AJ is not your usual tagger. He often stands off his opponent and backs his leg speed and ability to read the play to catch his opponent and hammer them into the turf. AJ has a heap of talent. if he wasn't so good at his job, he'd be in the midfield or up forward. :)

I think next season he is going to get a promotion into the midfield. It's good we have some handy/good players on our list now.

i've said it many times before but im sick and tired of the ablett v judd comparison, any realist would say that these two players at their best are very hard to seperate and are easily the two best in the competition, ablett seems to struggling with form a bit but i just dunno why every1 questions him, atm all we can say is we are grateful we have juddy cos he's a true leader and inspiration to the rest of his team

As much as I love Judd....that article is a pile of crap.

It comes off the back of one of Judd's best games against us.....and one of Abletts worst.

You could make a case for Simpson being better than Ablett and Bartel based on Friday night, but we all know how it pans out over 22 weeks.

Reactionary media...........unable to look ahead with any logic, and all too quick to forget what has gone before.

I'll bet he was surprised Port lost too.

Mike Sheahan would have to be one of the most reactionary journos there is. His opinion on everything changes by the week.

That said, while it isn't as bad as what he is suggesting, you'd like Ablett to be more direct with the football. Judd is always so attacking and direct with the football - when everyone else is chipping it around in defence, Judd gets it and runs straight up the middle, trying to create.

Another problem with Ablett is he seems to have become content to get a sideways/short pass rather in the defensive half of the ground rather than make himself dangerous at times. Bartel is the same, as is Swan and even Gibbs (though he doesn't receive much attention just yet) tends to do it.

It's why you see taggers peel of Ablett when he's next to the ball carrier - you'd much rather he got the ball there and then try to force him sideways than have him be in a more dangerous position working hard for a disposal. Looks good on the stat sheet but in reality the tally is flattering.

Judd very rarely if ever does this and as such on a possession vs. possession basis (if that makes sense), he is more damaging than just about any midfielder in the game.

I know it'd be a mammoth and near impossible task but I'd love a video compilation of Judd's touches over the course of the a few rounds or season and compare it with the game's other elite midfielders.

Someone else said this article is just another rehash from last season?

BLUEBEAR this article was so true.
Gary Ablett is a star, but he is such a whining little girl. He cries to the umpires every 2nd week. Did you see Judd crying at all to the umpires when he was getting tagged very hard against C. Ling? No you didnt, Judd is a champion, Gary is a girl and Mike knows it.

judd is more damaging with his possessions
ablett is a great player, but the media pump him up too much

mike was my neighbour a few years ago, great bloke, very enthusiastic chap, bit like a kid on rasberry cordial, gets carried away with his praise of the stars

Look to be fair to Mike, he was one of those very few journos who thought we were punished unfairly and too excess by the AFL, and he has never resorted to 'taking cheap shots' at the club or it's culture or spreading unfounded rumours or gossip about the club like Fatprick Smith, or she-hag Caro.

He only really criticizes the club for on-field peformances (and we did deserve a bake after the Collingwood game, make no mistake)

I honestly believe Mike has a soft spot for the Blues (he has actually written more 'complimentary' articles in his Monday review column then any other club this year i believe) and sometimes he writes weird things, but I don't think anyone could ever accuse him of having an anti-Carlton agenda ..

One of the better print journos going around IMHO.
