Suns 2006-07 vs Celtics 2007-8

As an interesting exercise i thought itd be good to compare 2 teams that have in recent times been arguably the most exciting teams. Both sides have the overall package, one seemed to transform basketball into a running, fast break side; the other a team that this season is taking all before them.

Why the Suns? Well the Jordan Bulls and Shaq/Kobe Lakers are too boring.

The Suns had a 61-21 mark in 06-07 but it was the way they played ball that gives them browney points here. Nash and to a certain extent Diaw managing the ball, Marion doing it all and Stoudemire returning successfully from knee surgery there seemed to be no stopping them. They were however halted by the champions spurs.

Boston fan have had jack all to celebrate until now. The lottery and draft day saw another franchise centre leave their grasps (Oden) causing many Boston fans to turn away in disgust. How could such a storied franchise with a leprechaun on its logo endure this? Well how does Ray Allen, the man with the sweetest stroke in history, and Kevin Garnett sound? Within the space of a month or so players saw success on the wall and wanted to ride on the big 3's coat tails - Pollard, House and Posey.

Who would win?

So, rosters as follows:

F: Marion Pierce
F: K Thomas Garnett
C: Stoudemire Perkins
G: Bell Allen
G: Nash Rondo
BENCH

T Thomas House
Diaw Davis
Grant Pollard
Barbosa Posey
J Jones T Allen
Burke
Tskitishvili

Vote now!

If you take those rosters player-by-player, Phoenix wins.

I think it would depend on what time of year it was and previous schedules.

Eg; had Boston played the night before, Phoenix could run the crap out of the already tired (and old) Celtics.

If it was the 10th game of the year and neither team played the day before, then you'd expect it to be a great contest.

In playoffs the bench is reduced so i would give the edge to the Celtics

Plus the suns cant play an ounce of defence and Rays 3 point shooting would kill them in the half court game.Garnett would own Amare down low

Marion isnt a factor because he disappears in the play-offs/big games

Hehe. So true.

Waiting for Nip/Tucks comeback for that one...

Is this even a legitimate thread? We have one side who has got 61 wins and we have one side who has won 20 games without playing a decent team???

All you Suns bashers obviously didn't see their defensive effort on the Spurs today or on Utah.

ha,without either their starting PG(parker) or Center(elson)

great job:thumbsu:

Loss of STAT and Diaw in Game 5 last year is far greater than that. Elson is nothing more than a back up.....Bonner is better than him. Parker shouldn't be playing kinky sex games with other women.

I love how the Spurs fans never give credit where credit is due.

Leandro Barbosa, Steve Nash, Grant Hill, Raja Bell thread.

 hahahaa

hill's strengths arent his 3 pt shooting, its everywhere else.

ray allen has it over those guys, but not by a big margin. hes a proven 3 pt shooter, but that doesnt mean he wont go missing like any other player come playoff time.

hmmm, I think you need to read my whole post and understand the game of basketball a little

here it is again

"Rays 3 point shooting would kill them in the half court game.Garnett would own Amare down low"

notice I said half-court game...

The play-offs are primarily a slow down, lock it up,half court game relying on dominant post players and outside shooters, not a fast break orientated offence, that my friend is why the suns consistently fail in the play-offs.year after year after year.you can make excuses about Horry and crossing lines and breaking rules, and the sun not coming up in Arizona but the reality is the same.you are play-off failures:D

And guess what!!!this year it will be worse because you traded your only good low post defender Kurt Thomas to the Sonics along with the 2008 and 2010 first round pick for cash:confused::confused:

this is one of the worse trades ive ever seen and it has gone pretty much unnoticed but your future is very bleak:)

He's the recruit of the year to date.

LOL

AHM aren't u forgetting Kevin 'leading All-star vote getter' and MVP candidate' Garnett ???

Most of Boston's new found success can be attributed to the force that is KG ...

I'd take him over Nash, Amare or Marion or any other player on PHX's roster in a heartbeat :)

Kevin Garnett, man He's loved the move to the East, and being a Celtic, and it shows :)

easier to dominate in the LEast! ;)

The East has produced the 3 greatest players ever (Larry Bird, MJ and Russell) and two of the greatest, most strongest dynasites (Russell's Celtics and MJ's Bulls) ever seen in the history in the NBA ..

BTW We have a perfect record against all West teams as well (admittedly they were at home though) but my main point still stands.

Surely KG is easily the best recruit of the year, Grant Hill's okay, but he's now super-god like Garnett, plus he has Jesus as well in Ray Ray :)

Well first of all Pheonix didnt finish 1st last season in the home and away season. In which looks like Boston will, surely they are better than the suns considering some teams this year who did well last year have the same teams are doing worse than boston.

Future very bleak?????

Playoffs failure?

2004-2005 we go from a 30 win team to a 60 win team and lose in the conference finals.

2005-2006 We're missing STAT the whole year and still make the conference finals.

2006-2007 Spurs got lucky in a very even series. Phoenix came of age in that series and will hold them in excellent stead come the playoffs this year.

I agree it was disappointing to lose Thomas but they'll still give the West a damn hot shake, especially if they obtain the Number 1 seed which I think they have an excellent chance of doing.

That's fine when you mention a half court game, but Phoenix has some tricks as well. Cheez you seem to think we've played above ourselves for four years!!!!!!!

Besides I'm surely not alone in thinking the Spurs are the most boring team to play the game. They're pretty quick to get into the refs as well when things are not going their way.
