Being a big Saints fan, I reckon I've got an excellent idea on which players are worth considering and which are not.
I reckon it might be a good idea if a supporter from each team does a run through. I'll start...

Saints

Nick Riewoldt: Get what u pay for. The only question is whether or not u can pick him up cheap after rd3. Historically he's a slow starter but if you want him, I'd go with him from the start... first full preseason in a while. Looks good.

Brendon Goddard & Lenny Hayes: Historical supercoach stars, don't rely on team mates to post high scores... both certainly worth considering pending who else you have. I'd certainly go Goddard in the backline, maybe better choices than Hayes at his price... sluggish pre-season too.

Nick Dal Santo & Leigh Montagna: Super players. I'm leaning towards skipping over both of them though purely because I don't know how Ball's departure will effect them. I doubt it will as he didn't play most of the 2nd half of the season but it's a risk i'd rather not take

Sam Fisher: Gilberts inclusion took a lot of points away from him. The word is he may be spending more time up forward or in the midfield... good enough enough to do it IMO but a major risk at his price.

Sam Gilbert: 1 sided... being corralled++. I'd miss.

Adam Schneider: Potentially a huge bargain. Looks to have improved his fitness base and has the kind of polish that makes him perfect for supercoach. I will watch him very closely over the next month.

David Armitage: Insane price... dunno how a guy that has played less than 5 games in 2 years can be worth over $400k. Huge risk at that price but locked into that midfield vacancy left by ball.

Ben McEvoy: IMO decent value for ruckman #3. Should take King's spot before the year is out

Jack Steven: A lot of hype all throughout the summer. Slight calf injury has put him back though. Will be after Milne's spot IMO

Rhys Stanley: potentially good value as 4th ruckman... looks very good but a long way away from regular games at this stage. Big smoky potential if he continues to improve

Alister Smith: Came from nowhere and looks good. Certainly good value at his price but pbly a few ahead of him atm

Peake, Dempster and Raph Clarke have the potenial to be big improvers but much safer options available at their respective prices.

Very Good Idea.

COLLINGWOOD

Dane Swan - Big price tag, but you get what you pay for, racks up possessions and his disposal is improving. Rarely gets tagged and even if he does, is pure gut running allows him to break free of opponents. Will average 120+ again this season. Is a captain option for those who risk not starting with Ablett

Scott Pendlebury - Personally i think he will be set for a huge year, barely wastes a a possession, has improved every year. If it wasn't for trying to play with a fractured leg, would have averaged close to 120.

Heath Shaw - Looks like he will rotate through the midfield this year, should see his numbers increase, wins the contested ball and reads the play well, allows him to mark oppositions kicks coming into the backline which scores well in SC.

Leon Davis - I'd stay away from him, massive price tag. Will score a 160 one week, then 70 or less for the next 2-3 weeks, another 150, then a 65. Too much of a rollercoaster and can cost you when you need him most.

SMOKIES

Luke Ball - An interesting stat about Luke Ball is that he averages a point a for every minute he is on the ground. Expect him to play 90 odd minutes each week, and if its 90 points you want from a 3rd or 4th midfield, than Ball is your man. Personally i think he is a little overpriced, with Cooney only $27K more. But more than half of his possession's are contested and is a clearance specialist. Will a new club and more game time get Luke Ball back to his form of 3 years ago when he averaged over 100, only time will tell.

Harry O'Brien - Has been popping up in a few posts on Big Footy. Has bulked up and looks to have gotten quicker. Can turn the ball over, but will improve on his average this year rebounding off half back.

Travis Cloke - If only he could kick straight, will this be the year he breaks out and lives up to his potential. Takes alot of contested marks which are SC gold points wise. Looks like he has increased his tank for those second and third efforts. Could average 90+ or could average 70 again. He's a risk, but thats what SC is all about.

Paul Medhurst - His ankle injury restricted Medhurst to about 60% of what he is capable of in 2009. Has had a great pre season, Gets his points through goal assits and inside 50's with pin point accuracy kicks around his body. Scored 111 against the saints in the NAB cup and at a tasty price of $320K, could be quite a handy cash cow to upgrade to Riewoldt/O'Keefe/Pavlich later in the season.

Hope this helps guys..
Good Luck :thumbsu:

Hawthorn

Mitchell & Sewell: You get what you pay for, low standard deviation and regular 100+ scores. I can't see a lot of improvement though.

Hodge: Must have imho. Played injured last season and was tagged out of the backline. Huge improvement in numbers expected with more time in the midfield and Hawthorn's strengthened backline.

Burgoyne: At his best is a $550K player. An absolute bargain if his body is right. Has resumed full training and may make an appearance by the last official practice match game. If he plays significant gametime by the fourth practice match game then get on, he will be close to the bargain of the year.

Ladson: Another bargain in the making. Gets a discount for his injury last year. Has played well in the preseason, looks to be over his injuries. I doubt that you will get 22 games out of him, but seems too cheap to ignore.

Bailey: Mid season upgrade, possibly for Warnock. Is progressing nicely with yet another knee reco. The club love him and will be given every opportunity to impress in the second half of the year.

Skipper: Wasn't terrible in his NAB cup appearance, but I try to look more more than "not terrible" when deciding my SC team.

Taylor and Renouf: With Robert Campbell gone, these two should have significantly more gametime. Renouf still has a lot of natural improvement in him. I think there are better options out there but it might be worth keeping an eye on their preseason stats.

Gibson: Not for mine, although the preseason will tell. I would assume that Gibson will have more of a lock down role this year, his high disposal efficiency shouldn't be ignored, but I do not see much improvement in him. Great get for the Hawks, but not for your SC team.

Shiels: Looking for a cheap mid who will get a ton of clearances, no tag and reasonable disposal efficiency ?? Liam Shiels may be your man. Whether he can break into the Hawks midfield is another matter though. Shiels scored an impressive 93 SC points in the Richmond NAB cup game, given that Shiels only needs 53 points a round to break even he could be a great cash cow.

Shoenmakers: Awkward price @ $190K: He will probably play 22 games so you won't lose money on him. Vast natural improvement along with a change in role to being 3rd tall defender should see a massive increase in stats and consequently SC scores. His price means that he is too expensive to sit on the bench (unless as a MPP SuperSub), and I am not sure that historically KPP size 19 yr old defenders have done very well at SC. Mind you, with a 35 point break even, he will be a terrific cash cow.

Ellis: The word is that he is over the injuries that plagued him in 2009. Break out year predicted. Certainly has the potential to be an "Elite" defender, with Hodge spending more time in the middle, Ellis could easily slot into the "QB" role and pick up the easy ball. Is also quite capable of playing midfield, but the Hawthorn midfield is getting very crowded.

Brilliant idea!

Geelong:

Gary Ablett: Freakshow. Yes he’s expensive, but as a captain he’s good for about 300 every single week. Your choice whether you take him, but personally I can’t ignore him. The same debates were raging last year about whether to have him or not and those who didn’t take him got completely burnt. Not much more needs to be said about him.

Joel Selwood: Gets the job done. Every year he has consistently improved and don’t be surprised if he manages to improve again this year and get his average up to 120+. Perfect for supercoach IMO because he gets so much hard ball and lots of free kicks for. Also, never really cops a tag due to the other midfielders down at the cattery in G.Ablett, J.Bartel, J.Corey. Not only scores consistently over 100 but is capable of massive scores over 150.

Joel Corey: Had surgery on his foot and is likely to miss the start of the season. If he only misses the first one or two games he is definitely worth consideration. Super super consistent and underrated. Also, not many sides this year seem to have him so could be a bit of a unique pick.

Brad Ottens: if injury free should average 80+. IF! Big man. Wins the taps. Mobile around the ground. Goes up forward and is capable of kicking goals. First round last year he notched up a lazy 170 odd and then the next week was looking good again until that knee injury. We know he can play. Coming back from knee injuries is usually about slowly making progress. But if you’re considering Hille, then you surely have to consider big Otto too.

Marcus Drum: A unique pick. Geelong were absolutely pumped when they got him. Was top round draft pick a few years ago and from all reports is loving Geelong much more than Freo (who wouldn’t). Should fill Tommy Harleys spot at CHB/HBF. Capable of taking big marks in defence, which is solid points in supercoach. However he will likely be a key position defender rather than a run and carry defender, so keep that in mind if considering him.

Stevie Johnson: Bit of a rollercoaster, particularly last year. Seems to be back to his 2007/2008 form again, running freely, kicking goals and pushing up the ground and getting plenty of it. Killed it in the intraclub match. Looks to be slightly more consistent but there always seems to be the odd match where he scores 30 or so which personally does my head in.

James Podsiadly: Not entirely sold on big Pods ability to get a game. I know Mooney was talking him up saying he’ll get plenty of games but I just don’t know if the 3 big forwards will work. But I could well be wrong, and if he was ever to make the step up in AFL this year would be the one to do it. If he does play I’d say he will get plenty of opportunities to kick goals. Will get quality delivery and the second or third defender from each club. He is clearly capable of kicking big bags of goals which he has proven for years and years in the VFL which could mean a sky rocket in price which would make for a perfect cash cow.

Richmond

BEST BUYS;

Dustin Martin:
For obvious reasons. Will slot straight into a midfield role and at only $169,200, is probably the safest pick of the midfield cash cows at this stage. Absolute stone cold certainty.

Chris Newman: Historically has always been a good SuperCoach pick, so not many reasons to suggest he wont be this year. Gets plenty of footy, kicks long and has a good disposal efficiency. Good chance to play midfield this year, so his numbers may even increase.

SMOKIES;

Graham Polak:
Will slot in at full forward this year. Great set of hands means alot of marks, whilst key forwards can be erratic, and he may not score well when Richmond are losing, simply being the number 1 target in a team can increase a players score. Did some damage playing at full forward before his injury and is nice and cheap.

Trent Cotchin: Will start in the midfield for Richmond every week. Is only 300k but questions remain over his body. Has scored well with two limited pre-season's and is all class on the field. However, dont pick him unless he is named for Round 1. Keep an eye on his fitness and form over the course of the NAB Cup.

Troy Simmonds: Will be the number 1 ruck for sure this year. Whilst his stocks dived last year, he is very cheap and has proven in the past he can be a good SuperCoach ruckman. Depends on how his body is looking over the NAB Cup. Also look to see what role Hardwick utilizes him in. If he is aloud to run around the ground and kick goals, he may be a good pick. However, he may also simply be used as a stop gap ruckman, and pulled off the ground regularly.

AVOID;

Jordan McMahon:
Not that many people would be stupid enough to pick him. But for anybody thinking McMahon has to click this year, change your thinking. Will struggle for games this year under a new regime, and should be delisted at the end of the year.

Shane Tuck: Normally a gun, but looks like his time is up with Hardwick looking to play kids. Probably wont get much game time and is far too expensive to have sitting on your bench when he isnt picked.

:thumbsu:

I'll give it a go:

Robert Murphy: A very quality who player who takes a lot of marks and usually a high effectiveness with possessions. Very injury prone but has berley missed a beat this pre season. At under $330,000 he would be a very good who could be a keeper or a cash cow.

Andrejs Everitt: A big risk but if he breaks into the side round 1 could be one of the pickups of the year. His biggest problem is he doesn't have a set position. Keep watching his NAB games form, he has a point to prove.

Daniel Cross: Is expensive but you know exactly what you get with him. Lowest score last year was 77 and I can't see it being any different this year. Doesn't score you the the big 100's but is as consisent as ever. Had a minor set back in his pre season but looked very good in NAB cup rd 1.

Matthew Boyd: Very similar to Cross but is capable of bigger scores but also but the lower scores. Put him or Cross in and you won't be disappointed

Shaun Higgins: Is fairly priced, I can't see him improving much on his average last year but hopefully he can improve his injuries. Consider

Tom Williams: Avoid. Tempting price but you just can't rely on his body and won't score big even if fit. Eade drafting Markovic tells me he has lost a little confidence in Tommy

Daniel Giansiracusa: Has had a awesome pre season and is a proven scorer. I would go with Gia over Higgins personally.

Callan Ward: Defiantly consider. Is a hard nut with great skills and can score big. Had a patch last year were he was producing very poor scores then later on in the season had a patch that produced very good scores. Is risky but I'd go Masten at this price

Adam Cooney: Lock him in. Had a great pre season and an awesome last 6 weeks last year. Won't be this cheap for a long while.

Barry Hall: I'm probably biased on this one but I think he'll be a very good pickup for the dogs and ur SC team. Had an ankle clean up at the start of the year and has been looking very fit since. Could be used to upgrade later in the year to a premium.

Jarrod Harbrow: Turned the corner last year in a position change and was vital to the dogs. Plays very simular to Gilbee but has more speed and is tougher. Id go Harbrow over Gilbee this year

Brodie Moles: Watch him closely. If he keeps impressing in the NAB cup he has to be a big chance to play early. With Howard looking like being sidelined for a while there is a spot for him. Eagleton has had an interrupted pre season and is getting older so Moles could take his place during the season, it could be early so watch with interest.

Jordan Roughead: With big Will still sidelined Roughy is next in line. He is ahead of Cordy and will get a game sometime in the season. Mino is planning to play in rd 3 of the NAB games, but with pretty much no preseason he'll struggle to get up Rd 1 so Roughy is a huge chance

I'll give it a crack!

Jonathan Brown - May run down the ground a bit more this year. Also tends to be a slow starter, but is still pretty damn consistent.

Simon Black/Luke Power - Both getting on in age - better value elsewhere.

Daniel Rich - As a 2nd year player, isn't as likely to improve from last year. Great player, but jump on board from 2011 onwards.

Brendan Fevola - Off the 2 games played so far, looks to be the on and off sort of player from the Carlton days. Up to the player to decide if 495k is good value, or if you want to wait for a price drop and bring him in later.

Jared Brennan - Less rucking, more midfield and clearance work this year, which should translate well to the SC game. Does run hot and cold however

Josh Drummond - Obviously injury is a concern, but he played more games last year than any other, and due to a 0 from injury, there's a good argument that he's actually under-priced. One of the better picks from the Brisbane camp.

Tom Rockliff - Has been lighting up the NAB Cup. In form like this, is a massive chance for round 1. Keep an eye on him.

Jamie Charman - is probably injured, meaning...

Matt Leuenberger - ....will now be a lock for the best 22 if so. If so, should serve as an excellent cash cow, and possibly even a keeper.

Mitch Clark - I'd imagine he'd be back to a roaming ruckman role if Charman's injury is bad. If you think he can hold up form this year, he could possibly be underpriced - since the opening part of his season was weaker. One to think about.

Jed Adcock - Back to defence full time this year, but he tends to score well there. At 450kish, worth considering for a mid-range defender.

Joel Patfull - Rumours he could be playing more of a rebounding defender role this year, if so, could be an absolute steal. Keep on watching.

Daniel Merrett - Not a strong scorer as a shutdown defender. Look elsewhere.

Brent Staker - Horrible in first round of NAB, didn't play Carlton. Keep watching for developments.

Andrew Raines - Perenial SC tease, but played well against Carlton. One to eye off.

Matt Maguire - 25 touches against Carlton today. I don't know if he will replicate that week in week out, but it's very encouraging. Well worth a bench spot at this point.

Ashley McGrath - Strung together some awesome games in the back half of 2009. At 388k, a very, very good cheaper exotic pick.

Justin Sherman - Seems to be continuing his path from last year - not sure if he'll fly up in score or price, but a solid pick.

come on, we can do better than 7 teams...

still looking for the Crows, Blues, Bombers, Dockers, Demons, Roos, Power, Eagles, Swans
