exactly
i dont get where your going with this??
that play showed that cleve doesnt shorten his stride and shows that he will go back with the flight when needed and he is not soft.
what point are you trying to make exactly?

the point? dude, any footballer in any comp, when found in the situation where he has to go back with the flight, will invariably do it, whether its because they dont give a ****, or whether its because if they dont, then they will be marked for life, they bite the bullet and do it. If they dont then its ****ing curtains. They will be forever bagged by the opposition players and moreso lose the respect of the team mates.
Have you ever played the game dude? If you get find yourself in the situation, you will invariably know that you have to go for it, and its always the case where you know, i am probably going to get crunched, but if i dont, then i am a marked man for the rest of my career. i.e. take the pain at the time if it comes, or take a life time of ridicule, which one would you opt for?
The interesting thing is, that if you actually understand and watch and have played the game, you would see that 9 times out of 10, nothing much happens, because i for one reckon the player coming the other way is more in the gun, because he can see what is coming, and thoughts start happening and invariably the player running back with the flight takes the mark.

But as i say there are experts in faking an attempt, and one is a tiger. If you watch him, he will attempt to run back, but as he gets closer, his stride will shorten, and get there to late. The attempt is deemed to be courages, but the excuse is that he was to slow. Works a treat.
The end. ;)

He can get them for Coburg. Let me say Cleve will be lucky to play more then 6games next season. Just not up2 it and the sooner we delist him the better

That's what you want. It's not what you expect. We all know you hate cleve because he didn't have time to sign your jumper at training :o

Cleve is the old-fashioned lead, mark and kick forward. If he concentrates on these areas and gets enough supply he will kick 50 easily. If he is asked or expected to do anything else he will be de-listed next year.

he can do that for 20 games, and that gives him 60+. Any improvment in other areas is bonus time. You see when he gets lost in the play, that means his man isnt where he is. When you are FF, this is a big advantage, because all you need is 4 chances and convert them and job done.

As for this pearler, "Also Dunstall had strength, ground skills, and at least servicable pace off the first few steps. Cleve has none of those abilities", i would suggest that if what you are saying is true, then we are pretty well ****ed, because i would be asking WTF did the recruiters see in him, if he didnt have none of those skills? ;)
Why do you think he was AA under 18 CHF and rated very highly, and yet slipped to our 2nd round pick? He has many more flaws at this stage than abilities. His work rate and attitude on the field are subpar. His ground skills, and acceleration are shite from what i've seen. He goes missing for extended periods of the match and although his leads are to the right areas, he often mistimes them or *shock horror* tries to lead at the same time as richo or browny are leading.

I remember watching one of his first matches rd 6 2006 vs essendon and thinking "this guy knows where and how to lead" but as the match went on i realised he wasnt looking around him to see who else was leading...it was as if he was still playing under 18s and he expected the midfielders to kick it to him just because he is cleve hughes. That attitude continues to this day in my opinion. Also, I am pretty sure he was on dean solomon in that match, who managed to keep up on the lead

Cleve has the potential to bulk up and build up his tank...which combined with his pre-existing kicking and marking skills might make him a half decent player...but not at full forward. I think he has the potential to be a good CHF, the type that straightens a team up by floating around the arc and providing a target when we are on the rebound. I would the following averages from him in this position:

10 kicks
0-5 handballs
5-10 marks
1-2 goals
2-3 goal assists
Plenty of inside 50s.

I don't want to see 6 kicks and 6 goals from steamer. I want to see 12 kicks, 3 or 4 goals with a few assists but more importantly some tackles and defensive pressure in the forward line. He needs to become a more well rounded player.

That would be ideal but he is what he is and it's no Jon Brown and I am convinced that's unlikely to change.

I am not sure about which direction Cleve is heading but I do agree that it's a crunch year for him.

Needs several opportunities early in the year but if he fails to fire I could easily see him being traded at year's end.
