I'm still not sure about the tanking idea. While we're still a mathematical chance for the finals, I daresay we need to go for it, because I'd rather we finish in the eight and a have a chance than finish somewhere in limbo and have to pray that we pick up some gun kid in the draft - who more than likely will take a few years to really come good anyway.

Finals are strange, and anything can happen, so while we have a chance I think we need to go for it. If worst comes to worst and we're no chance at all, then of course we just need to play the youngsters and see what happens.

can someone name the last team to finish 7th or 8th and win the cup?
i dont want to make up the numbers the fact is the crows showed us were not in thier league. we got pumped. it was humiliating and i will not take any pride in beating essendon for the simple fact that there perthetic. freo is not a consistent team and it wasnt a signigicant win. and the way i see it is well win against week openents and lose against good ones. well end up missing out and that will be that.
as for the age old argument one player wont change your team. and using carlton as an excuse. well kennedy isnt playing and murphy is a gun and if they werent in such a talentless team they would contribute. dale tom has been doing alright at collingwood and he has decent players on board. and the thing is we do have some stars and lots of average players that work well as a team. but we havent been playing for each other in a long while.
and by the way this draft pool is soo strong getting a top 6 pick will probably be like getting a number one pick. aswell as hawkins. well we should be smiling shouldnt we.
we pick up another KPP and hawkins that will help us plenty and a classy midfielder should b available for our second round pick. im not saying lose on purpose, we should just give youngsters a chance to shine.

If this is the problem, the idea of getting a higher draft pick isn't going to solve it. I agree with what you are saying to an extent, but the fact is we do have a strong team on paper as it is now, we saw it at the end of last year. Simply adding a good youngster isn't going to fix this problem. I agree that high picks would definately help in the long run, but this draft is so deep we can add talent with a pick around 9-12, and Hawkins and our second rounder. The mindset and confidence of many of the players is clearly not right (obvious statement, i know) but this is a matter for coaches to address, and not a reason for us throw away any chance we still have of making the eight, because when the mindset is right and confidence up, the team how it is now is more than capable of playing decent football.

that is true my friend but what im trying to address is our seriouse lack of super star players, aswell as understanding that our window of oportunity to win a premiership is closing fast.... by getting more younger and better talent into the club we prelong our chances of winning it... lets face it there not getting any better, alot are coming into 27-29 age bracket and we have the other age bracket from the 2001-2003 playing and soon they will become the experienced bunch... but whats to become of the 2004-2005 kids? theres no sign... no pulse... and we need the 2006 draft to resolve alot of our future problems.
im looking to stay playing finals for 5-6 years not 2-3years and then we have a crappy recession where we dont pick up quality picks but just average picks.
everyone is thinking hawkins=future star
what if we droped to 12th we could pick up gummby and what do you know hes also a future star and we might have something that resembells the rewalt kozitski partnership
by the way when i mean star i mean just that... not an average player but someone who can make a vast difference...
we can use our second and 4rth and 5th and 6th etc picks on more quantative players.
seriously mate its only one year of hurting thats a hell of a lot better then 40 odd years wouldnt you agree? its a crappy cycle were in.... and we need out. sure one early pick wont change anything but itll also mean we get an early second round pick and an early 4rth round.....it makes our selections alot stronger.
imagine if we had the 2001 draft where we picked up jimmy, kelly, gazza and co all over again... but this time we would be looking at picking up a step higher maybe a judd or hodge instead of having to settle for jimmy. do you see where im coming from?
by the way look at how west coast are doing on the back of a chris judd (they start falling over without him) look at how good brissy is when brown is playing...they actually put a few away. and thats my point my friends. we have a team mentality but we lost it... we need to find that again... aswell as recruit some seriouse tallent.
and listen mate ur not the only one whose got a membership... i paid up and im fine with them tanking... i wouldnt mind watching a game where they blood some youngsters.. but i dont wana watch crap like getting beaten 90+ when we have our strongest team out there do you understand me?

That's all well and good, but we aren't going to bomb out deliberately.

Therefore, every point in there is useless.
