Whose gonna be our tagger next year

Jackson seems to get destroyed by some blokes but do ok on others but im not sure i see him as our number 1 tagger does have massive endurance but often hunts the footy and gets out smarted out the back of the pack, Nothing more annoying than watching a bloke niggle and scrag his tagger while the umpire holds the footy but once its bounced is nowhere near him.

Johnson has done a very good job but in the twilight of his career might be more suited to playing a different more natural role, johnson is a very good ball winner tagging isnt his natural game but he has been forced to do it as we havent had much else ... eg. Chris "Goodes Ended My Career" Hyde

i would not be at all suprised to see one of the blokes new to the club put in that role to begin with

Hislop and Thomson
both known for loving the hard stuff
both very good in traffic
both better by hand than foot
both meant to have had poor attitudes at previous clubs what better way to challenge urself than playing on the games best

the other name that springs to mind is Coglahn who was used in a negating role (while he had OP well done danny) for a few games and did quite well
i remember him towelling up adam goodes actually
but i think cogs can just concentrate on actually getting onto the field first
a natural ball winner a natural talent and an exceptional reader of the game if he can get back close to 100% would be a waste as a tagger

any other ideas?

Tuck will tag again in 2009. He is excellent at it and still does everything else too.

Never waste Tuck as a tagger. He tagged the first 7 rounds of 2008 and was wasted. He averaged 30 touches after about round 7 when he wasn't tagging. We are robbed of our best clearance midfielder by playing Tuck as a tagger. Polo and Jacko must be the future taggers

My sentiments exactly.
Especially Jacko; taggers don't need to have elite skills to be good at it, as shown by Kirk. Jacko has the heart lf Kirk, so hopefully he can become half the player!

johnson does a great jon on Hodge and Judd and should be used the same way this year in those games.

Jackson does well on Black but needs to step up a bit on others.

I'd like to see Polo be used more this way. I think if he is given enough oppertunity (consistant games) he'll take the next step.

dont care who tags as long as we change it up and have damaging taggers instead of pure negative taggers. We will never be comptetive in the top flight if we have 17 or 16 players on the field. Because if they **** up, i.e. the tag doesnt stick, then you are left with a team with 18 on the field playing against team with 17 and 1 clown chasing air. ;)

Tuck tagged all year, well went head to head with whoever Jacko/Hyde didn't take and beat them all the time while still racking up the touches/clearances.

Nah, Jacko and Johnson did most of the tagging after maybe the Swans game. Tuck was averaging about 15 touches in the first 1/3 of the season when he was doing a fair bit of tagging, but the next 2/3 he averaged 30 touches. He's too important to use as a tagger when he is in the top 3 clearance players in the league when he doesn't tag. Jacko is still improving. Give him time . I wanna see Polo tag. He's great 1 on 1. I reckon Polo is the type of tagger who would usually get more touches than his opponent

I think Schulz could be used as a tagger. How he would be good tagger is he likes the hard stuff,He has decent skills,he will put the team first a head of himself. This is maybe his last chance to impress or other wise we could think about delisting him.

Or the other option could be Hislop who has the the skills and the endouver which could be good move in his career.

Tuck's the man.

Is very effective at stopping his man while also picking up alot of possesion's himself.

I also reckon Jake King could play the role

Would like Coughlan but not sure if he has the fitness or pace now. Wouldn't mind seeing Cotch on the better midfielders for education.

give the ranga first crack (Yes Jackson)

then if that fails use Tuck

and if that fails use cothcin in a head to head battle to see who is the more productive/ rather than a direct tagger

I hope you are taking the piss because there are so many things wrong with the idea of schulz as a tagger.
