Tambling.

Persistence with Tambling will pay off big time in a couple of years. You can see there's a gun midfielder there just under the surface. has all the tools.

The tools are all there but I just wish he would display them. But we were told from day one to wait til season 5 and 6.

Great observation... I totally agree.

Tambling is a burst type player, who is able to turna game quickly with his exciting run an skill.
There aren't many players out there now who look as damaging as Tambling when he is on the run, or has exploded out of a pack with the ball.
He also has great hands, can mark strongly and rarely wastes a possession.

Considering the pressure he's been under, he's developing brilliantly. He could very well be our next Maurice Rioli.

Well done to TW and the development staff for investing the effort and gametime into such a talented player - it's just a matter of time berfore it yields significient results :thumbsu:

Got to the stage where he isnt even in your best 22.....we would not draft him and as a supporter I would not want him at our club. Lovett Murray is a much better player then Tambling. You know it too.

Why not try Richie in the Cyril Rioli/Aaron Davey role up forward for a couple of weeks to see how that goes....his speed is frightening and the capacity to keep the ball in the forward line is gold these days.

I'm confident Richie will be a fine player but I just don't know which position??

The way he's been playing it is likely to be on the receiving side of doggy style but he could go cowgirl or give it if played on a wing with a license to do whatever the fkuck comes natural.

NLM - 189 cm 89 Kg
RT - 179 cm 78 Kg

Very different type of player.

Stats

RT Disp 12.91 Goals .7 Marks 4.3 tackles 2.48
NLM Disp 14.25 Goals .56 Marks 4.15 tackles 2.00

So RT is 10 cm shorter and 11 kg lighter but averages more marks, goals and tackles than NLM.. NLM ahead on disps by 1.3.

maybe RT is not as bad as you think

Oh also NLM is 25 RT is 21 .

On those figures I'll take RT thanks.

Tambling has been given a lot of opportunities in the middle this year and just simply has not come on as well as hoped. He just seems to not have the instincts that Foley and Cotchin do for getting the hard ball consistently.

I think he should be given a spell at Coburg to get some confidence back then see off the season. He may well not be up to playing in the midfield, and I think he should be played off the half back flank so he is given some accountability and a better chance to get the footy. He did this very well against Melbourne.

I'm a supporter but Tambling should be dropped. He needs to earn a game instead of being given one. He should spend a month dominating for Coburg before he gets another look in. Everyone else has to. He should have been dropped after the Carlton game, he was pathetic. It won't kill him to have to earn his stripes, in fact it will be good for him. Put him in the guts for Coburg and leave him there until he gets 25+ touches 4 weeks in a row.

Agree with this. Im also a fan and dont want to get rid of him but like what was shown to Bowden, Tivers and Petts - go back to coburg, put in the hard yards, demand to be selected. At the moment, he seems to be just plugging along.

He seems to be a definate confidence player at the moment, when we are dominating he steps up, i.e Freo and West Coast games.
I think we all agree he has all the right tools to be a star but I don't think that the self belief is there. He needs to be out there playing to gain the belief that he belongs out there, which will come with time however and this is where I agree, he can't be given a free ride forever.

What are you talking about freezer, Tambling was amongst our worst for the WC game.

Geez he wasnt bad, he had an okay game just looked worse because everyone else had rippers, did some clever things just needed to find more of the ball. Doesnt help that he seems to cope a lot of poor delivery his way by hand and foot.

He does lose his feet to often so probably needs to work on core and leg strength over summer.

One thing i have noticed over the last 4 or 5 weeks is he seems to be released in the last quarter. Im think wallace may have him in a run with type role for 3 quarters then release him in the last.

It was the perfect opportunity to have a blinder, with such a pitful opposition. Tambling fumbled and fell over too much, and simply didn't do enough for someone as experienced as him.

Sure he did a few good things, but that is Richard Tambling in a nutshell.

I agree he needs to build his core strength so he can stand up in tackles and make his tackles stick, and build up his aerobic strength so he can run all game. He started footy with a very undeveloped body and still has a couple of years developing to go. Maybe till he does that he could be used a bit like Aker was early on at the Lions - keep him fairly fresh then throw him in the middle in the last 5 minutes of each quarter when all the other midfielders are tiring. Was part of the reason the Lions were always good at getting a couple of goals in red time when they were at their best.

Although I do agree with Mario in the op. Tambling was very good on Davey against the Dees, so I'm surprised he hasn't lined up in the back pocket or flank since. He is one of the best decision makers in the team once he actually has the ball in his hands and giving him some time up back will teach him how to get hold of it more often in a game. I know he was tried in the back pocket a couple of times in his first couple of years, but he has improved a lot since then and its worth another go. Waste of time having players of his class getting easy kicks at Coburg.

I dont think he needs to be dropped keeping his feet is something that comes with confidence this is true but I think being dropped would slap his morale hard just look at JON for example. He needs to be given a different role and needs a real go at it he seems to be used as a bit player I say put him in the forward pocket tell him start your leads from deep and run hard and keep it in best you can.
