Welcome to disagree.

I genuinely hope he makes a liar out of me, and that his pain threshold isn't as low as it appears and I'm talking complete shit. Would love nothing more.

I want the guy to be a star, but he won't be if he's not resilient.

Brendan Bolton has even raised the issue publicly. Gotta be something in it.

Rest assured , he will be a star. In my view, he's there already...

The question of pain thresholds is interesting. Yes, he's been hurt on a couple of occasions, but they were pretty significant incidents. I'm not sure I'd enjoy being slingshot into a head clash, or crunched in the small of the back with a knee backed by 100 kg. I reckon the fact that on all of the occasions he's been hurt, he managed to come back and play on, shows he may have a higher pain threshold than he's being given credit for...

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion. I just think we need to look at each incident on its merits and remember this a 19 year old boy.

Chat with Bruce Doull? Are you sure it was him coach?
We did most of the talking. He mostly nodded, smiled and gave minimal response. "Yes" "no" "Thank you" that sort of thing. But the fact that he would even stop and acknowledge us was pretty special...

I went to the game on Saturday. First time I've been in over 20 years. Most of you know I have a slight issue with crowds. But I promised my son I'd go with him to a game, and it was a great night...

Had a very brief encounter and chat with Bruce Doull after the game. What an amazing gentleman he is...

On the game: obviously that third quarter was disappointing, but you can't be unhappy when you look around at these kids. We have a terrific crop of youngsters and a very bright future. Personally, I'm loving what the club is doing, and the young players are exciting and heartening to watch...

Hey TheCoach16 haven't seen you for a while.

Welcome back.

Well Terry Wallace, ( yeh yeh I know ) gave us a big tick yesterday, said Carlton where very very organised at times, and putting 4 quarters together will come, was impressed.
OK thanks Tezzla , not often he pays us compliments...
You've now got me questioning our path...

The Gibbs stuff is nothing!! You want to rile up TheCoach16 just tell him Dustin Martin is the best player in the comp! :p:D.
The language in one of our PM's is a thing of beauty!!!

We should've done it. He's gotta go !...

No no ! I jest, of course...

I'm still around Gethelred, I'm just more of a reader than a writer these days...

If they are going to prevent you doing this at least they could offer you a job.

they advertise technical and vid jobs in dec, usually a 8-9 month contract.

or at least they used to. i thought about applying for a job managing the replay servers a few years back but didn't want to jump for a short period.

Long weekend has thrown off my schedule, but here's my thoughts on this round.

Our backline was exposed against the quick transition of the Suns. Rowe worked hard, but playing one-on-one against one of the best young key forwards in the comp when he's getting top-shelf delivery was always going to be a very tough ask. Their forward line seemed quite bare at times, which I'm sure was deliberate, as it meant that Marchbank, Plowman and Macreadie were often caught too high up the ground to be able to lend any support down back. I think all four talls played alright individually, but we lost our ability to zone off due to structural issues. Doc and Simmo have been consistent this year, nothing more to add on these two. Williamson looks at home, and has a beautiful kick on him. Keep putting the ball in his hands please, lads, he'll be a quality player for us in no time at all.

I know Cripps has had a limited preseason, but I'd still like to see a bit more from him sometime soon. Laid a few crunching tackles, but let opponents off the hook a few times too. Murphy seemingly back to his best, Gibbs working hard, Curnow applying pressure - once the supporting players start coming on we've got a good framework in place. Kreuzer struggled in the ruck, but as we've come to expect his follow-up work goes some way towards alleviating that. Definitely keen to get Phillips back on the park to see how our mids can benefit from some more genuine, quality tap-work. I've got a lot of faith in SPS, and while he was quieter this week (especially after half time) that's to be expected for a first-year player. Loved Fisher's game, the kid is definitely ready for AFL. He may need the odd break, but he got in and under, stuck a few great tackles, and looked composed with ball in hand. That goal was brilliant, but his efforts to set up Pickett's goal was even better for me.

On Pickett, he certainly seems to get himself in the right places, but needs to be cleaner with his finishing. Two relatively easy chances went begging in the first quarter - a dribbler that went the wrong way (when he had time to steady and straighten up) and a snap while running into goal, both under little to no pressure. Not sure he's a small forward to be honest, think he might need to spend more time on a wing or even down back? Six goals between Levi and Jack is a good return - both seem to benefit from an early goal to boost their confidence. Hope to see more 2+ goal games from both of these guys as the year progresses. Weitering continues to look threatening up forward, hopefully we'll see a breakout game for him soon with 4+ goals. A lean couple of weeks for Wright, but he does a lot of good team things in the forward 50. I didn't notice Daisy as much this game, but he continues to work hard to provide an option even if it doesn't always pay off. Still a bit iffy by foot, so would like to see him make way sooner rather than later. Loved the big pack mark from Charlie, and I still think he should be played out of the goal square as much as possible this year. His pressure work when up the ground has left a bit to be desired, but deep in our 50 he can have a more tangible impact on the contest and hopefully build some confidence. Made a few good leads that didn't see the ball come to him, but did create space for other guys to drop into - so hopefully that's a sign that our forward line is becoming a bit more nuanced.

Simon White. Can't quite tell you where he played, because I didn't notice much of him. Stats show he didn't get much of the footy, but wasn't wasteful when he got it. One score involvement, one rebound 50, three tackles, one 1%er. I'm standing by my thoughts from last week that this was never going to be a good match-up for him, and as such it would be unfair to criticise him too heavily.

Lost this one on a lack of leg-speed and some inaccurate work in front of goal. Had every chance to build a solid lead in the first half but couldn't convert. Would have liked to see a loose man down back to lend support to Rowe on Lynch, and would have liked to see a bit more off-the-ball work on guys like Saad and Harbrow to limit how easily they could find space.

An in-form Port Adelaide this week, so once again I'm calling for a bit of extra pace and pressure in the side. Running out of blokes to drop, which is fantastic, so unfortunately it's going to be back to the usual suspects who have retained their spots so far. They may not have performed poorly enough to warrant being dropped, but we've got a quality small forward in great form (7 goals in two games) and another first-year mid coming off two great VFL performances (including Best On honours this weekend) - if the kids are playing well, reward them.

OUT: White, Thomas
IN: Gallucci, Polson

FB: Macreadie, Rowe, Marchbank
HB: Simpson, Plowman, Docherty
C: Williamson, Gibbs, E. Curnow
R: Kreuzer, Cripps, Murphy
HF: Silvagni, Casboult, Wright
FF: Gallucci, Weitering, C. Curnow
I/C: SPS, Fisher, Polson, Pickett

While you're kinder on Thomas and White then I would be - Thomas' disposal is a huge liability given he doesn't get much of the ball in the first place and White, if he was on Matera, did little to curb him and if he wasn't had next to no impact anyway - but agree with your changes. Much rather give Galluci a go then someone like KJ.

dont know but i reckon he is not the middle as much as last year. i think Bolton should keep him in the middle for 90% of the game. we need his clearances work and contested nature because it opens the game up.

Finally got to see the game. Went as I thought it would.

The difference? Our players were exhausted after our win against the Bombers. GC had a same day breeze of a game against the Hawks. Of course they were going to run over the top of us. We had our chances to get out to a lead and we blew it. We really needed to put them under the pump early. It may have caused a recurrence of the DILIGAF Suns from the opening rounds. Instead, when they sensed that there was a game to be won they used their fresher legs to win the game.

A learning experience to be sure. Not too concerned about the result. It's not about the Ws and Ls this year. The kids would have learned a lot about what it takes to back it up the following week. Get those lessons in early.

Tackle of the week .........

There's the speed!

Love that he almost had it twice before he had to chase, means he is getting to the right spots.

Third effort was the tackle, kid has a real go, gotta like that.
