I heard Michaelangelo Rucci on 5AA this morning, and amongst other things the topic drifted around to Brent Guerra.

Rucci made it clear that the pending departure of Guerra from Port had nothing to do with football ability. He said that it was related to off-field issues - don't know what, but I'm sure that the Crows would know and won't be pursuing him even if he did want to stay in Adelaide.

Stephen Trigg was on a bit later, and he kept his cards very close to his chest. There were two things that I found reassuring though.

One was that they wouldn't be judging the season a success on whether we made the top 4 or not - which indicates that we won't be going for the quick fix.

The second was that we will be playing some of the younger brigade on a regular basis next year.

He said that they have now completed the player review on an individual basis and were part way through seeing how each one fits into season 2004 and beyond, if at all.

As for the delistings etc, he said that Adelaide won't be announcing any delisting until the trade week is over - a strategy which I agree with. To announce players as potential trades/delists can only devalue the players' worth

Good post Macca.

I think Hentscel has improved his standing after today. Bock should have held onto a few more marks too.

In regards to anouncing delistings, I think you are right. I also think they are looking at trading some popular second tier players (ie Bode, Doughty) and are keeping it quiet to avoid publicity.

I hope we dont go for the quick fix!

I heard both interviews as well macca23.

Was surprised regarding Guerra. He certainly can play but if there are off field issues better off without him.

I liked what I heard from Trigg but then again its probably a calm before the storm.

He did say that we need to inject some youth into the group and add a bit of pace. He said next year will not be a rebuilding year, he reffered to it as a refurbishing year;)

I also agree about not disclosing delistings until after the trade period. Just devalues the players that might be delisted or traded.

I just hope that we give youngsters a fair crack at it next year

Would we be interested in Jordon McMahon from Bulldogs??????

I reckon he could be a handy addition. He is still only 20 and would add some much needed pace to our side. I can see him developing into a very good HBF that provides a lot of run from defence. Likes to carry the ball and was taken in the top 10 in the draft.

Could Perrie land us a ruckman like Cox??????

Thoughts??????

Personally not interested in McMahon.

Cox would be a good pickup as still young. Reckon the Eagles would want more than Perrie though.

Not a bad little player Stiffy, but not what we really need. Keep the focus, my friend!! ;)

Repeat after me

Key Forward
Key Backman
Marking Ruckman

That's better Stiffy!!! ;) now - moving right along

If we can't get those don't bother, trade up into the draft.

Perrie has to be used as trade bait for the 2 WA clubs while he has the value. Draft picks can be used to balance up if necessary.

The only players of interest from the Eagles could possibly be either Cox or Seaby.

From Freo it has to be Croad.

Fellas if we are getting rid off Bickley(retired), Bode, Gallagher, Doughty and possibly Ladhams, you have got to replace them with a similar sort. Its for the balance of the list. Thats 4, possibly 5 running players that we will lose. U can add Nelson to that list.

We will get 3-4 picks in the draft at most. I think 2 of those will be used on a KPP and a ruckman.

I am aware of our needs but we also need to keep the list balanced;)

We won't get rid of 4 or 5 of them Stiffy.

Firstly Nelson hasn't played a game this year, so he doesn't count.

Doughty and Gallagher barely count as 1. They were rarely in the side, and I doubt if they were ever in the side together.

Bickley's retired, that's one.

If we trade Bode we won't trade Ladhams and vice versa.

Of our best 22 that only means 2 gone.

Reilly, Johncock and Schuback will move into the mid-field next year, so I think our stocks in that department are okay.

Of course they count macca23. Whether they played or not doesn't mean a thing when you look the overall balance of your list. We cannot have more that half the list that are KPP/Ruckman type players.

We can sacrifice say 1-2 of our running players for a KPP/Ruckman type but overall we still need to have balance.

Whether they played a game or not doesn't matter at the end of the day

IMO, Stiffy our balance of the squad was out this year - too many midfielders at the expense of ruckmen & KPP's.

We are likely to lose 1-2 midfielders + 1 for Bicks retirement. Reilly will offset 1 of those, so we probably need to draft another. Much will also depend on who we trade & dellist.

At least two and probably three of Bode, Ladhams, Doughty and Gallagher will be on our list next year.

We'll probably pick up a couple of midfielders in the draft. Skippy will be promoted off the rookie list.

I agree with macca23 - MacMahon is a handy type but not a priority.

I think the overall balance of our list this year has been OK. We lacked another ruckman and had a midfielder more than we probably should have. So next year we should have same number of KPP and 4 ruckman. The rest should be the utility and midfielder types.

So overall our list balance was OK.

I never said McMahon should be a priority but if he was there for the taking and wouldn't cost much why not go for it??????

If we could get him for Doughty I would do it in a second;)

generally good kick and great pace, but scared of a contest because of his size (or lack of). Would be very good pick up, depending on his cost. Methinks Dogs would be after more than AFC should pay though

I have heard that he has not signed with Doggies as he is contemplating coming back home. If we could get him for say Doughty, I would do it.
