Essendon and Collingwood are trying to lure Adelaide Crows forward sensation Taylor Walker over the border to Victoria.

It is understood the Magpies had been monitoring Walker before he signed a contract extension with the Crows in June, while a source said the Bombers were prepared to "move heaven and Earth to get him".

Thoughts? Do we want/need him? What would we be willing to give up?

I personally can't see it occurring, the Crows won't trade such a good prospect imo, but I'd like to see us have a go. Walker is quality.

I'd imagine we'd have to give up our first pick and then some.

P.S. Mods, is my quoting of the article fine?

Would be a good get. Problem is, what to give up? I always find it hard suggesting pies players for trade, as I tend to get attached to them. I'd be happy to part with a first rounder for him.

Chances are pick 17 (:)) won't get you a better player than Walker. Considering our first pick is now going to be 14th at the very earliest, we'd need to chuck plenty more in. Not sure if we'd be willing to do it.

How about Didak?:D

Seriously though, i cant see any reason for Adelaide to trade Walker. That could have been Burton's last game or next year will be his final season and i think Walker will get much more game time for the Crows and we will rely on Walker a lot.

I reckon if the crows traded Walker there would be a 30 thousand man march to West Lakes to burn down AFC HQ. Walker would be at the front of the mob handing out flaming torches.

I thought this rumour might have had some legs, but looking at the fact it is from Fox Sports means it is just that a rumour.

We couldn't get him anyway, it would take a top 10 pick to grab him, plus a substantial contract offer which would put us in salary cap trouble for a few years.

No chance of him coming to Collingwood.

Haha, that'd be awesome.
Absolutely zero chance of it happening, but it is cool to think about anyway :)

I could certainly see Essendon throwing the kitchen sink at him, they are desperate for a forward. I doubt we'd go to the extents they would to grab him.

If he really wanted to leave, i'd be willing to give up Marty Clarke for him...and maybe add a 3rd rounder as a sweetner.

He is going to be a superstar

We'd have to throw the kitchen sink because the Pies have more to offer the Crows in a deal. Essendon's pick 10 doesn't look any more attractive than Collingwood's pick 14-17.

I reckon it could be a player swap that clinches the deal if it does happen.

What role would he fill for us? From what I've seen of him he's another JA type when we need a power forward goal square type. Fingers crossed Dawes fulfills that hole. We should be looking to fill the holes that we have rather than adding more of what we already have covered.

If I were the Bombers I'd definitely go for him. If Lovett is out of favour maybe you pair lovett up with a draft pick or draft pick improvement. Dunno. I wonder if we can shop Rusling around to attract a buyer willing to give us a decent trade.

It would take our first round selection.

It's a difficult decision for both Adelaide and Walker due to the Tippett situation.

Walkers a gun.

Will cost us our first round pick. Probably worth it considering we are after the best KPP in the draft this year and there are none available.

Don't even entertain a player for player swap.

Walker has been compared to Tony Modra by Adelaide fans. They rate him very very highly.

Walker is 192cm tall and was pick 75 in the 2007 draft. Don't know how he slipped so low if he was 'already on the radar' of Collingwood and Essendon.

I rate him highly, and I believe the Crows and their supporters rate him highly, he is a very good prospect. Still only a teenager as well and has showed signs in the games he's played this year, 23 goals in 14 matches is a good return for a key position player of his age and experience.

I reckon they'd be keen to hold on to him, though, especially with Burton getting older and them being faced with the prospect of perhaps losing Tippett, at the very least they'd want him as insurance. If they decide to let him go they'd be asking for a fair bit in return.

If we can get him, we should, but I don't think we have the bargaining power. Essendon would be better placed to nab him.

It's all pie in the sky anyway, I doubt he wants to leave.

He was a NSW scholarship player.

Several teams wanted him as a 15 year old, he refused several offers because he was an Adelaide fan his whole life and wanted to go nowhere else.

IMO absolutely no chance of him going anywhere, and talks of offering a first round draft pick are to be scoffed at.

I rate him a better prospect than Tippett when he gets a couple more years into him. Absolute freak in the Fevola mould without the bad attitude.

We nabbed him on the NSW scholarship thing. You guys + other clubs might be interested in him but we would never trade him. Him and Tippett up forward hopefully for years to come. Kicked 50+ goals in the SANFL as an 18 year old last year and kicked something like 22 goals in 11 games before going back to the SANFL and kicking another lazy 35 goals. The only reason he was dropped was that Craigy wanted to iron out the "laziness" in him and get him to apply more defensive pressure. With another pre-season in him I'm confident he can kick close to 50 goals if he plays all the games. Great win yesterday but no chance of getting a win out of this one ;). He's signed a contract til 2011 earlier this year and was a Crows supporter through and through.

Excellent talent and prospect, question marks around his second efforts and pressure, and also lacks a yard of pace. These reasons have been given as to why he has found himself back in the SANFL lately, but he is still very young, and apparently in the last few months has been working his butt off to improve in his deficient areas. Has amazing footy smarts and the ability to dodge and weave through a pack. Takes a good strong contested grab, and has a dead straight leg. He ain't goin nowhere though.
