Shane Warne burns bowling hand

December 12, 2011 - 11:32AM

The writers of the soap opera that is Shane Warne's life have delivered a shocking twist and landed a potential blow for Cricket Australia's Big Bash League.

Just days before Warne plays his first official game on Australian soil for nearly five years, the leg-spinner is nursing burns to his precious right hand, placing doubt on his availability for the start of the event.

Warne, who will play for the Melbourne Stars, is believed to have burnt his hand in a cooking accident.

Stars chief Clint Cooper said he expected Warne to be fit for the team's first match of the tournament, against the David Warner-led Sydney Thunder at the MCG on Saturday night.

Warne posted a photo on Twitter of his hand, showing large blisters on three of his fingers with his little finger the worst affected.

"Not ideal preparation for practice match today-burning the bowling hand Get better quickly please, any suggestions-HELP," Warne wrote on Twitter.

The Melbourne Renegades also have injury scares, with star batsman Brad Hodge hurting his hamstring in a practice game against the Stars at the MCG today.

Hodge had made 37 from 24 balls, with five fours and a six, and was running at half pace to the non-striker's end when he suddenly pulled up.

Hodge, who turns 37 on December 29, grabbed the top of his right hamstring.

He hobbled off the ground in obvious pain.

The Renegades begin their Big Bash campaign against the Adelaide Strikers at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

Just joined, hope that's alright. It's full now, so someone might want to post another league. Can also join 250391.

Is there a good database anywhere for injury and clashes?

At the moment I'm mostly going on what Shane Warne said on his blog on the site. I understand that those in the Australian Test side will miss a game or two, but what about Vettori, Naved, Gayle etc. ? Do they have commitments during the Big Bash season with their own international sides.

As for injuries, I've dropped Hodge and Vettori, but am nervous about Warne. Apparently he'll be alright, but he missed today's practise match with a burnt hand.

i haven't seen much of Katich playing T20's but i wouldn't think he would be much of a big hitter.
