obviously at the end of this year there is a need to go out and find ourselves a key goal kicking forward. at 20-21 and coming out of contract could taylor walker possibly be this person, still alot of development left in him. IMO is miles ahead of lachie henderson, give him a 3 or 4 year deal and he'll come in and have an immediate impact and eventaully develop into a gun forward. may be able to get him cheapish if he was willing to come considering he is playing magoos.

thoughts???

I read his name a lot and have seen a couple of games, but can you remind me what he has done that has put him miles in front of Henderson?

My initial thought was that your first sentence is wrong.

My second thought confirmed my first thought.

We have scored 70 more points with no key goal kicking forward than Brisbane who have 2 of the best key goal kicking forwards of the modern era.

Key forwards are overrated.

I wouldn't mind Taylor Walker but he certainly would not come cheapish and I certainly wouldn't be in favour of moving heaven and earth to get him.

Youngest player ever to kick 50 goals in the SANFL, one year out of playing in the bush.

Rising Star nomination last year, won a Goal of the Week as well last year. 5 goal game agains the reigning premier as well.

As southerntakeover said, won't come cheap.

My thoughts, why? We don't seem to have any problem kicking goals.
Waite can play forward, Hendo will get there, Casboult and Donaldson down the track, even Austin and maybe Hampson.

I don't see the need to go and get another KPF when we have plenty of our own, either ready to go or developing.

Walker is in a crappy position imo.

Neil Craig obviously doesn't want give him a decent shot up forward, yet if another team asked to trade for him, you can be certain they'd demand heaven and earth.

He could effectively be stuck in the snaffle for the next year or two.

Wrong if his available we should try getting him if he is any good.Henderson will be a backmen i bet more then a forward.Casboult and Donaldson are just rookies who may or may not get 10 games for the club.Austin still hasn't cemented a spot.I still feel we are 1 tall key short this is where Hendo can get a spot with Bower and Jamison there as big talls.Bower and Austin have injury concerns as well and Jamison.

So you're not happy with the goal scoring options we currently have or the number of goals we've scored this season so far?

Additionally how is my assessment of the threads question wrong when your whole counter argument is hypothetical.

+1 for my liking...

Our forward line structure now is good...

The only thing that we really need is a decent mid sized forward, ala Brad Pearce, but I think that Hoops with his defensive pressure is handling that role well.

In a couple of years, we will all be singing the praises of Hendo as he kicks the sealer in #17 after we destroy the opposition.

We are already seeing signs of how good we will be and we are still developing after years of neglect. How many people are bitching that we are missing Walker after years of scapegoating his arse?

All the pieces are in place on the field and in the coaching boxes... we just need more games into those pieces and I figure that this year and next are to get the games to round off our development build and then we are away.

I'm happy with it just be great to add another tall option that can play a decade for us.Ohailipin and Waite are near 30 that's all.You have to remember injuries will come to them.

I'm looking at the longer deal not short.Yeah his only 20 and has potential.Key Tall key Position players are like Gold these days.

Does he really add anything? He's not big enough to play the Setanta, Waite or Hendo role. He doesn't have the silky skills of Eddie, Yarran, Garlett or Houllihan. Andrew Walker completely thrashed him a few weeks ago. In that game his skills were sloppy, and he turned the ball over on numerous occasions. Is he a player with ability who has been poorly developed perhaps? Everyone wants to join the Blues, the issue is getting a sensible deal together that skewed heavily in our favour.

I'm actually liking the way our fowardline is coming together. Setanta and Waite are excellent talls and Hendo has huge potential. Our 3 smalls are outstanding, and Houllihan is always dangerous on the flank with his skills. There's a lot to look forward to already. Why not develop the talent we already have?

:)

So the day after we thrash the best team in the competition by 10 goals, your first thought is... we need to recruit a guy who is struggling to get a game for the team currently sitting 15th?

The best thing about our forward line currently is its speed. Along with Yarran, Betts and Garlett, we played two quick, agile talls last night - O'Hailpin and Waite. Both were fantastic last night in their ability to compete in the air, but more importantly to go again on the ground - tackling, chasing, and contesting for possession. We supplant this with other quick players - Murphy, Houlihan, etc. We are brutal in attack at the moment because of our speed - we can kick the ball long into space, knowing that if there is a footrace, there's a good chance we can get numbers first to the contest because all of our forwards are fast. This structure is working wonders - we have 8 players averaging over a goal per game. Our scoring last year was 103ppg. This year, its 103ppg.

The last thing we need is a big forward to slow us down. Fev last year was a huge problem for us up forward. The ball gravitated to him in the air, which made us predictable. When the ball hit the deck, he was useless when not kicking miracle goals. And Fev was one of the best big forwards around. A poor mans Fev would be the worst possible thing for our team imo.

You forgot lifelong Crows supporter. Carlton don't need him and Carlton won't get him.

If you think he isn't disappointed by the lack of game time at the moment, you are kidding yourself. Crows supporter or not, he wants to play AFL football, not SANFL.

The kid wants to play at the highest level, and if Adelaide can't offer that, don't be surprised if he moves on. Whether it's to Carlton, or us, or any other team, who knows. All I know is that good, young KP forwards are as rare as rocking horse shit, and Adelaide are doing themselves and Walker a dis-service by not playing him.
