with scores level? Was 33-33 at the Showdown.

Melbourne vs North Melbourne a few decades ago.

55-all and also the highest scoring 1st quarter in VFL/AFL history.

Has there ever been a home and away round in league history in period of 12 clubs from 1925 to 1986 where 4 games were decided by less than a goal ?

The other thread says yes. The question is has it ever happened in one day.

Wow, round 13, 1938 had four games on same day out of the six matches be decided by 1 point.
66.67% of matches decided by under a goal for a round.
Round 13, 1938

Hawthorn 10.9 (69) Melbourne 9.16 (70) Glenferrie Oval 7,000 23 July 1938
Geelong 14.20 (104) St Kilda 15.13 (103) Corio Oval 7,000 23 July 1938
Fitzroy 13.8 (86) Footscray 18.21 (129) Brunswick Street Oval 16,000 23 July 1938
South Melbourne 14.11 (95) North Melbourne 13.18 (96) Lake Oval 8,000 23 July 1938
Essendon 17.17 (119) Collingwood 17.16 (118) Windy Hill 13,000 23 July 1938
Richmond 20.12 (132) Carlton 12.19 (91) Punt Road Oval 28,000 23 July 1938

The biggest percentage of results under a goal decided in a round apart from round 13 ,1960 that equally that percentage.
If 1 of the 3 matches tomorrow decided under a goal we will have the third time in league history 66.67% of matches decided by less than a goal in a round.
If 2 out of the 3 matches are decided by less than a goal it will be a new record percentage of games for a round decided by less than a goal.

Round 13, 1960

Melbourne 6.13 (49) St Kilda 6.9 (45) MCG 42,935 23 July 1960
Footscray 9.10 (64) North Melbourne 9.8 (62) Western Oval 14,133 23 July 1960
Essendon 16.16 (112) Richmond 10.10 (70) Windy Hill 17,000 23 July 1960
Collingwood 7.15 (57) Hawthorn 7.16 (58) Victoria Park 18,637 23 July 1960
Carlton 5.10 (40) Fitzroy 12.12 (84) Princes Park 26,796 23 July 1960
South Melbourne 10.20 (80) Geelong 11.13 (79) Lake Oval 8,350 23 July 1960

Jesus! That’s a free kick a minute!
I watched a video on youtube of a game from 1978 and what really stood out to me in terms of umpiring is they did not **** around with waiting to make a decision. If someone attempted to tackle and did anything but tackle between knees and waist , whistle blown without hesitation and free to guy getting the ball. Similarly if totally clean tackle and any spillage of ball, free against holding the ball. ****, we crying out for that type of thing right now. We moved so far from that type of umpiring it is scary to see the contrast after seeing a game then and going yesterday.

Convoluted question but here goes.

Regarding matches won when only winning one quarter.

E.g. Hawthorn on Saturday beat Essendon winning only one quarter (the 2nd) by just 13 points. Got me wondering what's the lowest single qtr margin that was enough to win the game.

Checking Hawthorn wins, they've won twice with a smaller one-quarter margin. In 2008 Hawthorn beat Adelaide, only winning the final qtr and only winning that qtr by 7 points. In 1977 they beat Nth in similar fashion, winning the last qtr by 8 points.

What's the record across all games?

2009 Grand Final.
https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/2009/091520090926.html

Well, that's the most notable game that falls into this category - the first Grand Final it ever happened in which a team lost each of the first three quarters and won the Premiership.

Geelong won the last quarter by 19pts (including 6pts after the siren).

So 13pts at the final bell....

Bugger.

Have these things ever happened before, or when was the last time.....

Last Round there were 2 games with all four clubs scoring over 100pts? I suspect this wasn't that long ago.

There are more games a week to play any week now. This needs to be reminded about with regards to perspective of most of history the league had 6 games a round, not 9. Hence it is easier to get more of something when there is more games to be played in same round.
