Suckling and Franklin play on when they kick long set shots

Siren had gone on the Hawkins kick.
Regardless, please post the rule that says that kicks after the siren are different.
play on is play on is play on

Siren went just after the Hawkins kick . You are allowed to play on before the siren , probably why it was not called as it made no difference to the end result.

Go back to this game and listen to the UMP when Griffin was having his shot AFTER the siren. He was told to come straight in.

Siren wen as Hawkins was running in to kick it.
Again, the rules don't differentiate as to wether or not it's during the quarter or after the siren. If so please post the rule here. But you can't can you?
Play on is play on.
The whole "play" on thing is designed for when the quarter is still on. Hence why it's called "play on"o_O

Edit: here the is when the umpire is blowing the whistle to signal full time. BEFORE HAWKINS KICKS.
Not that it makes a difference. Just not sure why you insist otherwise, it's clear as day

I reckon Freo stuffed up by having so many players on the mark. Harder for the umpire to tell EXACTLY where the mark was after he had backed away.

If there was only one guy there standing the mark, maybe even taking a sneaky shuffle to their left as suckers came in, it would have been so much more apparent....

I agree with the OP.
It's a flippin' disgrace that Buddy Franklin and Matt Suckling are given special exemptions from the rules.
The should be called play on every time they step off their line from now on. :):thumbsu:

Fixed your post!

I wonder how many fifty metre penalties will get paid against players standing still, 5.1m away from the kicker as they swoop towards them.

The umpire should be able to determine a distance that a player is allowed to stand beside the mark, outside the 5m protected zone, just like a snap shot on goal. As long as that player "manning the arc" doesn't move it will be interesting to see what an umpire does when a natural arc gets closer than 5m.
