He never wanted to be at the club.

He parties more than Tarrant, Johnson and Didak put together, thats before during and after the footy season!

No where near as good as he was when at Port. To be honest I think he takes his career for granted. I think it is time we approached Collingwood to discuss the move there. He always wanted to go there. So maybe Stevens, 19 for collingwood first rounder. Relistically that isn't going to happen so maybe Stevens and R. Shaw...

Thoughts?

He has another year on his contract, so let's assess him then.

He wasn't at his best this year, but he was still top 5 in our B&F and was one of our best ball accumulators. He'll be better next year.

Besides, let's not give Collingwood their next captain. Let them develop their own players. :thumbsu:

you got him for nothing and you're still complaining?????

he'll play out his career at Carlton so either embrace it or slash your wrists.

No good getting a player for nothing if he isn't going to perform, however, I do agree with Funky. Let's assess where he is at when his contract ends.

He wouldnt be on much would he, seeing as he came to us with a PSD no 1... in the end we could broker a deal to pay half of his salary ($100k maybe?) and then end up with someone whose heart is in it?

Agree. If he does leave though, hopefully we can still get a good deal for him. Although, I think he'll play out his career with the Blues

He just finds it hard having the number 1 tag every week, and having very little supprt through the midfield.

You nominate your terms in the PSD. For memory it was about 1.5 million over 4 years.

I thought it was a bit more than that ODN, say closer to 2 million over 4 years.

He is not worth that kind of money... what the hell were we thinking???

He would want to check his attitude and committment to footy at the door before turning up to pre-season training to justify earning that kind of $$$!!!

IMO, he needs to shed a few kilos and get fit so that if he is tagged again then he can be fit enough to shake the tags ala Chris Judd. For the record, I am not comparing Stevo to Judd as players because Judd is >>>>>>>> Stevo. Just saying that fitness plays a big part in Judd being able to shake the tags.

Agreed! Less time at Rue Bar - Ivanhoe and more time pounding the bike tracks of leafy greensborough!

Judd>>>>>>any other player in the AFL.

Agree. I love the guy! He is my fave AFL player. What I would do to get him in the navy blue (I know will never happen unfortunately) :(

with murphy, simo, walker and gibbs, stevens could be our 5th best midfielder in a few years. he will only be 27, so if he gets his act together he could have a very very good 4 or 5 years with the club

doubt he'd last for long else where so why bother we'll have more out of him then if he went elsewhere collingwood can get their next captain out of their own Players :D

If stevens realises that hes getting more support in the middle, and that the team starts to build upside, wouldnt he pick up his game and be the player we know he can be?

Spot on:thumbsu:
Stevo has been in cruise control for a season.
If we draft Gibbs, and with Simo improving a couple of things will happen:
a) There will be competition for the receivers spots in the team. This should push Stevo to perform or he will be out on his ear (into the Ants?)
b) Taggers won't know where to go. As Stevo had a poor year probably Murphey and Gibbs/Simo. This will free up Stevens a little and, if we start to get some momentum he will perk up.

Remember he did miss his Bro's wedding to play for our pre season cup. He wamts to win and has been coasting because the light at the end of the tunnel was too far away, and he's had little support in the midfield with Kouta dropping off ........(leave it Effes).

He will perform next year or be traded IMO.

Had a groin injury and was told not to train too hard in the summer

Prepares himself like a true professional

Ask Marc Murphy what he thinks of Nick

yea he was at rue bar on friday night but pre season has not started yet mate. Don't go overboard because you've seen him out once.

Finey on SEN hinted that St. Kilda were looking at Stevens & this would involve pick 9.
It may also take a shuffleof other picks between the Saints & Blues.

I'd hold onto him for another year.

I dont want to see our young mids taking all the hits at this stage of their development.

IMO we shouldnt trade stevo. He is a great player but didnt have the best of years. With good young midfielders comnig through walker, simpson, murphy, blackwell, russel and maybe Gibbs he could teach them a lot. also he has great foot skills as well.

haha he was there last friday as well then... mate the guy is a chronic clubber! He is also one who doesn't know how to have a "quiet drink". Just because it is the off season doesn't mean let yourself go. The whole idea of preseason is not to just get back to where you were at the start of the previous season it is to put yourself in a better position than the year before. If you are letting yourself go I doubt he is going to work extra hard to get to where he needs to be!

I had no idea he was getting that much. I would wait until next year and see where he's at, however pick 9 would make things very interesting.

I would have thought that he has done the hard yards, and their are blue skies ahead.

For me it is subjective, but if he doesn't put in off season, then sure he should be gone, but if that is just speculation, enjoy his break and be in tip top shape come next year.
