Mayor Tate wants Lions at Carrara, transfer of stadium ownership to Council, expand stadium, Suns would welcome it.
Mayor Tom Tate wants the state government to sign over control of Carrara Stadium to the Gold Coast City Council and nominate it as the temporary home of the Brisbane Lions and cricket tests.

In a spectacular intervention into the growing rift between the state and Brisbane City Council over the controversial RNA Showgrounds redevelopment, Mr Tate has told both sides to look to the Gold Coast for a solution.

Mr Tate says the council would spend $50m to upgrade and expand Heritage Bank Stadium and create an extra 6000 seats if the state signed over control.
“What we have there (at Carrara) is a beautiful asset and my attitude is this: to accommodate all the requirements as they knock down the Gabba, they should do a deal with us, transfer ownership of Heritage Bank Stadium,” he said.

“We will spend $50 million closing it off which will attain another 6000 seats, that will take us up to around 40,000. And then that’s a great plan B in case something happens with the Gabba, we can run everything from there (Carrara). It’s a good safety net.

“In the interim we can do all the cricket there, and we can do a lot of additional AFL there, that’s a good size.”
Sources within the Suns organisation said the team was keen to welcome the Brisbane Lions and Heat teams to their stadium.

What are our strengths beside contest? We don't have the fastest midfield, haha. Quick re-bound also looks suspicious regarding personnel. And our forward line is not famous for pressure.

We are the worst team in disposal efficiency and often crumble under opposition pressure.

Saying all that, I am looking very much for a new style generated by unshackled, confident players playing to their strengths.

We are only the worst team in disposal efficiency because we play contest to contest and any metres gained is good. We won games when we hit leading targets instead of bombing it forward and trying to bring the ball to ground.

We actually could move the ball out pretty well off half back it’s just the final ball into the 50 is where we where lacking.

With an offensive game plan, the boys will be training all preseason to be kicking the footy while running, improving their weighted kicks and Stab passing to the leading target. Forwards will actually be rewarded for coming at the footy instead of doing 1 dummy lead then turning back to sit at Casboults Feet.

You’ll have the wingers and flankers hungry for the footy, which will create an overlap and gives our main 4 midfielders time to catch their breathe and set up incase of a counter attack.

The last few years when we leave the back 50 it’s usually Ellis, Anderson or Touk doing little small safe leads mostly wide onto the wing, we become too predictable and the next kick if we get it is CHF where they already set up the play.

We play quick in the corridor with fast hands and hard runners we’ll get the ball to King and Luko for them to have a 30 second shot for everyone to rest.

We have the fitness for this style, we have a massive squad to rotate players. If Dimma does something like this I’ll be excited. Defend this, defend that, we need to start kicking goals

Let's see. I like your plan and optimism. Did you talk to Dimma? Haha. No doubt we need to improve our offensive output.

I foresee a lot of turnovers with a new game plan. I mean a lot, considering our skills, haha.

So, who will take game on from defence? Jeffrey, Budarick, Powell, Andrrew, Johnston, Uwland? Most of them still need to prove themselves.

I am not so sure about our kicking in general (with several rare exceptions) and when the opposition applies pressure we struggle.

We really don't have wings. Ellis could be on last leg. Possibly Powell if Dimma moves him there, Weller if he recovers. Otherwise, it's Atkins, Anderson, Ainsworth.

Im all for playing fast attacking football but our footskills are shit, along with a lot of players don't have the vision or the ability to slow down a sec and hit targets inside 50.
I don't think that will magically change in one off season.
Plus if Richmond under Dimma are anything to go buy, it will be get the ball forward at any cost and trap it in. Not use footskills to slice teams open.

I doubt we will just copy Richmond style under Dimma. It has to be modified to our list, our strengths hopefully with some new aspects as game evolves all the time.

With our tall forward lineup, I don't think we can trap ball there.

Grigg "exited by the young talent"
New Assistant Coach Shaun Grigg addresses the media following the first session of pre-season Week 2.

I love how right from the start these guys Dimma,Grigg and even Rance have talked about the club “we” and “us” as if they’ve been here for a long time
Last time I checked “excited” had a c in it. Why am I not surprised 🤦‍♂️

I think that will change under Dimma you’ve got to remember that Dew never used to bring out the balls for months in the preseason. Actually using the ball in contested practice as we have seen in the shorts this year will IMO lift the disposal efficiency.

A lot of untapped talent is there, we’ll see. I’ll let dimma work his magic

Despite having some good kicks, Dimma's Richmond weren't exactly chiselling every kick, neither Collingwood this year. It's more about being organised, everyone knowing where the target area's are and supporting each other. Players need to understand their role, and that's where the better coaching (hopefully) will make a difference.

No more Collins trying to pinpoint 50 metre kicks to an out number for example.

Hopefully a lot of goal kicking practice this preseason too.

We're the least disliked and second most liked besides their own team according to that survey. If Brisbane weren't third on that likeable list by 0.6% then I would say it's probably just an indication of lack of success making a team more likeable but obviously Brisbane have been successful historically (and recently) so that's not necessarily true. Perhaps it implies some goodwill towards the northern teams from those living down south?

As soon as we start winning we won't be liked.
Based on? Brisbane are only 0.6% behind us on that list and they just made the GF + have been a top four team for around five years now. GWS are top of that list and have made the finals in six of the last eight seasons which includes a GF in 2019.

The fact they are already whinging about our academies and how much money the AFL gives us, and that a few years ago if you look at that list, Richmond was much higher up due to being successful.

A near identical thing happened to GWS in 2016 with their four first rounders. They drafted Taranto with pick 2 they traded in and secured pick 5 Will Setterfield, pick 14 Harry Perryman and pick 20 Isaac Cumming through their academy access. This was also in a season they lost a close home prelim to the Bulldogs. People were outraged and the AFL adjusted their academy access accordingly which is when people stopped complaining about GWS. Now we find ourselves in a very similar situation. The AFL are about to change the northern academy access and if it's deemed fair by the footy public then they won't have a good reason to hate.
