Seriously some of you guys make me sick. Yes he probably cost us a goal or 3. But the guy was in there winning contested possession and trying to overcome the Adelaide midfield flood.

Plenty of other regular 22 players had shocking disposal against Adelaide. Many worse than Duffield. Just because other players chose to handball too much and subsequently coughed it up, at least Duff coughed it up a kick down field.

Duffield coughes it up every time he puts the fremantle jumper on. If he plays 1 more game for us it is one too many!!

Not much good when he's deep in the backline though rgauci. The Adelaide players were still within scoring distance a number of times.

I know I've been hard on him the last couple of weeks, but it's not just something that's come out of nowhere. He's out of contract at the end of the year and his AFL career will more than likely be over if he doesn't do something soon. Sure a lot of other players had poor disposal on Sunday, but for a number of them it was out of character. For Duff, it's business as usual.

Come on Rgauci. I think some vigilante action might sort this out.
I'm in.

I think the Duff just needs to think more about his options. It seems to me like he always thinks he has less time to make the decision then he actually does.

If someone would yell out "Duff, you've got 10 metres!" he could settle, look at his options and deliver it lace out.

I'm not saying that sometimes his disposal isn't questionable but if he just focused, settled and didn't always rush things he would be all the better for it.

Maybe He is just trying too hard.

There is no doubt that He has had the skills in the past. His game in the 1st Derby 2006 was stunning and He has never been this bad at Sowfs.

He should play most of every practice game to see if he can get it back together along with all the other MDD's (most dodgey disposals.)

If He does - good
If He doesn't - back to Sowfs.

I'm not sure I entirely agree Rip. He's had two almost full matches in the NAB Cup plus the SA game to show what he's got, and quite frankly, it's been horrible. What about giving someone like Ibbotson a decent run, or Josh Head, or even Chris Smith given that there's a spot available on the list? I think we need to be looking at the makeup of the 22 for round 1, and right now, there's not a snowflakes chance in hell of Duffield being in our best 22 by then.

I don't like to give any of our boys a hard time, but gee he really has played two shockers in a row.

His form hasn't been any better than M Carr's or Dessie's form of the last couple of seasons and they both sure copped their fair share on this board!

I think he should be allowed to play evey practice match. We should give him the opportunity to right himself. He has played good games before.

While we are on the subject of uselessness Mcmanus anyone? He was just as bad as Duff but thankfully got less of the pill.
Anyway if you pull aa freo jumper on your open to everybody's opinions. Plus next 2 weeks count for squat so as long as no more injuries then thats a good finish to the pre season.

Macca at least has the excuse that he's old and it was his first game, so possibly he was rusty. That was Duffield's third attempt. Three strikes and you're out?

Theres no doubt in my mind that he has the skills, he's just lacking confidence. On the other hand I try not to be too critical of Scham as he goes in hard, but his disposal (by foot) is woeful.

I'm hoping both problems will right themselves in the very near future!

An article from Real Footy.

FREMANTLE'S hopes of placing some silverware in its trophy cabinet again have been put on hold after a disappointing 17-point NAB Cup quarter-final loss to Adelaide at AAMI Stadium yesterday.
Against a backdrop of expectations that Mark Harvey is the coach to take Fremantle to the next level, plus a crowd that was far from hostile — and paltry, due to car racing in the city — it was reminiscent of old times when it failed to deliver.
Of course, it is only the pre-season, but like Adelaide, which many have doubted in the forecasts despite another close encounter in last year's finals, this was a competition in which Fremantle needed to prove a point. They didn't.
Adelaide's new-look get-the-ball-moving style and its skills game overwhelmed Fremantle. It was a mixture of the old — Ken McGregor again needing to prove himself and, admirably, Andrew McLeod showing the wizardry that has made him a champion — and the new, especially the inexperienced youngsters in the ruck led by Kurt Tippett and shades of promise from the likes of David McKay, Bryce Campbell and Port Adelaide recruit Brad Symes.
Both sides were close to full strength, and it was an opportunity for some old stagers and new kids to prepare themselves for the main season. But for most part, it was only Adelaide that saw the bigger picture — cementing chances for the main season.
Fremantle began well, but when Adelaide massaged its game plan by adding flexibility, and the players consequently grew in confidence, the Dockers had few answers. There were anomalies, such as Matthew Pavlich kicking into the mark when shooting for goal, and Josh Carr giving no reason to stir the ire in the local fans, but overall the Dockers lacked spark — pre-season comp or not. The inexperienced Paul Duffield showed he has got something.
The fact that Adelaide coach Neil Craig dared to be different — he played McLeod at centre half-forward in the last quarter and used new captain Simon Goodwin up forward until injured — was a reminder that judging teams on last season's form can be dangerous.
McGregor, who easily could have quit the club amid disappointment late last season, perhaps best captured the spirit of these revived Crows by kicking a super goal plus three regular goals and offering a reminder of why he really is a valuable player.
Fremantle kicked five of the opening seven goals of the match, including "supers", but ultimately succumbed to the pressure. It kicked the last three goals of the game to make the score respectable, but that was about all.
Again, this is pre-season, and mistakes are made, but given the fact so many Dockers were expected to take the club to another step, overall, they were disappointing. Roger Hayden was magnificent in defence — especially in the first half — Mark Johnson displayed some of his old class, and new kid Rhys Palmer suggested he is a quality player of the future, but this wasn't the Fremantle many continue to expect in '08.
New forward James Sellar, 19 next month, didn't quite match his quality game against Collingwood in Dubai, but when he took a strong mark and kicked a goal deep in the left pocket by the boundary, it was a promising sign this Adelaide squad is different.

How likely is he to have a starting place on our team?

I wouldn't have thought it was very likely come round 1...Though if he is there, the question is then who's potential place is he taking.

The biggest problem we`ve had, and continue to have is getting the 1st possession. ie. clearances

Without Hase this year we need ball winners so although his disposal was shocking, atleast The Duffman is getting in there and getting a few possessions.

As already mentioned, no-ones disposal was good in Adelaide and I think he needs another chance this week to show the skills we`ve seen from him in 2006 and try to cement a spot for round one.

I`m sure Harvey and co would have appreciated his workrate and we need fringe players like Duffman to put pressure on for spots in the 22.

Surely Duffman won't play round one.

I'll be surprised if he is named in the 25, he's miles down the batting order IMO.

I was listening on the radio, and the commentary team there were really talking up Duffield like he was in our best? Are his shockers just overwriting his efforts?
