Just wondering how the Crows supporters truly feel about Tyson being an Eagle? Have you watched any of his games for the Eagles and how is he playing compared to the Crows? Obviously it takes a while for a player to learn to fit in to a teams plan but after watching him play he is already one of my favourites. Loves the tough ball, floats back and takes some good defensive marks. Do you have any hard feelings or do you wish him well?

Please remind me what the Crows got for him?

Not 100% sure but I think the Crows ended up with Thompson from Melbourne in a 3 way deal that saw Paul Johnson from the Eagles go to the Dees.

he is a bum that left the club, when they needed him. Although most crows supporters love him.

Its funny you mention the hard ball he gets, most of the wcoast ppl were saying he was a half back flank in your team, cause of your midfield, but now you can see he is quite the opposite.

Actually, I think you'll find that Paul Johnson was secured in a separate deal. Melbourne received a first-round draft pick from the Stenglein trade, which was then on-traded to secure Brent Maloney.

Scott Thompson will be a good player for Adelaide, presuming he has the good fortune to ever take the park...

The only game i've seen Stinger play for WC is the final of the Wizz Fizz cup. He seemed to be playing a more attacking game which is a tad confusing looking at the strenth of the WC midfield.

Trade was -

Tyson Stenglein to WC
Draft Pick 12 to Melbourne
Scott Thompson and Draft Pick 28 (Used on Chad Gibson) To Adelaide

Well, I certainly hope that he plays in a losing side on Sunday. ;)

Apart from that, nope, no hard feelings at all. He was a good player for us and we got fair value for him when he went.

To answer Hasus's question above, we got WCE's 1st and 2nd round draft picks, which we used to get Thompson via Melbourne and Gibson via the draft respectively.

As for how the WCE will use him - the same as he was used in the Crows, which was a negating tagging run with player who can run with players ranging from the size of Peter Bell to Anthony Koutafides. You don't give up your first 2 round draft picks to get a HBF.

They wanted Stenglein, as he puts some accountability into a talented but unaccountable mid-field.

im not sure what role he is going to play. i get feeling woosh doesnt want to be a hard tagger. which i find disapointing because thats what we need.

adelaide got a good deal for him which was softened on us because we traded a dud in paul johnson for pick 29 and had morton taken f/s.

What he said.

Good luck to him and I am sure a lot of Eagles supporters will love what Stinger brings to the table. He is one bloke who can never be accused of not giving his all when he takes the field. One of many reasons he was considered our future captain.

A lot of Eagles supporter are still not sure what to expect from Stinger !

We know that we paid a high price for him, our first and second round draft picks. :( Therefore our coaching staff and football department wanted him badly.

So far he has been servicable without starring , and as theorangeapples said he has played in a much more attacking role than what he played with the Crows.

In fairness to him we need to give him time to settle into his new role with new team mates.

The Crows faithful , tell us that we have traded well

Time will tell ?? At least at 24 years old we should get 100-125 games out of him.

Stinger is not a player which stars but a solid and consistently performs. He's not a player that gets noticed he just works hard negating a player and is not like chris judd were he gets a lot of attention. He's a player that gets unnoticed alot IMO

Although it appears separate, I'm pretty sure Melbourne giving up #29 for Paul Johnson was contingent on the Stenglein deal, because otherwise it would be pretty astonishing that they would be prepared to give up a 2nd round pick for him. That softened the deal a lot for us- 1st + 2nd round pick wasn't a great outcome, 1st round pick + Paul Johnson and 1 place lower in the draft was alright.

IMO, Adelaide did okay, getting the quality young south australian + draft pick combo that they probably would have wanted, West Coast did okay, effectively getting Stenglein for our first round pick and a dud, and keeping Butler and Waters off the table as we always intended- Melbourne probably came out slightly behind, but I'm really basing that on the opinion that Johnson is a dud.

Regarding Stinger's ability or benefit to his side, my opinion is pretty much what it was before we got him- he's a good clearance player, a good mark, and obviously has all the +ve leadership and good club man attributes, but is not overly quick or skilled.

I'm a little skeptical about his tagging ability because I don't think he had been playing as a 'pure' tagger for much of the last year he was at Adelaide, I guess we'll see how he goes if Worsfold uses him in that role this year.

With a few similarly grunty types like Selwood and Waters coming through, I don't think he was a huge get for us, just a bit of extra depth in an area we did lack a bit, and hopefully will be a good player on the smaller grounds where pace isnt such an issue.

yeh no doubt the clubs decision to trade the second round pick for stinger was reliant on the trade of johnson for pick 29. johnson was had stagnated and was a good chance of leaving anyway. and as i said before the fact we got morton f/s softened the blow even more.

adelaide did well and it was as good a result as they could have hoped IMO.

Was he out of contract at the end of last season.

If so we did well as he could have walked away and the club would have got nothing, even though he may have ended up in Melbourne so we were not really in a huge position to bargin really.

As long as he went to west coast, he didnt care, so overall we did well I think

Many Eagles supporters were surprised that WCE wanted Stinger as badly as it did and with the price they were prepared to pay to get him.

I think he showed you why with his job on Macca today.

Stinger is fabulous. He kicked Andrew McLeods butt yesterday (although that isn't all that hard at the moment). I am ********ed off that he went back to West Coast. No use beating around the bush. I wish he was still at the Crows.

Where are all those WC supporters that called him a hack who will play in the WAFL and why would they trade anything more than a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick for him ;)

Thats the sort of effort and game you can expect from Stenglein week in week out. He is a bloke who always gives 100% and is as reliable as they come.

Probably the same place as all those adelaide supporters whose brother's, cousin's, sister's best friend had told them that they knew for a fact that Waters and Butler were desperately homesick, and took at a certainty the crows were going to play hard ball for anything less than Sam Butler/Mark Seaby/Beau Waters and first rounder for him? :)

Stenglein had a very good first up game- at subiaco we rarely run tags and I don't think that will change, but he's certainly a handy player to have in the arsenal for away games. This was actually one of the most defensively minded games I've ever seen from Worsfold, not only tagging Mcleod, but also having Banfield do a pretty damn good blanket job on Roo.

In the end, both Adelaide and West Coast got pretty close to what they would have wanted from the Stenglein trade, thanks to melbourne's preparedness to play ball (and take a dud off our hands!). Even before seeing Stinger in action, I was reasonably satisfied with the trade we did.
