and look at the position we are in this year. Feels good doesn't it?

I found myself after today's game getting caught up in all the negativity around the umpiring, our poor first half, the on going Hams and Masten debate etc etc but really, look at it.

We won the spoon last year. At the start of the year we weren't a chance of making the finals yet alone the top 4. Yet here we are, almost secured us a top 4 spot today :thumbsu:

All the Freo and Carlton supporters can keep going on about how we don't belong in the top 4 and the Bombers supporters can go on about the umpiring being the reason they lost today, i don't care.

Well done Eagles :thumbsu:

Bullshit. Impartial umpires would make Essendon an 11 goal better team, didn't you hear larri?

Fair dinkum - you would think with all the whining going on that the umps must have personally kicked all our goals.

Why 1996? Not a premiership year?

We lost Woosha and Jako to season-ending knee injuries. Lost four in a row at the start of the year and then backed it up with 11 straight wins.

Blooded Phil Matera, Ben Cousins and others. Peter Matera AA HBF, Mainy AA on the Wing, Mitchell White AA HFF.

Above that we played some great footy with a young bunch.

The similarities between 1996 and 2011 are eerie.

This season is just so good because we are coming from the cellars. We can honestly sit back and see players we have payed out on step up and actually grow and perform week in week out.

MASSIVE improvement on last year :thumbsu:

Still.... i take it waaaaay too personally when we lose. I'm just so hungry for more wins now, and i expect them. If we lose, it pretty much just wrecks my weekend.

If the eagles AND my supercoach team lose on the weekend..... people know better then to speak in front of me.

You saying we're going to win the premiership in 2021??

:p

Totally awesome to be where we are, credit to the coaching staff on implementing a winning game plan and A+ drafting in 2010. Makes it even sweeter winning both derbies and seeing Freo in all likelihood miss the 8.

Got absolutely spanked today. The look on Harvey's face at the presser was priceless. :p

To think at the beginning of this season I woulda been happy with an improvement of 10th - 12th after the horror year... unfriggingbelievable

Yep.

And umpires are rarely a factor in 9 goal losses...
Por umpiring can be crucial at a time where a team has a ru on and can sp confidence. I don't think umpiring cost Essndon the game but it didn't help. We certainly got a good run despite my trepidation when I saw Margetts run on to the round.

As they say tho,' what goes around comes around, and over the years Essendon have benefited from umpire support particularly whenever Hird got near he ball. He was treated the same way Judd and Reiwold are now

This is what makes me laugh at the rage at the umpiring. The amount of close games at Etihad against Essendon where Hird got soft calls in crucial situations makes me feel no pain for them after yesterday.
But as Larri said rarely a factor let alone major factor in a nine goal loss. Once again had we kicked straight we would have been about 5 goals up at half time (maybe that lead would have triggered a usual 3rd Q performance from us ;) )

I will never feel pain for them after we didn't get the home final for finishing higher on the ladder, can't remember exactly which year in the 90's, that we should have got. :(

swannies happened twice once in the nineties can't remember when and then again in the thousands early in woosha's coaching career fletcher tripped judd when we were getting a run on, which left juddy limping for the rest of the match pretty sure we finished 6th and they 7th and had to play over there
