Col is going to absolutely rip it in the midfield next season, with a pre-season under his belt...look out. Showed enough signs this year that with a bit more endurance he is going to be a straight up superstar. We will have one of the most exciting young on ball brigade in 08': McLean, Jones, Sylvia. Sounds pretty good to me. ;)

I honestly hope to god you're right because he's gotta show something the kid.

Also...This wouldn't happen to be a Judd-deflection thread Tommy?:p

Add Moloney to the list and watch them smash the shite through all before them!

Lol I like where your head is at. If we can get him up and running things may be looking on the up!

I want him to play the next 6 years in the guts, get two all austrlians then when neita retires the age of 39 with 2 premiship medallions and 3 more coleman medals sylvia goes into full forward and becomes the next Gary Ablett

Haha yeah it's all part of the 'get over Judd' process. But seriously, if we pick up another gun midfielder with 4...pretty exciting.

Sylvia needs a good pre-season for sure. I don't think that he has had a decent one since he has been there. He and Moloney are in the same boat need to get their groins right otherwise alot of talent going down the drain.

col better because im getta over it, suppose to have all this promise ..when we drafted him best player melbourne has ever had they said in the riccouto mold but has been far from it. Looks more like a poor mans scott thompson(mummys boy go home to adelaide) to me.

But your right hasnt had a pre season uninterupted yet, he needs to step it up this year and get fit enough to spend at least half the game in the middle

Put it this way. Luke Hodge had a pretty bad groin problem early in his career and he had it fixed up. It took time but look at him now.

I'm not saying Sylvia or Moloney are of the same class as Hodge but still, they will both be very valuable players. And yeah, I'm very optimistic about them both

Love the way Sylvia plays,he could do anything ,this is going to be his first injury free pre-season.

Moloney's nothing much. But Sylvia reminds me of Jimmy Bartel. Nuggetty midfielder who is strong overhead. Remember we drafted him ahead of Brock McLean, so Dees clearly think that he has more promise. And wouldn't it be great If they were proven right. I think he has class, just a little on the slow side.

Slow as in speed, because he looks quick enough for me and that we no doubt improve with his fitness. Or slow as in decision making, because i think he looks slow because he has a more creative side of his game so sometimes he might get caught with it.

I rate his as the best tackler at the club (ahead of Bell) and he also has the hard ball getting ability of McLean, can't wait to see him in the middle.

Yeah, best tackler at Melbourne without doubt. His skills could do with some work, but his talent is amazing. He showed glimpses last year, especially v the Dogs where he was outstanding.
I assume his fitness base is the issue as he hasn't had a preseason, but he needs to spend much, much more time on the ball. He just doesn't seem to get a chance in there often enough.

I can only experience Deja Vu once (ironically).

He needs to deliver...

Jimmy bartel please....not even close!! jimmys hands all the way through even under 18's were exceptional lightning col gets caughgt way way to much with the ball, jim is smart and at the stage id say colin isnt. Of course that can change but like i said if colin turns out like scott thompson right now at adelaide ill be very happy........just really dont know

Davey have u guys forgotten the best tackler eaily at melbourne, something we lack foward pressure. sure some of his tackles mighten stick but no-one hunts them down better in the entire league

I'm a little surprised to see the Sylvia love reappear, after reading a number of times that people would be happy to trade him. I've been saying for a long time now that trading Sylvia would have been a mistake that would have cost us dearly, as all he needs is an injury free run an a kick up the ass.

I don't think I would have coped if Col was traded then turned into the star I know he will be...

HE NEEDS TO STAY OFF THE PISS FOR A YEAR IE: STEVE JOHNSON

Firstly, he didn't say Sylvia was as good as Jimmy. He said Syliva reminds him of Jimmy. Big difference.

As for Davey, his tackling could do with some work. Like you said, some don't stick, but if he can get the dreaded hamstrings right, he'll be on the hunt again.

In terms of tackling, Whelan, McDonald, Sylvia I rate ahead of Davey. He sticks out because of his run downs, but in terms of being able to lay a textbook tackle and make it stick, its hard to go past the three I mentioned.

May be others I missed but too tired to dissect the tackling abilities of our list. Just picked the ovious ones.

Yeah Whelan is another good one I dont think anyone's mentioned, unless I missed it.
Sylvia is just a monster. You can see as soon as he's in proximity he just pounces and a lot of the time makes them pay the price which is always good to see.
I think Junior suprises a lot of players. He's not as big as Sylvia, and looks lankier so you don't automatically think he's a threat, so with this players might feel a little more comfortable around him allowing him to close in.
As for Wheels. He's the Wrecker, what more can you say?

He certainly is. I sometimes forget how important he is to our backline. No point recruiting a strong bodied defender if Nathan Brown is going to kick seven on you.

The thing is, he has always had this potential. He hasn't taken advantage of it yet, but part of being a fan is going to the 'G on a Saturday and seeing which players have come to play, which players have disappointed, and which players create some real excitement.

Point is Melbourne are death tacklers.

Once you're caught, YOU DIE!

LOL what an over exagerated statement.... but just a view here guys

BYRON PICKETTS TACKLE ON KANE CORNES THIS YEAR AGAINST PORT AT THE MCG THIS YEAR WAS THE GREATEST TACKLE I HAVE EVER SEEN

Byron nearly did kill him that was senstaional, ill miss byron but he has become a liability and can easily see the reasons why he so called retired, although i think he was pushed.....would have been interesting to see if bails could have got anything out of him with the port. link to them?
