OK, not formally set until bangladesh defeats Bermuda tomorrow....but still....

Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and West Indies go in with a win under their belts.

England, South Africa, Ireland and Bangladesh are already chasing.

Should be a great series- England may pose the most worries for Australia because of their resurgent form in the one day series down under, but then, england have not performed at a World Cup since 1992....

Sri Lanka for me are the team to watch for australia- if their top order click, they could get or chasea big total....and their bowling may just do enough to put off the aussies....

The Kiwis are also a potential problem- depends how they come out on the day- and the host nation could certainly be tricky.

Based on what I've seen, I don't see Bangladesh or ireland pulling enough upsets to get there. Depending on the actual draw, which I haven't checked, I'll pick the Aussies, the Saffies, the Lankans and the Windies for the semi finals....then it can come down to pitch conditions and the toss.

England and NZ have performed well against Aus and wont have the psychological scars of previous teams.

SL are a random element, everything from billiant to pathetic.

SL are in the best place to threaten the Aussies.

They have actual balance in their team, qualities that no other team has.

Quality pacemen (Vaas), world class spinner (Murali), hard hitting batsmen (Sanath), and stroke players (Kumar).
RSA will bounce back. They should go through.

The other place is between NZ and WI in my opinion. But one little upset here and there and everything changes. If one of the big 6 losses to either Ireland or Bangladesh (especially RSA or England as they are behind), they will be in trouble.

I agree that Sri Lanka might be the team to keep an eye on. I've watched a couple of their matches and I'd put them pretty high up the pecking order with the likes of Tharanga and Malinga backing up the old names of Vaas, Sangakkara and Muralitharan.

Things look ok down under as well, Australia's bowling is finally starting to match it's 'on paper' potential even if McGrath isn't the Pidge of old. It's not a completely daunting attack but the batters will always get plenty of runs to take a bit of the heat off them.

New Zealand look in decent nick but you do wonder what happens if they lose Bond for any period of time. The batsmen seem solid enough and they're nearly always up for it...

Australia
Sri Lanka
West Indies
South Africa/New Zealand
England
Bangladesh
Ireland

England still look a little.. flat, but they might put a couple of noses out of joint if Pietersen, Flintoff and Anderson hit form. Nice to see Joyce making runs in a confident fashion today

is there a world cup on.........i wasn't aware, no one seems interested in it.

i only see highlights on the news and all the grounds are empty......it looks embarrassing.
this could be the final world cup, the cricket world may not survive this disaster especially with india and pakistan out of the cup early which will affect tv ratings on the sub continent.

who is responsible for setting this up??.......i want names.

Seek help.

I picked New Zealand to do very well during this cup, maybe even win the whole thing. They have a strong batting line-up (Fleming, Taylor), some big hitters (Oram, McMillim, McCullum), Vettori and a firing Shane Bond. The will go far and will play in the WOrld Cup final.

The other top four sides will be Sri Lanka, Australia and WI (only because they are playing at home).

I feel Bangledesh will have a solid run through the Super 8 and finish 5th

I really think New Zealand are the biggest threat to Australia. They seem to be getting everything right at the right time but then again how many times have I talked them up and they've gone on to completly stuff up
Australia
New Zealand
west Indies
South Africa/Sri Lanka to go through

Seeing as the stupid CWC and cricinfo sites insist on waiting until tomorrow to put up the Super Eight fixture, here it is:

March 31 - Ireland v England, Guyana
April 1 - Australia v Bangladesh, Antigua & Barbuda
April 2 - West Indies v Sri Lanka, Guyana (winner probably guaranteed spot in semis)
April 3 - Bangladesh v New Zealand, Antigua & Barbuda
April 4 - Ireland v South Africa, Guyana
April 5 - England v Sri Lanka, Antigua & Barbuda
April 8 - Bangladesh v South Africa, Guyana
April 9 - Australia v England, Antigua & Barbuda
April 10 - Ireland v New Zealand, Guyana
April 11 - West Indies v South Africa, Grenada
April 12 - England v Bangladesh, Barbados
April 13 - Sri Lanka v New Zealand, Grenada
April 14 - Australia v Ireland, Barbados
April 15 - South Africa v New Zealand, Grenada
April 16 - Bangladesh v Ireland, Barbados
April 17 - Australia v Sri Lanka, Grenada
April 18 - South Africa v England, Barbados (loser probably can't make semis)
April 19 - Ireland v Sri Lanka, Grenada
April 20 - West Indies v Bangladesh, Barbados
April 21 - Australia v New Zealand, Grenada
April 22 - West Indies v England, Barbados
April 25 - Super Eight 2 v Super Eight 3, Jamaica

aust, nz, sril and windies will make semis.

ireland and bangladesh will only have the chance to win one match (when they play eachother), all other games they will be flogged.

doesnt matter who aust play in the final coz it wont matter. aust will bat first, make 350 and the game will be over.
