Half of them were moved on because they were no longer wanted so gets a bit exaggerated. Maybe the issue was the selections in the first place.
100% it was a mix of the selections and development. The damning part is even with the % reversed it would still be the worst failure rate in the league

I don't know, GWS numbers look similar, haha. And they did have success.

Yeah, probably both selections and development. Also it would probably be much easier for draftees to come into the team playing finals, with successful culture.

Damning from AFfL.com

Of Gold Coast's 10 top-10 picks between 2013 and 2018, a staggering seven have ended up at rival clubs, underlining the club's much-publicised struggle to keep hold of its top talent. The task for the Suns now is to convince their more recent top picks to stay;
This is something the club knew was an issue and has made great strides to correct. Since then we have hit on a lot more picks and developed players to a much higher rate. You can criticise Dew and co on a lot of things but the development side of players and the change in club culture has been something that has drastically gotten better under his reign. This article is just trying to generate clicks by shitting on something that no longer happens. We get buy in from players and we constantly see improvements in said players.

It continues… And in most alternative situations provided, Suns would have been able to match the bids anyway with the picks we had at some point—obviously we just kept trading back and back and back because the system allowed us to.

And we’d been trading into the future for some time. This article acts like we just had our natural first and second round picks, when we had far more than that—even before the Pick 4 trade.

Cochrane was good yesterday on SEN. He mentioned the rule that if we are top team in 2 years, we are allowed to match only 1 bid in first round. So, the rule does exist :). Interestingly, none of these critical articles mention it. It's a significant limitation.

It's amazing how uninformed the AFL media are. If that was my job, I'd know every part of the system, but the majority like cornes, barret, McClure have no actual idea.

I doubt they even know the difference between the northern academies and the nga and the exploitation that was happening at the nga's (ie. Club finds a loophole where the whitest looking kid, that played footy his whole life gets signed to a clubs nga a few months before the draft when he starts performing well in the coates league).

North Melbourne tried it this year with Riley Sanders. At the last minute the controversial Tasmanian aboriginal center approved his aboriginal indigenous heritage

Here is Cochrane
“The truth of the matter is the system sorts itself out,” Cochrane continued.

“Because if you are to believe all the spruiking at the moment, the Gold Coast Suns apparently are only one or two years away from being a powerhouse club

“So let’s say at the end of the 2025 season, we finish top four, we’ve got probably five or six kids in the academy that year. But here’s the truth, we only get one pick in the top 18 that year. If we’re in the top four, we’re reduced to one pick.

“We’ll produce three, four or five other kids that will probably end up at another club. So as success arrives with academy choices, ultimately that does get shared around if you study the rules.

Yeah, I'm not sure why North aren't getting more publicity over this.
They used Riley Sanders indigenous heritage to strong arm the AFL into letting them pre list him.
They had no impact on his junior career or his development.
But Gold Coast have 4 players who have been in the Suns Academy since they were 12.
No, we have to stop this, and take away the academy.

It backfired on them anyway because the afl didn’t allow them to bid on him until after pick 40 anyway so allowed bulldogs to get him at pick 6

Grigg "exited by the young talent"
New Assistant Coach Shaun Grigg addresses the media following the first session of pre-season Week 2.

I love how right from the start these guys Dimma,Grigg and even Rance have talked about the club “we” and “us” as if they’ve been here for a long time

I can’t wait to play to our strengths
What are our strengths beside contest? We don't have the fastest midfield, haha. Quick re-bound also looks suspicious regarding personnel. And our forward line is not famous for pressure.

We are the worst team in disposal efficiency and often crumble under opposition pressure.

Saying all that, I am looking very much for a new style generated by unshackled, confident players playing to their strengths.
