Taylor Walker Dropped...

Sigh.

Some people never understand the modern game or at least see what actually happens with "roles" on the field, let alone leave room for the game to pass them by.

Never more apparent than on this board.

Alright, if you know so much about the modern game then, please fill me in and inform me of what is so incorrect about that post I made?? I really don't think many here would disagree that is the way we have been using Walker and Burton... Burton has clearly taken Walker's spot in the structure of the side. How has it really happened then Mr. Expert of modern football??

I actually emailed the club regarding this, and I actually got a reply!! doesn't really say much, but I'll post it here anyway:

Standard response. Almost word for word for what Phil Harper said on AA Thursday night.

Sounded like he was saying it was a case of horses for courses. Does that mean he will come back next week? Bet not.

personally Taylor Walker probably doesn't fit into the Crows structure?

I'd love to see him in say a Hawthorn or Geelong forward line even perhaps a St Kilda.

Sad but true. I think it’s in his best interest to seriously look at a trade to fulfil his potential.

Walker definitely has stuff to work on - but the SANFL isn't the place; and dropping him for a bullshit reason isn't helpful to anybody.

Yes ...yes ...and Yes !!!!!!

We know he can play SANFL ... he needs to learn AFL .... take the pressure off him, especially now as the year is basically shot to shit anyhow ....play him EVERY week.... in the godadamn friggin' bloody goal square and get Burton out. Heard the other day Cornes and Rowe talking about Rowe being ion Modra's space ...apparently Cornes also threw a ball at Maynard coz he wouldn't get out Modra's way. i know ...I know Walker is no Modra ..... but still!

If Burton flies for one more grab, gets two hands on it, drops it and then rolls on the ground while the opposition pick the ball up - I swear ... ...well...I just swear!!!!!

Lack of current form and toughness/smarts and kicking ability is b*llsh*t ? Blow me down mate, you have interesting criteria.

You'd rather us lose games whilst your emotional favourite works on deficiencies ?

Go away. SANFL IS the time-honoured and appropriate place. Glad you're not in the box.

Your reading comprehension is as bad as some of the crap you post.

He wasn't dropped because of a lack of current form, toughness and smarts (and definitely not kicking ability); he was dropped due to being too slow match-up wise - which I don't believe, hence me calling that reason bullshit.

Speaking as someone who watched Tex play as he was growing up would do a trade in a heartbeat to get him to the Cattery the kid knows how to play just needs to be played in his correct position and left there to learn the trade in that spot at this level.
What NC is doing to him is just dumb how do you learn how to play to an AFL standard kicking bag's for Norwood?
At 0-5 the finals are gone just plug Tex into FF send Burton back to WWT and thank him for his service at the end of the year, Burton is not going to be in your next Premiership side whereas Walker is every chance to be if he is willing to stick around after how he has been treated by NC

You make excellent points, shame our coach is still in the dark ages when it comes to list managment.

What makes it even worse is that with our current injury list, we don't even know to drop Burton to fit Walker in; just throw Walker onto the HFF or a Wing.

The problem is though that Neil Craig believes that in 2010 Burton is a better choice based on past history. Neil will continue though 2010 trying to stack our team full of senior player regardless of form hoping that it just magically clicks and we win a few games. He pretty much said so in the press conference last night.

Along the lines of "we will press on this season trying to do what we can to give us the best chance to win games of football". Reading between the lines he gave the impression that he doesnt agree with the concept of blooding youngsters and prefers to play what he considers to be his "best 22" irrespective of where we are on the ladder.

If we work on the magical 12 games makes the finals standard, assuming we win 2 of the next 3 that will mean we are 2-6 with 14 to play. Finals still mathematically within reach.

We'd need to then lose another five games to snuff out our finals chances, which takes us up to at least Round 13.

So that would be the earliest that we would pull the plug on this season and start playing the youngsters. Any game we pinch between Rounds 9-13 would obviously set that date back further.

I can see us improving our form and winning a few games. The door may not officially shut on our finals chances until quite late in the season but I'm not sure that is a good thing for us long term.

Even if we can't make the Finals Neil Craig will still play the elderly 5.

Another good post, Carl - you are in fine form.

I assume the bold part refers to the need to get players ready for 2011 and onwards?

I'm not too worried that the older players will be keeping out the youngsters that long. Remember we have Otten, Moran, Symes and Martin out LTI. They are already providing the room to blood youngsters, and in 2011 can be added to the mix of players blooded this year.

Otten and Davis in the same backline with Bock, Rutten and Johncock looks exciting.

Given how poor most of our other young developing midfielders are, they will have to try Otten in the midfield first and hope he makes a better fist of it.

In fact, I sincerely hope we don't see Otten in our back six again, otherwise it means he has stagnated in his development.

First I completely admit that this year has taken me by surprise. I tipped us for the finals and thought we'd give it a shake. The now urgent need to turnover and regenerate our list has Crows fans (including me) running scared, spouting a million different knee jerk reactions that we MUST do tomorrow.

Potentially we lose Doughty, Hentschel, Burton, Edwards and possibly Goodwin and McLeod as well at the end of this season. Even though their form has been up and down it is still a major slice of our team. More than a quarter.

If we splutter to life in the next few weeks, scramble a few wins here and there and find ourself the dreaded mathematical chance to still make the finals... potentially we miss out on half a season of development. The latter half of 2004 when finals were out the window and we tested the full depth of our list, chopped and changed every week and regathered ourselves for the following season paid big dividends. I think we need to do something similar in 2010.

If we lose those 6 blokes at season's end, I think it would be too difficult to go into Round 1 2011 with a group of players who had barely played together before and some having not played much at AFL level.

Jaensch, Sloane, Armstrong, Henderson, Walker, Davis, Cook, Young, McKernan and later in the season Brodie Martin will need some experience to carry into 2011 if they are going to be in line to replace the veterans. Not all of them every week, but they have to finish 2010 significantly ahead of where they started in their development. A doomed finals push that lasts up until Round 18 or later would have a detrimental effect IMO.

He already stated he was being prepared for more time in the middle this year - and he'll be a gun midfielder.

Danger is a freak, and a gamebreaker, but Otten is going to be a very, very good footballer.

Kinda think Danger = Roo, Otten = Goody.
