... in regards to some of the players that are being mooted to be on the move.

I only say this because we will have a massive surplus in our salary cap this year, I think we only pay 92.5% as it is and we will have even more cash as a result of Grant retiring and the likely retirements/delistings of Nathan Thompson, Leigh Brown and Jess Sinclair (I reckon we are paying these blokes combined around a million dollars a year). Sure, some of that will be taken up in the upgrading of contracts we've done over the last couple of months, but every team does that.

We're crying out for a couple of marquee players, off field the club has never been stronger and our facilities are about to go through a renovation that will make us the envy of most of the league. Add to that the fact that (I know I'm saying this before the Port game but to assume) we have finished in the top four in the league two years running.

So, what is it? A perceived lack of trade bait? Are we the forgotten club? Is the myth that we can't sustain the wages of a big star still rampant?

Or are we likely to pop up in trade week and be a surprise home to someone like Kerr or Brown.

I don't know how much stock can be put into the rumour that Chris Judd had initially selected North as his destination but declined when we couldn't give him a guarantee that we wouldn't be on the Gold Coast, but surely thats another concern thats been eliminated.

I'm just interested in y'alls thoughts.

They don't get mentioned for the same reason as people always have them in the bottom 4; simply nobody rates there chances.

Really haven't landed a big fish in recent years (same can be said with other clubs that are consistanly mentioned).

I reckon they would struggle to get Kerr and/or Brown. With the position they are in ladder wise, there not going to have the picks that these clubs would want.

A Kerr or Brown would be a good get for North. Especially Brown.

Would not have the picks or players to do it considering Lachlan Hansen is off limits (assuming). Would need a top10 pick plus a decent player for any deal to happen, North will get pick12 at the most

Why do you want to bother paying out for marquee players? You have been far more successful than most clubs over the last two or three years without one.

In the very unlikely event of Brown going, I think that North would be in the best position to satisy Brisbane's wants. A deal of say Troy Selwood (you wanted him last yr for Pick 15 IIRC) and Brown for your first rounder, Urquhart and Hale would be fair IMO...

I don't put any stock in that whatsoever.

North will clearly have a stack of cap space, but without free agency cap space only gets you so far. It does allow you to tie up some of the quality youngsters you have though.

What are North will to give up in a trade?

Not enthralled about it but would imagine the players who are not cracking regular senior berths (even if contracted) would be shopped around.

Matt Riggio and Andrew Swallow spring to mind.

Personally want to us to hold on to our young core, Geelong held their nerve for years and look at their dividends.

It's pretty simple really. You have few fans, attract small crowds and sell few newspapers. It all adds up to little interest from players, fans and the media.

Bay 13 is over there =>>>>>>>>>>>>.

North Melbourne will be getting a bit more newspaper ink this September than your mob I'm guessing?

Just as we did last September.

Enjoy your extra long offseason douche.

That is exactly North's problem, even though Carlton are not playing will still get more coverage.

Not knocking just how it is.

Facts? Did you quote some statistics correlating some key figures against a club's ability to recruit an AFL listed player? I must've missed them.

Nice hypocrisy to your post too. Again, enjoy September xx

I think another issue is the facilities the Kangaroos have, and the money outside the cap they have to spend on development - an announced upgrade to facilities and a handful of artists renditions taped to the inside of a transportable site office just don't stack up compared to a tour through the Lexus Centre.

Whilst i respect the NMFC and am glad they've been able to remain in Melbourne YOU seem to be arguing purely from the heart and not the head - which, incidentally, is probably what i'd be tempted to do if i were in your position.

However, i'm open to be persuaded otherwise, but i see it as a simple FACT that your team has ALWAYS suffered from lack of support and resultant media interest. These, in turn, at least contribute to why North doesn't really register on the radar of big name players on the move (in answer to the OP's question).

That's a generally held opinion i'd have thought but i'd be intertested to know if any NON Kangaroos supporters out there might disagree.

BTW Corey, don't bother yapping on about September action pal - we've got FOUR TIMES the ultimate in September brings (flags) than your mob and we're very much looking forward to 2009. ;)

North could win a flag - and expects would still saying that they should fold, relocation, merge etc, thats just the way it seems to be..

What North lack in supporter, media and supposed player interest - they make up for in tenacity in the way they go about it on the field, I sure hope Melbourne show similar traits in the future, id be a happy fan.
