I'm sorry to say it's a 👎as far as this being on the main board. Why? Isn't that what the other boards are for? I'm all for Swans fans getting together to chat about cricket, politics or anything else they're interested in but if it's not footy related I vote for it being on a separate board. I respect that this is the mods decision to make - just giving my input.

If you don't want to discuss Cricket then you don't need to post in the thread. Having a thread more visible means more people will see it and it doesn't stop people from discussing football in the normal threads. Other teams have threads like this on their board so lets move with the times a bit rather than pushing things off to the side.

We have always had a cricket thread as do most boards and as you say no one has to read it .

I just hope they pick the opener to open. Be a novel look to have a sporting selctor pick players in their actual preferred, trained for, positions.

It is an idea so crazy I for one am fascinated to see if it works out.

Sorry, Green (if he can bowl) has to play in place of Webster. Neither of them have been in form in the Shield, but Green has test hundreds.

Khawaja
Weatherald
Marnus
Smith
Head
Green
Carey
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood
Boland

I lost all interest in cricket when the glorious Mitchell Johnson retired ☹️

And don't get me started on Smith captaining again 🤬🤬🤬

I love Smithy as captain, what happened years ago is in the past and in my opinion and not everyone will agree were completely over the top wanting at adhere to media who wouldnt even watch a game in their life.

As for the squad, fine with it except the Abbott disaster, how does this bloke get picked

He hasn't played, so he hasn't done anything wrong?

Should have been that far away from the squad it's not funny, really seems a pity selection. How on earth is Neser not ahead let alone someone like O'Neil. He's bowled a grand total of 9 overs in Shield cricket this season...and that gets you into an Ashes squad?

I hear he's a good bloke and good at the drinks

Averages 31 in first class , what a joke . O'Neill has played 38 games and has an average of 20

The worst thing....he's bowled NINE overs this season for NSW in first class cricket....

I wouldn't have picked O'Neil but I'm struggling to see one reason Neser who has like 15 wickets in 2 Shield games, then was rested is apparently behind him.

O'Neil I think they are slightly parking for an overseas tour, think he'd be elite with the Duke ball in England

Sure would want to be because he reminds me of the Six and Out song....can't bat and can't bowl
Geez - a bit over the top?

His problem is not that he can't bat or bowl (he can do both pretty well) but rather that he hasn't had an opportunity to get into any form so far this year. There are others who have, and other countries would give their left nut to have someone like Neser in their team - it's just unfortunate that his career coincides with possibly the best bowling quartet Australia has ever had.

He’s been picked off 9 overs of red ball cricket it’s a joke. He’s awful, absolute pity selection we all know it. I agree Neser is behind the quartet but he’s sure better than Doggett and Abbott!

Sure, but you are changing the topic. My point was that Neser can't squeeze into this bowling attack because they will go down amongst the list of all-time greats to bowl for Australia.

By the way, you piqued my interest so I googled the number of WSC Super Test wickets they got.
Lillee - 67
Gilmour - 23
Thomson - 16
Pascoe - 30
Alderman - 28
Walker - 28

Some great names and memories in there. By the way, consider the poor Sydney grade opening batsmen when they had to front up against Bankstown and face Thomson and Pascoe...!

Imagine facing them at training. Spoke to someone who played with them for Bankstown, scary scary stuff.

Might be the last ashes series for Hazelwood & Starc. Imo they'll push for another England tour in 27.

They have all played more tests this lot . Lillee and Alderman had bad injuries
If i had to pick 4 for a team it would be Lillee, Thommo , Alderman and Cummins
If I had to pick 4 it would be Lillee, Thommo, McGrath and Alderman.
McGrath was lethal in the first few overs. Took out most openers. Most best batsmen. Very restrictive as well.

Massive Shield game at the SCG , this used to be the Boxing Day fixture at the MCG and would draw crowds of well over 30 k

Be nice if a few got runs watch Konstas get runs now the pressure is off

I don't know what you mean by pie thrower. I suspect it is not complimentary.
He was THE most lethal openng bowler capable of taking wickets in the opening few overs I have seen.

Here we bring in a new, untold, and rare cricket fact: Glenn McGrath had the most wickets for ducks of any fast bowler in Tests, dismissing 104 batsmen.

Glenn McGrath is widely regarded as one of the finest fast bowlers in cricket history. The Australian’s record of dismissing 104 batsmen for a duck in Test cricket demonstrates his exceptional bowling abilities as well as his ability to outsmart batsmen. This is the second-most dismissals by a fast bowler for ducks in Test cricket history, and people will remember it for years to come.

McGrath’s 104-duck record is a fantastic accomplishment that illustrates his precision, control, and mastery of the art of bowling. He was known for extracting seam movement from any surface, and he usually used his height to add bounce and velocity. He was a bowler with the ability to swing the ball both ways at will, making him a significant threat to any batsman who came to bat.

The Australian fast bowler set a record by dismissing 104 batsmen for a duck in 124 Test matches, a remarkable strike rate. McGrath’s ability to dismiss batsmen for a duck was not limited to any one opponent; he accomplished this feat against all Test-playing nations. He was a bowler who could adjust to any situation and was equally efficient on flat, bounce, and movement pitches.

During his 124-Test career, he took 563 Test wickets and dismissed batsmen for ducks 104 times, the highest by a bowler in history. McGrath also dismissed batters for a duck 71 times in ODI cricket and once in T20I cricket. McGrath is the most successful bowler in international cricket, having taken 949 wickets.
If you have been involved in cricket like i have since the Bradman days , blokes that bowled a bit slower and maybe most pommy bowlers have been called that , maybe read further for my praise of him
Ps i was on the BBQ at my club last night volunteering . Hope you put in somewhere and sorry i didn't read war and peace
Spewing i didn't see WG Grace
