'sYeah - Falcons played intra club U/17 and U/18(19's) games in W'bool today (combined Hampden & Glg leagues). Still have to cut from apprx 80 today back to 50 or so after next Sunday's similar intra praccy games.

bottom agers Christiansen, Cunnington & Bartlett all played ok - these guys currently in Vic training squad for 18's. Edwards, Ibbs, McKenzie, Grabowski, Gavin, Darmody and Howarth showed form as well. I reckon pretty good 80 to be pickin from - tuff cuts to come.

not familiar with 18's (19's) really to make call on these guys

Jets vs. Knights @ Vic Park 12pm and 2pm this Saturday. I might pop down for the first one but I probably won't be able to hang around for the second.

Falcons playing only one intra cluB practice match in Warrnambool again this Sunday 12 noon - have cut from squads in both Geelong and Hampden already. Final team announced following game.

Cannons V Oakleigh at Vic Park on Sunday. Pretty sure 11.00 and 1.00pm
Will try and pop down to check them out.

Full list for the weekend below, may check one out myself but its still early days for the squads, I assume most clubs are still making list cuts.

Northern Knights v Western Jets Victoria Park Saturday 12.00pm & 2.00pm

Bendigo Pioneers v North Ballarat Rebels St. Arnaud Sunday 11.00am & 1.00pm
Oakleigh Chargers v Calder Cannons Victoria Park Sunday 12.00pm & 2.00pm
Gippsland Power v Sandringham Dragons Casey Fields Sunday 12.30pm & 2.30pm
Geelong Falcons Intra Club Sth Warrnambool Sunday 11.00am 1.00pm
Murray Bushrangers Intra Club Benalla FG Sunday 12.00pm & 2.00pm

I'm going to Kilsyth Friday night- not listed but Eastern are playing an Intra-Club at 5.30pm.

Whats the go with the two times? Is that start and finish or they playing two small games?
Might go to the Power game in Casey.

At this time of year a lot of clubs won't have cut their squad down so they have enough players for two practice matches.

Eastern Intra- Club.

Of the notable players- Sloane didn't play, 3 AIS boys- Shiells, Griffiths & Blease didn't play, wither did Gysberts.

19yr olds will serve them well, Renton looks stronger and tap ruckwork is amazing. Lofthouse a srong quick leading forward with good hands.

Cunningham good in the Centre- ran hard and kicked long. Barnes was great early on the Wing.

The quality very much looks in the bottom age group.

Comprehensive win to the Jets in the main game yesterday against the Knights. I had it as 16.23 to 6.3 but scoring isn't one of my strong points (and Im sure someone will correct me) Was very impressed with the Jets - probably the most cohesive type performance I'd ever seen from them. Got a few tanks who will provide tough targets up forward, and a decent mix of little fellas. How many draftees they have may be another story. Very much early days though and I doubt the Knights would be too concerned, just good to test a few players and give others a hit out.

Early game was full of fresh faces and I assume mostly bottom age kids. It was dominated by Western early, I suspect they had a good lead at half time but the Knights rallied a bit and put in a pretty good second half. Not sure who wouldve won that one. I didnt keep score.

Northern appeared to rest a lot of players (guys that they'd already penciled in as making the squad I assume), whereas the Jets seemed pretty much at full strength. Although after quarter time, it seemed that their better players didn't get a whole lot of gametime.

Dropped in and had a look at the Bushies intra squad game today. 20 players are already in and it was 23 a side with the best 25 going through to make a total squad of 45, so a big cut to come with plenty for the selectors to think about.

I'll probably forget a few but I think Hurley, Zaharakis, Hill, Smith-Whiting and Hood all missed off the top of my head. I'm sure there'd be plenty of others I can't think of right now.

Yeah you're right they did rest a few macca. Hurley and Zaharakis probably the main ones who you mentioned. Add Paynter who played every game for them last year. Dylan Grimes was another U16 from last year who didnt play. Limited time on field for Stanton and Power.

Western seemed to have more familar faces from last year playing, but they did have a good chunk of fresh faces out there as well. As a team they looked relatively sharp when it came to team play and skill - regardless of the strength of the two sides.

pretty evan for the first half, okleigh ran away with it in the last quater, im pretty sure okleigh had a whole side playing, maybe would of been hand having joyce, german, white and melksham on the field, plus mckernan and trengove played a half, didn't see them in the second half, practice matches give us a look, i think the real season will show a lot more and a lot of a different story

First cannons game was pretty sad and I think majority of these boys may face the chop. Good effort by Scott & Bebbington may see them get thru. Daniher was ok in ruck and Hicks had one good passage of play which may also see them get in.

Second game saw a fairly even 1st half. McKernan was standout. McKernan & Trengove only play 1/2 a game if that. Noticable absences from German, Talia & Joyce will certainly make a difference.

In my opinion Duhau would have been best for cannons also good performances by Hayes & Dove.
