The change isn't going to do bugger all for reducing congestion check the math:

120/21/4 = 1.4 rotations per player per quarter
90/22/4 = 1.0 rotations per player per quarter
I don't think it's that simple because not all players rotate the same amount and the mix of types of players selected may change given this change.

That's a decrease of over a quarter, good Sir/Madam. Which is quite a fair amount.

Don't disagree.

Which is why I hope this reduction is a first step in bringing the crazy interchange numbers under control.

Would like to see the 2016 number halved in the years to come.

Although the bleating from coaches about that possibility will be beyond belief.

Shows that the clubs will have the same numbers of rotations as they do now to manage their players, so mids etc will have the same amount of rest they have now and the game will be just as congested as it is now

If you hold several other variables constant. Which won't happen.

I really hope not. If he can't get to contests now, with more breaks on the bench, how will he in future?
Not a noted contested mark player either so he wouldn't be that effective resting forward.

Same goes with moth of the kids, hopefully Stanley and Blitz can have a full pre season they will be amazing with this rule
That was my first thought. Stanley and Blitz around the ground. Phwoar!

I'm not sure congestion will get worse. I think it could reduce congestion as guys will have to be smart with their running patterns and rest appropriately. Not just run till you can't and then get a breather on the bench. Guys will have to recover better on the ground. I suspect we will see more of midfielders resting forward which will reduce the amount of forwards flooding up to the midfield as they need to rest. Well, thats one way it could go.

Agree that the 3rd kpp is screwed if he can't ruck.
So the more versatile a player is, the more chance he has of getting a game? ie a forward who can spell a midfielder or a midfielder who can rest in the backline, etc?

the emphasis to bulk up and become a bigger/heavier body will be right back on the table again.
Caddy will now be in his element, as too Jansen and Kersten

The teams that went the endurance route and shed kilo's will be hit the hardest (I'm looking right at you Dawks :))
Didn't our guys all do that over the summer, too, Bobby?

I don't think it'll slow the game down too much, I'd imagine the game will be quicker near the end than it is now because there will be more loose players and more one on ones, plus due to fatigue more turnovers, which means more space and more end to end footy. How that'll help or hinder GHS is anyone's guess though I do know one thing for sure having fast players with petrol in the tank late in games will be more crucial than ever so I think GHS shouldn't expect a lot of time on the ground in last quarters next year (if he's playing midfield), who knows they might just plonk him deep in attack late in matches.
That's probably the only solution for young George, BC. He tends to only play 3/4 of a game anyway.

Really hard to know, you would think that we would benefit for having less rotations but until we know how many times certain players get changed for and time length just a guess for us all

Might help keep Hawkins in the goal square.... where he belongs

I'll save you all 50c - I called 1800-CANT-KICK and it's not him.
I am guessing you did not see him play any EDFL or NTFL footy of late...

Loose 30 rotations is offset by adding a extra player means status quo is going to be maintained though

If all players played the same positions. But if that 4th bench spot is given to a mid and the rucks can't rest as much, to me that means the ruck/talls will fatigue more IMO.

For example.

I think we should all settle and take a deep breath. 90 is still a reasonable number of interchanges - plus there will be effectively an extra player to rotate those 90 through. Personally I don't see a drastic change in set up.

It just may see clubs in the pre-season look to have their players gain greater endurance than perhaps before.

Sorry to smash both your bubbles but as someone else implied. Its actually a 29% decrease in the number of changes. And those changes will not be spread evenly, they will undoubtedly fall more to the midfielders. So the number of changes will no doubt be higher for KPP. This will undoubtedly lead to changes in tactics from teams.

Some may abandon the forward press. Others may try to move further in that direction to exhaust the other team (A strategy that may prove to be even more effective.) I imagine it will vary from from team to team based on the strengths of the players at their disposal. The old rule of player not getting smaller will definitely become more important again.

In terms of our own strategy, we may choose to play with less of a forward press, and more of the fast turn over from defense game. Whilst this is also taxing on players. It fits what I feel will probably be the strengths of our list next year which will hopefully be improved at clearances, and then very strong with contested marks and plenty of players capable of breaking lines. Gorilla forwards like Hawkins, will be possible in teams like ours with the mobility of Blicavs, and 2 of Stanley, Clark, and Vardy taking contested marks around the ground. But impossible for teams like the doggies who are smaller.
