Here is weird idea I just had. With all the talk about the Swans depth I began to wonder what it is really like.

This is what I imagine our best 22 is

B: Jeremy Laidler, Ted Richards, Nick Smith
HB: Gary Rohan, Heath Grundy, Dane Rampe
CH: Harry Cunningham, Josh P. Kennedy, Kieren Jack
HF: Lewis Jetta, Lance Franklin, Jarrad McVeigh
F: Sam Reid, Kurt Tippett, Adam Goodes
FOL: Mike Pyke, Dan Hannebery, Luke Parker
I/C: Rhyce Shaw, Tom Mitchell, Jake Lloyd, Ben McGlynn

There have been some teams that have been hurt by injuries a lot this season, some teams missing close to half of their best 22 so for this game go to this site

https://www.random.org/lists/

and type in

Jeremy Laidler
Ted Richards
Nick Smith
Gary Rohan
Heath Grundy
Dane Rampe
Harry Cunningham
Josh P. Kennedy
Kieren Jack
Lewis Jetta
Lance Franklin
Jarrad McVeigh
Sam Reid
Kurt Tippett
Adam Goodes
Mike Pyke
Dan Hannebery
Luke Parker
Rhyce Shaw
Tom Mitchell
Jake Lloyd
Ben McGlynn

and the players that come out from 1 to 8 are all suddenly injured. What does Longmire do?

For me I had
  1. Rhyce Shaw
  2. Jeremy Laidler
  3. Luke Parker
  4. Ben McGlynn
  5. Dane Rampe
  6. Lance Franklin
  7. Kurt Tippett
  8. Heath Grundy

B: ?, Ted Richards, Nick Smith
HB: Gary Rohan, ?, ?
CH: Harry Cunningham, Josh P. Kennedy, Kieren Jack
HF: Lewis Jetta, ?, Jarrad McVeigh
F: Sam Reid, ?, Adam Goodes
FOL: Mike Pyke, Dan Hannebery, ?
I/C: ?, Tom Mitchell, Jake Lloyd, ?

So I imagine Longmire would have to go with

B: Nic Newman, Ted Richards, Nick Smith
HB: Gary Rohan, Xavier Richards, Zak Jones
CH: Harry Cunningham, Josh P. Kennedy, Kieren Jack
HF: Lewis Jetta, Sam Reid, Jarrad McVeigh,
F: , Sean McLaren, Adam Goodes, Issac Heeney
FOL: Mike Pyke, Dan Hannebery, Tom Mitchell
I/C: Cragh Bird, Dean Towers, Brandon Jack, Jake Lloyd

Best way to stop being bored at work.

  1. Luke Parker
  2. Rhyce Shaw
  3. Jake Lloyd
  4. Kurt Tippett
  5. Dane Rampe
  6. Heath Grundy
  7. Adam Goodes
  8. Dan Hannebery
B: Nick Smith, Ted Richards, Xavier Richards
HB: Jeremy Laidler, Sam Reid, Jarrad McVeigh
C: Harry Cunningham, Tom Mitchell, Lewis Jetta
HF: Ben McGlynn, Lance Franklin, Craig Bird
F: Gary Rohan, Toby Nankervis, Isaac Heeney
R: Mike Pyke, Josh Kennedy, Kieren Jack
I/C: Zak Jones, Brandon Jack, Dan Robinson, George Hewett

  1. Ted Richards
  2. Dan Hannebery
  3. Kurt Tippett
  4. Jarrad McVeigh
  5. Nick Smith
  6. Sam Reid
  7. Josh P. Kennedy
  8. Mike Pyke
B: Jeremy Laidler, Xavier Richards, Rhyce Shaw
HB: Gary Rohan, Heath Grundy, Dane Rampe
CH: Harry Cunningham, Tom Mitchell, Kieren Jack
HF: Lewis Jetta, Lance Franklin, Jake Lloyd
F: Ben McGlynn, Toby Nankervis, Adam Goodes
FOL: Sam Naismith, Craig Bird, Luke Parker
I/C: Zak Jones, Isaac Heeney, George Hewett, Dan Robinson

Emg: Aliir Aliir, Dean Towers, Brandon Jack

I lost
Richards
Rampe
Shaw Ohhh nooo
Mitchell
Mcveigh
Mcglynn
Smith
Pyke

B Laidler, Grundy, Cunningham
Hb Johnson, Reid, Rohan
C Jetta, Hannebery, Jack
Hf Goodes, Franklin, Heeney
F Lloyd, Tippett, Bird
Foll Derrickx, Kennedy, Parker
Int Robinson Jones Towers hiscox

1 Rohan-Jones. Lose a bit of height and speed, but not defensive pressure and effort
2 Richards- Maybe upgrade McLaren. Not sold on X, but what can you do?
3 Grundy- Aliir. Lose some defence but gain some run
4 Reid- Towers. lose some defence and big grabs, but similar offence wise.
McGlynn-Robinson. Best player available, and shown he can play. Lose tagging, but Bird in makes up for it.
6 Kennedy-Bird. Switched Bird for Mitchell at Centre. not a huge loss, maybe some forward marks.
7 Cunningham- Heeney. bit of a tie, lose some defnce/tagging.
8 Laidler- Harry Marsh. Newman not ready. Lose a little height, and bravery, but Marsh has been good defensively in ressies.

wow, defence decimated.

B: Harry Marsh, X Richards, Nick Smith
HB: Zac Jones, Aliir Aliir, Dane Rampe
CH: Issac Heeney, Tom Mitchell, Kieren Jack
HF: Lewis Jetta, Lance Franklin, Jarrad McVeigh
F: Dean Towers, Kurt Tippett, Adam Goodes
FOL: Mike Pyke, Dan Hannebery, Luke Parker
I/C: Rhyce Shaw, Craig Bird, Jake Lloyd, Dan Robinson

Screwed. Would actually require a whole gameplan change, would need to score way more because more would be scored against us.

  1. Dan Hannebery
  2. Kieren Jack
  3. Nick Smith
  4. Gary Rohan
  5. Sam Reid
  6. Lewis Jetta
  7. Lance Franklin
  8. Josh P. Kennedy

B: Laidler, Richards, Shaw
HB: McVeigh, Grundy, Rampe
CH: Cunningham, Mitchell, Lloyd
HF: B. Jack, Nankervis , McGlynn
F: Heeney, Tippett, Goodes
FOL: Mike Pyke, Bird, Parker
I/C: Robinson, Jones , Marsh ,Hewett

Missing some real talent but that lineup would still be capable of beating quite a few teams.

The big targets in the forward line aren't exactly the most mobile but hopefully the pace of B. Jack, McGlynn and the skills of Heeney will be enough to compensate with some quality crumbing.

The centre square rotations are a bit of a concern with McVeigh playing down back and Hannebery, Jack and Kennedy unavailable. But a starting lineup of Mitchell, Parker, Bird and Mcglynn/Robinson/Heeney/Jones isn't the worst in the AFL.

EDIT: As much as I'm not a fan, I'd probably put Towers in for Marsh or Hewett. I'd also consider not playing Nankervis and having Goodes at FF/CHF as another variation.

I prefer the "Gold Coast Game" - take Kennedy, Parker, Jack, Hannebery, McVeigh, Grundy, Rohan, Jetta, Lloyd, Laidler, Nankervis, Hewett, Robinson, Jones and Bird out of the squad and see if you can put together a team that wouldn't lose by 100.

B: Marsh, T Richards, Smith

C: Cunningham, Mitchell, Reid
HF: B. Jack, Franklin, Towers
F: Rose, Tippett, Goodes
FOL: Pyke, McGlynn, Heeney
I/C: Derickx, Perris , Allir Allir, Hiscox

With our defensive capabilities I'd back that side in to keep margins under 100 most weeks.

And obviously having Parker, Hanneberry, Kennedy and McVeigh out of the side isn't a bad thing as they're probably just getting in Tom Mitchell's way.

Work is so dull so I accept.

B: Nick Smith, Ted Richards, Dane Rampe

C: Harry Cunningham, Isaac Heeney, Sam Reid

Might be controversial, but with that team and an ultra-defensive gameplan (like what the GCS have been playing over the last month or so), I reckon that side would eek out a win or two over a ten week period and keep most sides under a 100 point margin.

You have to take Robinson out

do we add any players with drink and drug problems?

Given that we've got McGlynn and Heeney back in contention you'd think it would be fair but I guess the point of the exercise is looking at our depth this season so probably best he's left out.

Yes that is what I was generally thinking as I was thinking this seasons best 22. Johnson was never going to be involved in that unfortunately.

I think that many of you are underestimating the strength of our depth. We were decimated by injuries in 1013 and made a Preliminary Final. I would argue that our depth is just as good, maybe even better than it was then (that was when White and Biggs were playing for us).

in before swansfan51 disputes your decimation claims :P

It appears I have been too slow, kudos Sir.

Our 2013 Prelim team had 17 players who played 20+ games for the year - excellent consistency. The others were White (15 games), Biggs ("depth"), Cunningham (5 games), Jetta (definite best 22) and Rohan (definite best 22). Only a couple of depth players at most. 1 of them in Cunningham played every game the next year so was clearly considered at the best 22 standard. White was always in and out of the side but a genuine senior depth option at 25yo. Biggs was rubbish.

Biggs was one of our few good players in the Preliminary final against Fremantle.

Injured I had......

  1. Jeremy Laidler
  2. Sam Reid
  3. Tom Mitchell
  4. Dan Hannebery
  5. Nick Smith
  6. Mike Pyke
  7. Jake Lloyd
  8. Adam Goodes
So the side has these gaps......

B: XXXXXX, Ted Richards,XXXXXXX
HB: Gary Rohan, Heath Grundy, Dane Rampe
CH: Harry Cunningham, Josh P. Kennedy, Kieren Jack
HF: Lewis Jetta, Lance Franklin, Jarrad McVeigh
F: XXXXXXX, Kurt Tippett, XXXXXXXXX
FOL: XXXXXXXXX, XXXXXXXX, Luke Parker
I/C: Rhyce Shaw, Tom Mitchell, XXXXXXXX, Ben McGlynn

So, in order of position, I'd be replacing with....

Newman
Jones
Davis
Heeney
Derickx
Hewitt
Bird

I think we'd still be competitive.

So with 2 missing from our best 22 you're saying we weren't decimated?
