Did a little analysis on the Top 20 Batters and Bowlers for last year to try and see what type of players tend to score well

Top 20 Batters
9/20 (45%) were all rounders. All Rounders account for 32% of all batters (over represented at the top).
5/20 (25%) were Wicket Keepers. Wicket Keepers account for 21% of all Batters (marginally over-represented at the top).
7/20 (35%) were opening batsmen.
8/20 (40%) were either 3rd or 4th.

Scoring Profile
Score Type% of total score
Runs50%
Strike Rate Bonus15%
Wickets11%
Catches11%

So ideally you want a Top 4 batsman that is also either likely to bowl at some stage, or take a catch (whether as a wicket keeper, or in a strong fielding position).

Top 20 Bowlers
8/20 (40%) were all rounders. All Rounders account for 29% of all bowlers.
15/20 (75%) were pace bowlers.
5/20 (25%) were spin bowlers.
9/20 (45%) were batting inside the Top 7.
8/12 (66%) of pure bowlers (not all rounders) bowl in the death (last 4 overs).
9/12 (75%) of pure bowlers (not all rounders) open the bowling (first 4 overs).

Scoring Profile
Points Type% of total score
Wickets43%
Runs18%
Dot Balls12%
Economy Rate10%

The biggest takeaway from that is that Economy Rate is really not a huge factor in a bowler scoring well. They are likely to get more points by bowling Dot Balls or Batting in the Top 7 (and taking wickets...obviously).
So it seems like you would want to target pace bowlers that are likely to close and finish the bowling, and also bat in the top 7 (Chris Jordan all of a sudden seems real great value if he's 145k).
