Nah, trade while his price is up. There will never be a better time to get a return from Freo., particularly if they have a disappointing year and want to load up for a tilt at the flag having already made their bed with Tarrant ad Solomon deals. Send him West with Davis for draft upgrade. He is still too slow. Bottom line is we have to get quicker. His skills are good in a poorly skilled side which is a positive for his selection but at the end of the day we have to offload some slow and some poorly skilled players or else we will not win a premiership.

PS, I believe the above is realitic. That said Lockyer has been very good this year and at his best is a good link player. That's not what we need though and that is why we delisted Woewodin.

Trade him to the Dockers for a first round pick. Davis and our second round pick for the Wet Toast first round pick, leaving Collingwood 3 first round picks. That's a scenario that would be beneficial for all concerned.

Sure but it is a pipe dream. Maybe Tarkyn, Davis and our second pick for Freo’s first round pick but I doubt it. That is something I would jump at though, particularly if Freo miss the 8 and land a top 8 pick.

Why do we have to trade him to Freo? I'm sure if he keeps his form up many other clubs would be interested too.
We don’t it is just that he is a former SANFL Freo boy and they may be a club looking for another link player and a top up for a flag tilt. He number of clubs interested in Lockyer wouldn’t be huge though. He isn’t young, he isn’t quick and he isn’t hard. He has limitations. Been excellent this year which possibly ups his price. It would be nice to trade a player near peak price for once.

He's been sensational. Exceeded my expectations by a long long way. Unlike other long term non performers like Lonie and Davis, at least Tarks has had injury as an excuse.

I cant see the point of trading him when finally he's nearing the form he showed prior to his reco. You dont just get rid of somebody because their price has gone up, just like you dont keep them because their price has gone down. You look at what they can contribute to the team and whether they are worth keeping.

Our young midfield will soon lose Buckley Burns and Licuria. We need some senior players out there to assist Pendlebury and Thomas etc, and players like O'Bree Holland and Lockyer will be important leaders, if not superstars, in our transition phase.

I think WCE would be much more interested in Davis than Freo would be, they need a crumber, they're even putting Wirrpanda forward, let's face it Sampi is no good and Armstrong is handy at best. Davis might not be the greatest player, but he would make the WCE team better IMO. It's very early to start making calls like this but I'd rather shop Lockyer to Freo and Davis to WCE and get individual trades, or work out some sort of 3 way trade.

Although giving away Lockyer may set us back more than we think, Licuria, Burns, Wakelin and maybe Buckley will be gone by next year and we don't have anyone at the next age and experience bracket apart from Lockyer, Holland and O'Bree. We'd want to get at least a reasonably high 2nd round draft pick, depending on whether his form holds up or improves maybe even more.

Too many slow and poorly skilled players. I say we exit 2 slow and 2 poorly skilled. I’ll allow a 2 for one. It’s either that or we remain too slow and poorly skilled. I’d rather be too young to win a flag than too ordinary. It is much easier to get older than better. Tarkyn fits the slow category and he’s a bit soft to boot. O’Bree fits the poorly skilled category and slots nicely in the slow so there’s your 2 for 1. Still need at least 1 more poorly skilled.

R. Shaw and Johnson get by on pace and guts in spite of skill deficiencies so they must stay. Holland is a standout at nothing but proficient at virtually everything. Lonie is possibly our best kick after Buckley. Davis is a candidate. He has speed without doubt but he just can’t get the ball often enough and when the heat is on he melts. Davies must be right on the chopping block. Nichols hasn’t done himself any favours but he’s young.

Look we have to do something. I can handle losing games next year because we are plying too many kids and picking up the draft picks along the way. I can’t handle being mediocre and persisting with what we have already tired and failed with. Lockyer is a link player. You can find them on any street corner waiting for a bus.

Mark T you can't ignore Lockyer's improvement this year ....so far... in his defencies. He seems to be hard at the ball and even quicker.

Jabso actually you can.

Agree wholeheartedly with the T re Tarks.

Classic example last game - desperately need a goal - last quarter.

Forty metres out - does not make the distance.

Watch him today - will look goood early - when game is there to be won - no tarks.

Having said that I will pay tribute to him as a bloke who got the best out of himself. Incredible really that a bloke of his size, lack of speed, skill etc could play so much senior footy....

Leading our Copeland Medal.

Not a single club would be interesting in him, gladly.

Because I want him at Collingwood, great, and I mean GREAT leadership skills on and off the field, a great club man and if he can play the next 5 years the way he has played the first 4 games on a consistent basis, why wouldnt you want a less eye-catching midfielder as Pendles, Thomas and Shaw show their flair and skills.

Not BOG today, but one of the best.

Showing very good consistency, and showing courage too.
I hope this is what can be expected of Lockyer week in week out for the remainder of his career.

Because hes back if its true, very good player.

Probably going to win our Copeland if he continues playing like this!

I have to admit I had him in the waste bin but this year he's been a revelation. I put it too you the "old" Tarks would have let McPhee blow by him but today he was nailed. Does anyone one have an explanation for this new hardness? Maybe Brad Scott needs to take some credit because the tackling is back (it's not just Tarks) and in a big way.

i've actually never seen tarks as a squib, just never been strong enough to make his courage stick.
i dont know why the change has come about, but, i think what has made him more valuable and a better contributor is that instead of getting the ball and looking back or sideways for an outlet pass he seems to be backing himself and wheeling forward at every opportnity.

i contest that it is not only foot speed that contributes to quickness, but speed of thought as well. if you dont hesitate you look a damn sight faster.

How awesome was it when he intercepted Kepler's pass kicked a goal and dumped Kepler a man around 20cms taller than him to the ground.

AWESOME! I was like WAY 2 GO TARKS!! I like this guy so i hope he keeps playing well, its enjoyable to watch!

He would be leading the Copeland right now i reckon, H.Shaw or him anyway!!

Not really sure u trade away ur best player for a second round draft pick that may turn out to be a dud, people seem to think that every single player drafted will be awesome, not many even make the grade let alone would be as good as lockyer is playing this year

Suppose we should have traded Didak at the end of 06 coz his value was high, he cant really do any more then AA and Copeland Trophy.......so get rid of him for a draft pick when he is at peak value??

4th quarter... game there to be won... Kepler Bradley holds the ball in the left back pocket... chips across goal... TARKS!!!!

I almost hit the roof of the great southern stand (but that was largely due to my shitty tickets)

He was playing like this before the knee op 4 years ago, maybe it has taken this long to get the confidence back mentally
