If Frank Lowy is willing to pay for all of it, I dont want to economically cripple my beautiful country because soccer people want some tournament that most people are not really interested in.

Sure Australia can host a world cup-we've hosted other international events.
1956 Melbourne Olympics
1988-World Expo
2000-Sydney Olympics
2022 will offer another generation the chance to host the world on a grand scale, and it will truly be an Australian event.
We all know people that have been to some of these great events held in Australia in the past and they always leaving a positive lasting impression, because we do it so well.

again wtf does this thread have to do with the bid or the topic? clearly some people have gone to sleep, I mean there are enough places for you dumb idiotic opinions but starting a thread for it, is plain and simply embarrassing, I mean who the f*ck do you think you are? Australia has hosted multiple olympics, commonwealth games, world cups in other sports etc, and yet we can't host the biggest event on the planet? yeah? what an idiot. Go back to your cave loser, we're not in the 1940's.

I wonder if the kingmakers have cottoned on yet to the fact that to have their NBN and VFT, they need to dissuade the Labor government from proceeding with the WC.

BSE why are you not up in arms that the independents are to receive $10b in funding for various projects promised to them from the newly-formed labour government.

17 days ago none of the $10b was to be spent if labour won the election outright, so maybe that can be a reason for no NBN or VFT (although labour will proceed with the NBN whether you like it or not).

You should be screaming from the rooftops about mismanagement of goverment spending if they can see it fit to spend $10b in just 17 days, given that you are highly critical of the world cup spending which is to take place over the next 12 years.

BSE you are a complete moron, eveyone else has given up with the stupid anti world cup post, you may as well do the same.

Where do you reckon the money is coming from to re-direct tax payer money to the bush (where it is sorely needed)?

IF the NBN and VFT is to occur as well - there is only one pot of gold that is available.

17 days ago this money was not being spent by either party so i'm not sure how you can say it is sorely needed, if it was, the money would have been allocated to the bush early on in the election campaign. Basically the independents have been bought out, no other way of looking at it.

I'd still prefer to spend billions on a world cup that will benefit the entire country, rather than spend $10b on just 2 independent voters.

The $10 billion isn't directed at their two seats - but at the whole of regional Australia.

And yes, I'd prefer that $10 billion go to providing the bush with some equity than to organising a big, expensive party for city dwellers.

The $10 billion is being spent at the discretion of just two people, whereas the world cup "party" as you like to call it is for the entire nation and to be enjoyed by both people in the city and in regional areas.
