Anyone got or heard this yet?
Apart from being a very cool name for his band, this album has really suprised me. Its bloody good!
For those that dont know, Taylor is the drummer for the Foo Fighters. While i reckon he is the perfect drummer for that band, what this album does showcase amongst other things is how much more he has to offer than what the Foos stuff allows him. His playing on this is exceptional (not to mention featuring a 1000 times better drum sound than they've ever been able to pull on any of the Foos stuff). He really stretches out in some moments and never sounds out of his depth.
But more so, his songwriting is suprisingly strong and his lyrics are pretty simple and basic yet still personable enough to give you something to think about. It can be slightly scattered and he's not exactly trying to write to a specific genre, but theres definitely a classic rock theme running through it with healthy dose melody and more than a hint of prog dipping its hat to the likes of The Eagles, Cream Pink Floyd, and the more proggy Genisis stuff without ever coming across as embarrasingly derivative. Its more just a good fun album.
And his singing is great! He doesnt try for anything ridiculous, but it still hits the mark in every tune.
I dig it!
