We seem to have been trying develop an Adam Goodes style player, though in reality, all of our options lack the class that her obviously has. Our best options seem to be;

M Johnson; Tall, cool, good skills and not quite as good defensively as he needs to be to be a KP backman. Does not sound like he is going to make it in the midfield.

Mundy; Similar, plus an aversion for the hard stuff.

Bradley; Never been a fan, but this is surely his best option for our team, as the 3rd forward role he may have played is covered by better options in Murphy and Campbell.

Gilmore; Has improved due to an extended stint in the ruck, and is currently our best option. Will be very interesting to see how is used.

Drum; Seems out of favour for this role now, although it seemed to be where CC was looking for him to play.

The other thing that all of thse players have in common is that they have not nailed down another position for us.

Oh for a Stephen Michael.Goodes is the nearest thing to the TI as I have seen, but is still a long way off being that good.
The only come along once in a long time.

Gilmore worked out fairly well last year.

Only because he was playing as a ruckman, which if all goes to plan he won't have to do this year.

It's much more likely that your mate Dessie will be a consistent midfielder for us this year than Gilmore, and he's what, an inch shorter? Better pace, better tackler, better kick, stronger body.

Johnson seems to have the most potential in our team almost, its like he is just a small click away from stepping out of being a good player to being a star. When he has shone, he is one of our only players who can truly influence a game IMO. Love watching him when he is up and flying.

Have a good feeling about Des this year in that attacking midfield role he seems born to play... Just need to put Mcmanus' heart into him

I love MJ, but no matter how much he clicks in the midfield I can't see him even getting close to being the match winning midfielder that Headland could be.

Dessie has so much potential that it makes me want to scream. There's more raw (and polished) talent hiding away in that body of his than 99% of AFL players can even dream of.

I'll probably get shot down for this, but I think if Dessie can finally click he would be even more valuable to our team than Pav.
