Ok I'm sick and tired of the over-rating on here of some of our young players.
For one I'm talking about Tom Swift, Honestly I don't see it and it seems some on here are already putting him in superstar category. Bullshit, so far he has done jack f**king shit at AFL level to be considered even a B grade player.

Nic Nat- Needs to get the ball more and fitness is a problem.
M Brown- Not in the team, enough said
S Selwood- Ok, but nothing special
B Sheppard- has ability but yet to crack open a game.
L Shuey- Injuries have hampered him.
W Schofield- On performance this year, his the best out of the lot.
E Mac- Ok, but hasn't had a real impact on a game yet.
C Masten- has been disappointing this year before injury.
Paddy- nothing special
B Ebert- gets the ball a lot but can't use it.

Ok that's about it so far and I don't think from what I've seen, none of them will be superstars of this game so I'm wondering why all this talk about how good they are- how about we actually watch the game and when they actually play a few really good games then we can call them potential superstars, but not right now.

Todays loss wasn't a result of our young players.
Yeah I'm talking about the whole year to date.
We don't seem to have nothing that's really been impressive in our young players.

But I'm not talking about our senior players and today's loss.
I'm talking about the over-rating of our youth which I think is unnecessary at this stage, especially referring to Tom Swift.

Nic Nat- Needs to get the ball more and fitness is a problem.Agree but coming along nicely
B Sheppard- has ability but yet to crack open a game.Only played 3 games
W Schofield- On performance this year, his the best out of the lot. Agree
E Mac- Ok, but hasn't had a real impact on a game yet. He's a CHB/FB how much impact is he supposed to have? Been solid
C Masten- has been disappointing this year before injury. Agree but did do ok in the derby
B Ebert- gets the ball a lot but can't use it. Agree still unknown at this point
Swift might not be doing much atm but he is trying to take the game on unlike all of our other midfielders. He's definitely not as quick as others make out. Just average pace. Still needs more game time to learn.

agree, sky is falling.

liked this one:

Agree. Swift was very poor today. His lack of awareness is Embleyesque.

I dont think theyre overrated. In fact i think we tend to over-exagerrate our expectations of them on this board. I.E. Ebert is routinely crucified, yet watching today, despite his lack of pace and at times stuffing up his kicks, he has a bit of poise and hardness at the ball.

Like i said, overrate? No. We don't think think they're currently Gary Abletts, nor make them out to be. As a whole i think we have fairly high expectations of our young kids, which is generally a good thing.

Our deficiency isnt in how the kids are playing, theyre probably playing how they always have. Its the recruiting which seems to be the problem for mine. Sure, hard inside types are needed, but you also need pacy, explosive outside mids aswell, without them, we're expecting too much on field from our current mids who arent suited to those positions.

You are right. There is a lot of self deception going on. The list is very ordinary. NicNat will be a superstar with the right coaching. Shuey is a very good player when he can actually get on the park, not often yet. Swift, I don't know, a long way to go, and a lot to learn. Needs to get very, very serious about the weights and build up his body. Desperate inbalance in the group, seriously need pacy outside players. A shocking, shoot yourself in the foot over reaction about indigenous players after Sampi. Sheppard will be a good player but need more. Arrogant club breaking up.

The one thing i will give Swift credit for today is that unlike his team mates he was always looking to take the game on and try to create and do something. Too many of his team mates just look flat footed and look to just move the ball on straight away but Swift's trying to make something happen.

The signs are there, with a bit more fitness and as he gets the tempo of AFL he can yet still be a good player for us.

Mcginnity, i believe really needs to play in the forward line. Like max rooke for geelong.
His disposal kills us a fair bit backwards of centre.
He's the type of player wee need to stop teams rebounding so quickly eg. today.
He will never give up chasing. I would have liked to have seen him put on gibbs/walker today.

That was the role Hams was doing well for us this year until he went back to the rookie list. Can play the same role as McGinitty and can actually hit a target by foot.

Nic Nat- Needs to get the ball more and fitness is a problem. Agreed but he is coming along nicely
M Brown- Not in the team, enough said Not sure what is going on here? Perhaps he has told Woosha that he does not want to play in the backline and he is not good enough in the forward line just yet???
S Selwood- Ok, but nothing special Solid young player. Has potential needs to gain more experience.
B Sheppard- has ability but yet to crack open a game. Fair go! Its his third game and he has done nothing wrong todate.
L Shuey- Injuries have hampered him. True! How is that his problem? He has serious talent.
W Schofield- On performance this year, his the best out of the lot. Has been very good this year. Amazing how some players can only be judged after three or four years in the system.
E Mac- Ok, but hasn't had a real impact on a game yet.
C Masten- has been disappointing this year before injury. Agreed! I think that he could be a real asset for WCE but at the same time I perceive him to lack leadership and is too self focused.
Paddy- nothing special True but nobody on here has really gone over board about him, most people view him as a defender/tagger etc.
B Ebert- gets the ball a lot but can't use it. He is being played in a different role this year and whilst his dsposal is average he has improved lots in the last 12 months and will be a very good player for us for a long time

Tom Swift - I like his creativity and his ability to find space. What I do not like is that he is very slow in his decisions making and finding the right option. I am still willing to provide him with a benefit of doubt given how much time he has spent injured and on the sidelines.

I would much rather persist with the above players than with Nicoski and Embley.

I think the forward + defence is coming along well and our ruck combo is pretty damn good. Where we fall away is in the midfield as we haven't got the class or the skills to take the game on and get rewarded for our effort. It's going to take time for our midfield to get upto AFL standard and we can do nothing but be patient. Hopefully the club will roll the dice and give chances to other young midfielders this season.

Bad recruitment has left us with the slowest west coast side I have ever seen......not one midfielder we have has any leg speed....

we are slower than richmond......

in fact we are slower than swans.....

bad recruitment is to blame...masten was and is bad choice and so is swift (what an oxy that is)

we are far too top heavy

ok solutions....trade kerr...get some value for him......we need guys that can run and bounce and run the lines and finish

Karakour would be good bargain pick up......in fact our anti indigenous recruitment strategy hasn't paid off.........and its quite obvious we have state full of quick indigenous players yet they somehow end up all over east....why is that......

we recruit white junk players........Im sorry but its plainly evident and quite deliberate strategy

Trade Hansen and Mckinely...again we need 2 quick small forwards....keep Wilkes.....hes a very serviceable players.....delist or trade embley (someone might take him)....we need to rebuild now.....

Niccoski...oh dear ...what in the hell is wrong with his brain.....

Priddis......hmmm.....keep him......masten keep and get hurn to drop 10 kg and make him a third or 4th midfielder

lynch .......hmm keep him as back up....brown needs to play to get better.......

season is gone and we know they know it so lets just rebuild from this week....I dont care if we get beat......I want to see players take the game on.....

pick weedon.....lets see if he can play.....swift needs time yes but hes not even a great kick at all.....we need to build a side that can win 10 games at subi and snatch 3 or 4 on the road......that is done with leg speed and finishers

the back line is ok it ttries darn hard...the fwd line is ok considering the way the ball comes in......the midfeild needs leg speed....line breakers and we can go fwd....trade Kerr should be the mission

On a separate note thought there was a blonde kid playing at half time at Auskick for the "WCE" who absolutely dominated. I think we need to find out who he is an stash him away :).

CK I agree with your post. Once we improve the quality, some of this may come with experience, of our receivers we will see a significant improvement.

Finally one player that is no longer young but has been very impressive this year (and a lot more than I thought capable is Rosa.

First time i saw the boys live this season today.

There is no where near enough talking and blocking going on.

Don't want swift to change his game style one bit. As many have said, he takes the game on. Lynch, Nico, Embers and A.Selwood are really letting us down.

We need a fp goal sneak badly.

I've been banging on about this point all season. The lack of blocking/shepherding from most of our players is disgraceful. They are happy to give the ball off without protecting the ball carrier who in turn doesn't have the extra time or space to make a good decision.

The players need to be sat down and shown a few Daniel Chick videos. ;):thumbsu:
