Hello all,
When ever I can I will hopefully post my thoughts on the recent games in the Sydney Premier Division, particularly the Illawarra Lions :)

Yet lost to Camden despite being up by 5 goals at the last break? Footy sucks at times. Very even comp though, 2nd to 7th all a chance.

One game between second and seventh at this stage of the season is quite incredible.

Good to see the likes of the Jets and Camden up there as well, hopefully someone can knock off Sydney Uni!

Only team to lose to Illawarra too. Dropped so many games we should have had, yet 2/2 against Uni. Game against Manly this week will be big, we kicked 1.9 against them in the first half last time.

I've lived in London the last month, logged onto the website just now. What the **** is going on? We beat manly by 81, Uni don't kick a goal v you guys, and camden win by 150 against balmain.

Typical August weather, howling gales across Sydney. We actually kicked more goals into the wind than with it, Uni had no answer...an off day for the Students perhaps, they aren't ladder leaders for nothing. They'll bounce back.

Manly named a strong team on paper, Rawle, Lindsay are handy players, but I imagine the wind at Kelso would've played havoc as well.

As for Balmain, they only named 20 players, that can't be good.

balmain wont make the finals now, thats pretty big.
I see from the Dockers website that they are using reserves and underage kids to top up their seniors, and that can't be good either, for any of their teams.
There was this great plan that they would import footballers from Perth and bring something "new" to Sydney footy. Then there were these feeders, one of which I think was on the Central Coast.
You'd hope that your club was more settled than this when finals are just a couple of weeks away.

We'll give it a shake this weekend.
PK, good article about your club in the Record this week....written by someone 'unbiased' I hope !

I'm all for the Premier Division myself, and Sydney footy for me starts and finishes at that divide. But I sure am pleased at the way that your club has embraced divisionalisation. Same for Gosford. I red with interest your story about how your club was all up the creek a couple of years ago but you guys have crawled out of the swamp and are back-in-town.

We are all better off in the SFL if clubs like yours can find their feet and be strong.

I heard a report that Garry Burkinshaw is leaving the AFL after September- can anyone verify that ?

He has been a great operator for NSW footy and will be sadly missed.
Good luck for your future endeavours Garry

Surely there's enough people around who are prepared to play for them for the money they are paying. Or are the pockets empty now?

I confirmed it for you on RWO but just to reassure you;) - there was a press release last week.

Thanks mate, Glenn is our president so he was fielding the questions, my committee days are long over now. We've come a long way since those days and it gives me a sense of pride to see us financial and competitive, and before long we will have a new clubhouse and ground as well. And hopefully a few teams in finals next week! I'm still stinging from my last finals game, couldn't even finish it out!

Having a regular U/18's will be your biggest positive going forward.

It certainly has been for us, despite the difficult year this season.

We've consistently had 2-3 of them in our senior side each week, and if you can add a couple of senior quality graduates at the end of each year, before you know it, if you combine them with the odd mature age blow-in you've built a pretty strong side.

Well finals are set, no balmain or Manly which is pretty lolz.

I've been overseas for about last 5 rounds so haven't played all the games but quick run down of what I think of the sides.

Camden - I only played them in the mud, not in the infamous 5 goal comeback in the 4th quarter. That Josiah guy is real quality, he needs to be tagged. Couple of other decent players but imo aren't too good. I would have been more worried about playing Manly or Balmain from what I saw in earlier rounds, not on recent form. Hopefully the boys back home fire and get the win next weekend. Have to say we are favorites.

Nor-West - Finishing 3rd is pretty huge, I certainly didn't expect it and don't know even if you guys did. Few area's I think you are weak in (won't tell you now!) but over all a solid side. Obv don't mind the physical stuff. We are 2-0 against you so you'd have to think we'd be favourites going into a finals game, but with finals who knows.

Unsw - First time we played them, they were undefeated comp leaders and ended up beating us by about a goal, we were right in it though, think we were about 2-4 at the time and probably one of the changing moments in our season. Second time we played them (my last game) absolutely pulled their pants down. Not sure if they had people out but after kicking the first 2 goals they could only manage 1 more for the match. Interesting game v Norwest, could really go either way.

Syd Uni - I didn't play them a few weeks ago, but I remember after we beat them in round 1 they kept saying how they didn't have all their players. Loses to Us and Nor-West last couple of weeks prove they aren't unbeatable. Would have to be the comp favorites but should be interesting.

Anyway, good luck to all, hopefully we get up but if we can't camden or norwest ftw!
