Tac cup 2012

Don't forget Nathan Wright who was in the ais best on Thursday.

Stingrays appear to be under done. Most clubs have had 4 praccys. The rays have had 2. Got smashed in the middle yesterday and lost their structure up forward. I thought Shannon Lange was best on for gippy. For those who are looking for a couple of kpps, Deery was good and Morrison was stingrays best by a street.

Did the Stingrays worries about a lack of talls play a part Raymann? Most scoring seems to have been from running mids/small forwards.

Lets start this thread by predicting the ladder position for 2012?

1. Calder
2.
Dragons
3. Stingrays
4.
Knights
5. Falcons
6. Chargers
7. Power
8. Rangers

------------------------
9. Rebels
10. Jets
11. Pioneers
12. Bushrangers

Based on the weekends results, my ladder should be reversed. Great stuff by the country teams!!! and Sandy just moving along nicely...............Couldnt get to any games due to family commitments, any standout games, players????

Big win by Oakleigh over the Knights yesterday.

Luke McDonald is a genuine freak. Up there with Jack Martin and Tom Boyd as the best prospect for next year.

Eastern has officially taken over the mantle of 'Witch's hats' from the Pioneers of 2011. Aside from Boyd they are a shell of a team. Very sad to watch them at the moment.

I concur re McDonald. Those 2 goals on the run were pure talent. Roo's will be salivating in 2014 when he finally gets to play.

What odds for Vic Metro MVP for Luke?

Others got in before me, but agree with what's been said. McDonald was exceptional, Eastern were disastrous, and holy crap I had no idea Boyd was an underager. Nobody can go anywhere near him at the moment.

Went along to the double header at Pricefixer Park. Only saw half of the first game and three quarters of the second, and I'm writing this two days later from memory, so this is not a complete report obviously...

Sunny weather and no real wind advantage, which left no excuses despite a few teams who'll be looking around hard for one.

Got to the first game just before half time and the Knights had almost already kicked themselves out of it with 2.7 on the board to something like 7.5. Knights got their share of the ball with their big-bodied inside brigade, but Oakleigh were able to hurt them on the rebound with a superior skill level. Northern never managed to close the gap, scoring shots were pretty much even but the Chargers were just generally cleaner and a lot more likely to get full points when they got the ball in front of goals.

For Oakleigh, McDonald was exceptional in the 3rd, had the ball on a string and kicked a couple of really nice, lone-hand goals. Really well-rounded player.

Jay Kennedy kicked 3 and always looked like he was going to cut loose up forward, but he is just really skinny and his lack of body size hurt him against the big-bodied knights, just got bumped off the ball. Bone-skinny dark-skinned kid (indigenous I think?) who looked and moved like a young Lovett.

Macrae did a couple of jaw-dropping things but lacked a bit in consistency, and got a bit ahead of himself at times givingt away unnecessary frees and trying to do it all himself. I heard him compared to Stevie J and it's not far off. Will be a superstar if someone can get the best out of him on a regular basis.

Dylan Heath put in a staggering amount of work, but let himself down with footskills at times.

For the Knights, Conlon was wasted in the ruck most of the game. He's a kpf FFS, how about playing him there?

Bonaddio was quick, aggressive and dangerous around goals as usual, just a skilful, consistent, deadly little package. Wish he was three inches taller.

Jake Kalanj will be an exceptional inside mid next year. Already is a nice size, hits the ball and the body hard, knows how to squeeze out the handball into space. Very much one to watch for 2013.

Bolger presented well across CHF and made good position to be a target. Big kid. Not 100% sure he's draftable, from an athletic standpoint, though.

Vlastuin hardworking but not showy, spent a lot of time under packs. Showed a bit of leadership around the ground, his long 60m chases etc saved goals several times.

Not sure who #55 was but he was very good, quick little bloke and solid, got a lot of it.

And I forgot to look for Ben Lennon, dammit. Next time.

Second game got ugly. Sandringham were just plain superior, pretty much all over the ground. Eastern a very average side this year, will need to rely on Tom Boyd to kick huge bags every week. He's one of the very very few things to like about this side. No lack of endeavour from the ranges, they scrapped on hard until a purple patch in the third when Nathan Freeman carved them up through the middle scoring three running goals in about three minutes and Eastern cracked. Final margin 100 points, it was about 65 when I left.

Sandy an interesting side structured around a very deep and even midfield group rather than tall timber. Temay I liked a lot, cool-headed disciplined midfielder with very nice footskills, i was impressed with his ability to think his way through traffic. Changed deep in the backline.

Ong still looking like the same player I saw last year, frustrating type because he's got pace and can find the ball, and his hands are just lightning fast on the inside, but keeps getting burnt because of his lack of defensive intensity, poor blocking, and occasional seeming unwillingness to take a hit when required. Sure, he's skinny, but skinnier kids go in harder every week. Has the tools be be a star, needs to decide he wants it though. High risk high reward.

Tyquin a really workmanlike game, ran through the middle, not any particular eyecatching quality that I noticed but just did the job again and again and didn't really stuff it up, which is not a bad thing to have in your mids.

Max Hayes an underage utility/3rd fwd, built like a brick shithouse, made a few stuffups through over-enthusiasm or over-aggression but really had an impact on the game for a young bloke. One to watch.

Christian Salem was very good - strong-bodied and quick winger-mid who read the play well and showed some aggression. Underager but impressive.

Nathan Freeman ripped it apart in the third quarter, streaming through the centre, waltzing around opponents and dobbing goals from 50. Pace, agility, judgement, and finishing. Extraordinarily eye-catching play, I'll have to watch him closer next time round to see what he's like when he's not playing party tricks.

For Eastern it was the Boyd show again. Had poor delivery and was triple and quadruple-teamed a lot of the time, but his hands are just so strong and you'd back him from 50 out on an angle almost every time. Pure footballer, though pace will be the question at the next level, but he was a pleasure to watch in this game. Kicked 5, singlehandedly held the ranges together.

Ben Cavarra worked hard, hit hard, generally acted (and looked) like budget edition Dion Prestia.

Jacob Zboril did some good things as a medium sized deep forward later in the game, Boyd was getting sat on by the entire Dragons backline and Zboril was able to help Boyd out and break up the mob a bit by getting dangerous himself. Didn't kick any himself, but set up some shots etc.

Brandon wood did some good things and worked very hard, but was under huge pressure all the time (was obviously targeted for some close marking) and under the circumstances couldn't seem to get damaging.

He's averaging 27 touches a game, I'd say the chances are high, one of the form midfielders in the competition, and he's bottom age, pure class inside/outside player.

Will slot into our side so beautifully off half back and then through the middle.

Any regular Stingrays watchers on here? Apparently Jordan Bastinac (brother of Ryan) is making his debut for them this week. Any reports on how he goes would be appreciated :thumbsu:

Incorrect.

Stringer kicked 9.7

His stats were incorrectly uploaded after the game. His kicking was pretty ordinary, played really well, but should have kicked at least 12

Saw a bit of the Eastern/North Ballarat game today. Scrappy, uninspiring spectable that Eastern were never, ever going to have a shot at winning (real chance to go through winless imho). Wanted to check out the Tom Boyd vs Tanner Smith matchup in the Ranges fws line, but delivery (and the Ranges capacity to enter the 50) was so dire that Boyd never really got a run at it and was reduced to kick chasing up in the centre somewhere. Left at 3/4 time and don't regret it.

First time I'd seen the Rebels this year. I was very impressed with Michael Close, big mobile kpf type who marked strongly and kicked well, not too shabby off the ground either. Ended up with 5 and was a really clean, decisive focal point in a muddled contest.

Tony Lockyer is listed at 185cm and 98kg, yikes if true. Played 3rd tall defender, shifted into the centre on occasion, and was very good. Safe, clean, got a lot of it. Overager.

Tyler Blake showed a few tricks off the hbf, needs to get more of the ball but is still an underager. Liked his disposal by foot.

Tanner Smith had a lot of help from his midfield, from Lockyer and from Tim McKenzie in dealing with Boyd, but still kept him goalless and even when the ball came in, was generally able to just get the finger in when Boyd went for his big trademark contested marks. Took the honours comfortably.

For Eastern, pretty grim with Boyd subdued. I know it's convenient for me to see them play cos Box Hill Oval is so close to my place, but it's just so depressing atm that it's worth the drive to watch someone else. Ben Cavarra was almost the only Eastern player to win his position. Hardworking and with a bit of pace, solid body, tackles well and can score a goal. Small, but good effort from him.

Mitch O'Donnell got a lot of the ball in the tough stuff in the middle, won a fair few clearances, but just burnt it too often by foot.

Matthew Little provided some run and carry and a bit of pace.

Liam Riley is one to watch for next year, played back and in the middle and did ok in both positions, kept Jake Neade (who is vastly faster and very dangerous) under control with smarts and strategic use of superior bodyweight. Did alright with ball in hand too.

Great win by the Pioneers yesterday won by 100 points. Great to see them doing well this year. New coach is great and with the BSSC offering the Pioneers program things are looking better and better.
Stringer is an absolute monster in the forward line and just dominated all day. Knights tried everything to stop him but he was just to good.
Isaiah Miller was good off the half back line creating a bit of run and Ben Lester was again solid as full back not getting beaten once all day.
Wines was good out of the midfield after coming back from AIS.
The whole team has strengthened by Stringer and Wines coming back. They lacked they dominate key forward to kick it in to but now he is down there kicked a lot of goals.
They scored the same in the first quarter as the did in the whole game against Geelong Falcons.
Things are looking up for the Pioneers and they will be fighting for a chance to play finals football for sure this year. The big test is against Calder next week up in Moama.

Named in the best and kicked a couple of goals in a good win over the Jets.

Luke McDonald didn't play this week.

I disagree about this part. The Knights did absolutely nothing to stop him. At no stage did they put their best defender on him, they didn't double team him and nobody helped out his opponent. It was awful to watch.

Also, feel free to put any TAC Cup match/player reports in this thread too. It will get more attention by being on the main board, as the average punter might not set foot in this sub-board.

Problem for the Knights was their backline pushed up to help the half back line and centre line which generally left Stringer one out. The midfield pressure from Wines, Heavyside, Clyne and company was too much. Haven't seen a Bendigo midfield perform like that in a long time.

Watched bushies v Calder today. Ordinary game truth be told except for calders fab four. Daniher was exceptional orourke and plowman very very good and mcbean shows much promise. Those four blokes are all top 15 players in talent with plowman my pick to go highest. Two other players who have afl qualities for mine are Brett from the bushies and dick from Calder. I am interested to hear about northern they are not playing to their potential.

Their best 6-8 players were all back playing school footy, just like the Chargers. I think about 12 of the Chargers best 22 didn't play vs Bendigo.

Eastern are a basket case. Atleast Boyd might get some decent delivery and a sense of team playing for Metro alongside Joe Daniher this year. That duo will give some teams alot of heartache trying to match those two in the air.

The Knights still had 2 AIS players playing against the Pioneers people need to start giving them a bit more credit.

I'm not taking anything away from BP I'm just answering a question about the Knights. Those 2 you mention have hardly been setting the world on fire in 2012. Corr has hardly touched the footy in 2012.

Full credit to BP. It is about time they started to win some games. Not since Walker and Sylvia have they been any good.

Agreed. Vlastuin, Bonaddio, Conlon, Kalanj are a pretty decent core to a side (though my sympathy will be limited if they keep wasting Conlon in the ruck rather than playing him as a kpf like nature intended), and guys like Gilmore, Turner, Corr are handy to have around as well.

Knights were missing a few (Haynes, Hrovat, Lennon especially), but a 16 goal spanking is still a 16 goal spanking. Pios were always going to be better this year with Wines and Stringer as 18yos after gun underage years, add a seemingly better-organised admin and they might actually be a good side.

Bet they'd love to have Knox and Valentine available, but que sera sera...

Theres still a chance that Knox might come back from square but Valentine is playing VFL footy and don't see him coming back unlike Knox who is only playing BFL.
