Back:
Jared Brennan(Bri) $316k
Brennan looks set for a big year, but that is said at the start of every year. He had a great pre-season, and with injuries to Clark and Bradshaw, could be set to play a lot of minutes. The only problem is, i can't see him clocking up really big scores. Consistency is obviously a problem as well (although most players at that price suffer from inconsistency as well). Verdict: do not buy.
Centre:
Nigel Lappin(Bri) $264k
Nige is set to make his return in round 1. He had a good hit-out in a practice match, and was looking fantastic from all reports. He is the best value bet in the entire game (or maybe equal with Kosi). Verdict: should be first picked in any team.
Ruck:
Cameron Wood(Bri) $196k
Bradshaw's injury could see Charman playing up forward for the majority of the year. Wood was one of our most impressive in the pre-season, and will start as our number 1 ruck if Charman goes to CHF. It really depends what strategy you are thinking for your ruck division. Most people are only going with 2 really good rucks, and a couple of el cheapos in reserve to free-up money elsewhere. If you wanted a third ruck for security, Wood, Hudson, and Darcy look your best bets. Verdict: will get plenty of game-time and is ensured of doubling in value.
Forward:
Rhan Hooper(Bri) $236k
No. Verdict: no.
Mitch Clarke(Bri) $291k
Injured for the first 4-6 weeks. I wouldn't pick him at the start of the year, and I believe there are better value forwards out there. Verdict: would not buy, but maybe re-assess when he comes back.
He is a must in every team, although his return to the seniors will be cautious. I am going to trade for him when he returns.
