Great topic!!

As you and others can see, my fave albums are olf old ye times. So naturally I gravitate.

This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home

And I, left my scarf there at your sister's house
And you've still got it in your drawer even now

Remember watching the video for the first time and seeing the scarf. There was an audible gasp in the room, as the oxygen was forced harshly out and into our lungs.

Losing him was blue, like I'd never known
Missing him was dark gray, all alone

Really uses colour metaphors to evoke emotion. And when you sing it, you feel it.

You got that James Dean daydream look in your eye
And I got that red lip classic thing that you like

Rain came pouring down
When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe

From a Reddit thread on the phenomenon that overtook Melbourne last weekend:

I arrived in Melbourne on Friday night and left Tuesday morning for a weekend of music. (Mudvayne, The Butterfly Effect, and QOTSA for those playing at home) The city was thumping. People absolutely everywhere, 'the era's tour' t-shirts as far as the eye could see, sequin dresses on every second woman or girl..

You might think that I, a rock/metal head would have felt disdain towards these folks, but at the end of the day, I'm a muso. After mudvaynes gig on Saturday, I had to walk my broken body, sweaty and smelling of spilled beer back across the city to my hotel. There was a group of swifties walking home after their experience and they were absolutely buzzing off of it, much like I was after my preferred gig. We had a conversation about music, and what it does for us, why we love it, why we travel around the country for it.

That conversation is one of my highlights of the weekend. Music brings people together and creates joy and memories. The media coverage has been insane I agree, but as someone that doesn't actively watch TV or listen to radio, it's been pretty easy to ignore. Her effect on my favourite city was impossible to ignore though, and I loved every minute of it. Her music does nothing for me, but she can fill the city with extremely happy punters anytime she likes!

Personally I don't give a toss about Travis Kelce or the NFL, before they dated I couldn't pick him out from a line up, much less tell you what position and team he played for. So the whole Travis-watch for him arriving in Sydney is bizarre to me. But the celebrity of Taylor Swift is at absolute stratospheric levels.

It's basically the media trying to cash on anything Taylor Swift related. If they could interview her cat they would.

Deadset, Sabrina Carpenter is almost dominating the socials as much as Taylor.

Whoever said she slapped, you weren’t wrong - we got there for her performance and she was fantastic.

I finished listening to Speak Now not long ago and I’m aiming to have that one posted tomorrow evening after work. Also aiming to get through another two albums over the weekend. Red and 1989.

Bad was the blood of the song in the cab
On your first trip to LA

Cold was the steel of my axe to grind
For the boys who broke my heart
Now I send their babies presents

Rebekah gave up on the Rhode Island set, forever
Flew in all her Bitch Pack friends from the city

Holiday House sat quietly on that beach
Free of women with madness, their men and bad habits
And then it was bought by me

(The story of Dynasty is magnificent)

We never painted by the numbers, baby
But we were making it count

Fighting with him was like trying to solve a crossword
And realizing there's no right answer

Walkin' through a crowd, the village is aglow
Kaleidoscope of loud heartbeats under coats

1989 first I think six tracks are nuts.

1989 first I think six tracks are nuts.

1. Welcome to New York
2. Blank Space
3. Style
4. Out of the Woods
5. All You Had To Do Was Stay
6. Shake It Off

I think AYHTDWS is not that strong but that opening trio is unmatched.

And talking of unmatched, the story-telling in The Last Great American Dynasty is indeed magnificent. And the imagery of Invisible String.

Yeah 5 is the weak one there, but those others are brilliant.

Yes, do you know the story behind it? Yep imagery is superb.

Rebekah Harkness, controversial socialite that previously owned one of Swift's houses in Rhode Island who got her fortune when her oil wealth husband died. I think it is universally acclaimed as one of the best songs from her entire catalogue, not just the album.

That and invisible string are two of the reasons why I just love that album so much. It's my answer when they ask what's my favourite.

Haha, yes, I know. Pretty cool stuff.

This article gives a great rundown of it - if you're interested

No team loses so there is no anger factor or arrogant factor .
Most of crowd cant drink or wont drink alcohol .
No need to drown your sorrows

Speak for yourself, I was hoping for the debut album era to be part of the concert and glassed a campaigner because I didn't hear Teardrops on my Guitar as a secret song.

My rankings are N/A considering I kinda jumped off the bandwagon at the time of 1989's release. I appreciate her style evolving, but ashamedly I haven't been as "into" that ERA and beyond.

Reputation/Folklore/Lover/Evermore etc couldn't be more different - yet for me those "ERA's" blend in - I'd probably know the tracks once I hear them.....but reading the song titles - they don't jump out at me (Principal Skinner vibes ?? :P).

My biased ranking

1. Fearless
2. Taylor Swift
3. Red
4. Speak Now
5. 1989
6. Lover
7. Midnights
8. Folklore
9. Evermore
10. Reputation - My Seinfeld gets out of seat moment lol

Wouldn't even really know where to start with the Taylor's Version list

I thought Fearless and Speak Now were good, but outside of a few songs Red/1989 felt more like a chore than "fun"

I havent heard of her till the concert. I think she rocked. Engaging and positive. Also beautiful on the inside.

ohhhh listening to invisible string right now

Have august on heavy rotation today, such a beautiful song

The one friendship bracelet I have left is 'august'. From the wikipedia article:

"August" featured on lists of the best songs of 2020 by publications including Rolling Stone (No. 5),[53] the Chicago Tribune (unranked),[54] and Yahoo! (unranked).[55] Complex's Edwin Ortiz ranked it second on his year-end list.[56] In Vulture's list ranking all songs in Swift's discography, Jones wrote about "August": "Even in fiction, Swift's ability to capture the wistful ache of nostalgia remains unmatched."[57] Sheffield picked it among the best five songs of Swift's discography: " 'August' feels like such a simple tune, yet it's one of the craftiest creations in the Swiftian Multiverse."[15] Insider's Callie Ahlgrim named "August" as The Best Song of 2020.[58]

Rolling Stone ranking it top 5 of all songs in 2020 is a major accomplishment, not sure how many other Taylor Swift songs can make that claim. The writing (particularly the famous bridge) and production (especially that outro) is top notch.

Speak Now (2010)

Three albums in now and one thing is clear, Taylor is one incredible songwriter and storyteller. The maturity and growth shown in the three albums over 4 years in fantastic. The country sounds continue, but as with Fearless I feel it’s starting to become more pop/international which I know is to continue into the future.

Mine and Back To December were both really fantastic choices to use as singles to promote the album and get the album off to a really strong start, Sparks Fly wasn’t to bad but missed the mark a little for me. Speak Now which serves as the albums title track has a beautiful backing track that I found myself really enjoying. Dear John which I’m presuming is about American sing John Mayer is one of my favourite songs so far, but then again I’ve always liked those post break up type songs. The banjo backing for Mean is quite addictive, with the sing a long nature of the chorus, particular towards the end make this my favourite song from Speak Now so far.

I can recall hearing The Story Of Us before because as soon as I started I knew exactly what it was, even if I didn’t know all the words. It’s one I really enjoyed and seven songs in this is shaping up to be her strongest album yet. Never Grow Up is another I can remember hearing, but I know that’s from friends using is as the music in the social media montage of their children, it’s a cute pleasant song but one I don’t really feel a connection with. Enchanted was another that I’m sure I’d heard before because that chorus was familiar. It’s also starting to make me think that’ve I’ve heard plenty more of Taylor’s songs then I actually think I have. Anyway, back on Enchanted I really enjoyed it, more than I thought I would. Better Than Revenge had the break up pop-punk style to it and whilst it’s not my favourite it does add to the quality of this album. Innocent is I think the first song that just kind of passed me by on the album and didn’t leave much of an impression, whilst Haunted sounded like something that Evanescence could’ve released.

The remaining tracks on both the standard and deluxe editions of the albums were all decent but none really stood out to me. Of the three albums so far Speak Now is has been my favourite.

Singles I liked: Mine, Back To December, Mean, The Story Of Us
Album Tracks I liked: Speak Now, Dear John, Enchanted, Haunted
