Yes, deep inside he is Hamilton. But that AFL.com.au review is pretty fair I would say.
Yeah my post wasn’t about the season review I didn’t even know it was out yet.
But yeah after reading it he was just about spot on I reckon

Anyone else notice the change in the way Michael Whiting has been reporting on the Suns in the last few months ?

He’s became real negative all of a sudden.
He’s jumped on the Lions bandwagon but that’s not surprising.

I most certainly have. He’s a Lions man through and through that reports on us through gritted teeth because he’s paid to by the AFL.
I’m disappointed in him.

Really?

Not that much positive to report on the Suns over the back end of the season.
If he was reporting bad things then he much have been watching the same things and hearing the same rumours as me.

Plenty of professional teams employ their own 'reporters' to produce content.
If you would rather that you are living in the wrong country.

Honestly, if I worked in the content industry in Qld I would be all over the Lions and not giving much to the Suns.

The end of season review he did was pretty spot on, I thought.

Foxfooty.com.au understands Evans and Cochrane will request the following:

- At least one priority pick at the top of the draft, in the hope they can select school friends and teammates Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson with selections one and two in November;

- Salary cap relief, though there is an acknowledgment at Gold Coast this is less likely to be approved given how hard the AFL has worked to equalise total player payments in recent years;

- More scope for ambassadorial and marketing money to be distributed to players and prospective trade targets;

- At least first round draft selections to be tied to three-year contracts, rather than two-year deals as is the case currently;

- and Academy changes which would allow the club to gain priority access to elite juniors without the potential for clubs to bid for them.

3 year contracts for first round draftees should’ve been in years ago.
Also like the idea that we don’t have to match bids for academy kids.
Yeah I agree about the 3 year contract for draftees but I believe it’s the AFL players association that is against changing it

I would’ve gone with a retention allowance strategy, similar to what the Lions used to receive, considering the number of interstate recruits on our list. Looks better than straight up extra salary cap requests, that other clubs would argue we would just use to poach and pay for extra good players (like they did to the Lions). Can’t see them helping us there. They must maintain the illusion it’s an equal competition.
We might get the PP1 (not confident), Ambassadorial payments, and maybe the Academy concession. Would be very surprised if they give us any more than this.

Actually Whitting is on record as being a Sydney Swans fan.

He reports on the Suns and the Lions. He lives in Brisbane and doesn't drive or have a licence. So he catches the train down the Coast to attend Suns press conferences and training etc. He's missed quite few Lions media events because he's been down the Coast covering the Suns and hasn't been able to get the train back in time.

He also tries to be as impartial as possible when covering both teams, as he takes his job seriously.

Yes he writes and talks about the Lions in a positive fashion, because we're on the up and look like a positive team.

He's not to dissimilar to Twomey when talking about the Suns, as he talks about the positives where possible. Sometimes people need to look at their team objectively and through the lens of an impartial observer to understand how a journalist might report on a particular team.

The Suns have had a couple of poor seasons, turned over their off field staff, and lost a lot of talented players. That generally only plays out one way in the National media, and that's who Mike Whitting writes for. And Whitting can only report of "stuff" that is on the record or actually happened in the public eye.

He can't write about heaps of stuff that get's mentioned on here, and provides context for supporters about players actions or events. Imagine if Whitting tried to write about Steven May's private life and events that supposedly lead to him leaving the Suns last year. He's be in court so fast, unless he actually had comments on record by some of the parties involved. And then he'd still be speculating that's why May left.

Whitting isn't one of the journalists who writes, "Jack Martin is leaving the Suns, and is being strongly linked to the Western Bulldogs" type rumour "articles", weeks before Martin has officially requested a move to Melbourne. He'll report what's actually occurred, when it's occurred and often be the last person to write about it because he's waited for everything to released publicly by the club, or agent or player.

Grumpy old wannabe firefighter

Young blokes out of their depth currently, but have a red hot crack deserve a beer.

Experienced players at a club that were supposed to challenge for the flag (yet missed finals) after recruiting Motlop, Rockliff, Watts, Lycett don't. There's the difference Kano.
