Re: Stuart Dew, looking sharp!

I read/heard somewhere last week that the Hawks picked him up primarily for his kick-out abilities. And fair enough I guess. Only .... I don't suppose anyone (Toots??) has vision of That kickout against Brisbane a few years ago? Would put the Fear O'God into Hawthorn!

No not doing kick -outs, just recruited his general field kicking - aimed to be used at half back / wing and using his good disposal to hit forward targets.

Re: Stuart Dew, looking sharp!

Sorry can't help with that one. It was a real clanger. He is one of the best passers of the football we've had a Port, though. He seems a pretty decent bloke and I hope he goes well.

Re: Stuart Dew, looking sharp!

I enjoyed reading a few of these 'experts' post's this morning with my brekkie!

Go Dew, one for the Fatboys!...:thumbsu:

Re: Stuart Dew, looking sharp!

the big fella looked good yesterday - clean hands , that raking left foot, used his barge to advantage and kicked a couple of goals.:thumbsu:

Can't complain.

was f***in fantastic. When they drafted him I thought he was passed it. But he showed that he has plenty to give. Couple goals and best of all the long long left foot. WOW.

Re: Stuart Dew, looking sharp!

Both goals were class. Loved the way the his "93kg frame" didn't move when Neitz bumped him. Haha.

Geez he still looks like a lard doesn't he?

He is going to be in huge strife if he gets a niggle and can't train.

Good game though. :thumbsu:

Re: Stuart Dew, looking sharp!

Was at the game and sat two rows back, just near the interchange bench...up close he still definately fills out his guernsey, much more than any other player, but he seemed to move well around the ground and I personally was very happy with his output.

Neitz thought he was going to run through Dew, like he did Luke McCabe a few years back...Dew would have none of it...

Re: Stuart Dew, looking sharp!

Didn't see the game but sounds like he played pretty well. The biggest problem with Dew is not his weight but his attitude. The last couple of years at Port I think he got lazy. If a player marked the ball 40 metres out and was lining up for goal he would stand behing the 50 and scream for the ball. If he didn't get it he would start hurling abuse at the player lining up for goal - he wanted a lot of cheap possessions. Maybe a year off and a change of scenery has rectified that, but it is something to be wary of by those in charge at Hawthorn.

Dew seems to have that passion for the game back! He has put in a lot of hard work and looks anything but lazy!!!

No doubt something to keep in mind, however he really looked like a bloke who was excited to be back...even bumping opponents was not something I recall him doing at Port much. Maybe a change of scenery and some younger team mates will make all the difference.

At the risk of putting you offside...there was a fair bit of tension floating around your club near the end of Dew's career...numerous years of missed GF's despite minor premierships, then Choco's over the top celebrations, and then a GF hangover. Might have been an easy place to lose your way in.

Regardless, will be an interesting character to watch this year.
