How'd everyone go on the punt yesterday

i went to the cox plate i had a great day on the punt

got gallopin at odds
lucky secret
Whobegotyou

and a couple in sydney

spent all the winnings on piss tho which tends to be the way

had another good day on the punt

how'd everyone else fare....

tips for the melbourne cup ????

1. Mad Rush- Great run in the Caulfield and would have won had it got a clear run at them the whole way down the straight. I like the fact that it's had that one run in Aus as opposed to Septimus. Oliver on board which is a plus.
2.Profound Beauty- One of the Internationals that hasnt had a lot of fanfare etc. It's form is quite solid and heard a whisper at Derby Day that one very very big punter has a big tip on it and will be having a pretty big crack at it. Will be in the finish
3.Septimus- Probably the best horse in the race but with the weight and the fact that it hasn't had a run in Aus is a worry. Unless we get a little bit of rain i think the track will be too firm. Will still be thereabouts and wouldnt surprise me if it won.
roughy-Barbaricus- Honest horse who just keeps finding when challenged. I think it will run the trip and definately worth a flutter each way.

next best- cest las guerre-gallopin-zipping

Continued my winning run although I as only $30 up for the day this time. All up for the spring carnival would be up about 600-700.

Melbourne Cup is a shit race for punting. Last year was the first time I've ever picked the winner I think. Anyway I will be looking for value, especially in my trifectors.

1. Varevees - $100 long shot but is carrying no weight and has beat Yeats in the past. Has won over 3100m so distance no trouble. Supposedly in poor form but has been training well at Sandown and can't see why they would have brought the horse all the way from France if it couldn't win.

2. Septimus - If it races to it's ability and gets a good run it should win in a canter. This doesn't always happen in Melbourne Cups though. Still must include in multi's.

3. Cest La Guerre - Strong run following Zipping in the Cox Plate. Should have no trouble with the journey. Class the only trouble.

Rest of the top 6: Nom De Jue, Barbaricus, Mad Rush

Mad Rush for me, great run at caulfield and unlike most internationals he acutally ran between horses and made up ground. Most of them need room so have to go wide cos cant handle the pressure when it gets tight. If Septimus can sit 2 wide in the top 8 it will be hard to beat cos will take off a long way out but i reckon mad rush at the weights with Oliver on board is the one to beat.

Would ravage Francesca Cumanis box.

As usual another terrible cup day. Placed $200 worth of bets for a return of $0.

Like sneak another shocker on cup day....
I was in the members for the day which was the only highlight....
Apart from backing Neroli.....

Got sucked in on the cup outlaying couple hundred for no return...
Plus had 3 things beaten in photos

Back to the drawing board for Oaks-Emirates now

Surely Samantha Miss can break the Favourites hoodoo of the Carnival:thumbsu:

If Samantha Miss runs close to her cox plate run no-one will get within 5 lengths of her.

* Was impressed by Rocha and Killimsy (sp?) runs on saturday though.

Samanthat miss should win but who would have thought whobegotya could get beaten in the derby. He didnt run a bad race and beat the 3rd horse easily, just that other thing was far too good. Saying that I think she will win easily, looks as good as Miss Finland as a 3yo and should get the 2500m no worries.

Good week to be a bookie i reckon. Cox plate, Caulfield Cup, Derby and Melb cup all good results.

Bookies were slaughtered on Derby Day. Tom Waterhouse dropped 2 million alone.

I thought they would have won enough in the derby to have a win for the day.

If he lost that on derby day he would have got most back on the cup. All the doubles they have they would have won a lot. Viewed would have been a huge result.

Oaks

1. Samantha Miss- Feels like dejavu, backing the hot favourite (whobe, mad rush, princess coup) but surely she will salute. Looks the class runner, should enjoy the step up in distance, if she ran third in the Cox in a race not run to suit thats good enough for me. Unders at 1.85 though imo.

2. Rocha- Big run last start and was still finding on the line. Should be thereabouts but not quite same class as Sam Miss

3. Estee- Like this horse. Trainer said it will be ridden back this start. Look for it to be powering home late.

Other best bets
Race 1 No 3-Tangos Amigos
Race 4 No 4-Olanana
Race 9 no 4- Magical pearl

Happy Punting

Lucky i didnt venture to Flemington yesterday would've only had the one winner i think...

only ended up putting Samantha Miss on in the morning...pretty happy with 1.90 i thought it was going to come into 1.60-1.70
Did it with ease.....
Interesting to see Bart Cummings two runner were both the fastest finishing...allev wonder (sp?) and think money...
Cup horses in a couple years?

Not many oaks winners ever do anything, even miss finland battled as a 4yo. Samantha Miss looks as good as her but anything can happen.

Estee cost 2.1 mill i think, not money well spent!

Yeah but Samantha Miss has that x factor and i think you will find will continue to improve...

With Estee you can forget she even ran. Was 3 or 4 wide the whole way around and just covered so much more ground than any other horse. I think she will be a good horse but just had no luck at all.
