Fall Out Boy

With the upcoming games being against the minnows, should we rotate our squad?

On one hand, you don't want to mess with the chemistry of a winning team, but on the other hand, you want to give others a chance.

Personally, i'd make three changes for the next few games.

I'd bring in Jimmy Maher, Ian Harvey and Andy Bichel, whilst resting Gilchrist, Symonds and McGrath.

Jimmy Maher can easily take the keepers gloves, whilst Bichel can bowl first change, with Lee and Gilly taking the new cherry.

I would also change the batting lineup, to allow a few guys (Boof and Bevan) a much needed hit.

My batting lineup would be:

Lehmann
Martyn
Maher
Bevan
Harvey
Hogg
Ponting
Hayden
Lee
Bichel
Gillespie

I would hate to get to the super sixes, or the finals, and have to bring in a player who hasn't had a hit for 3-4 weeks. Also, these changes would give guys like Harvey and Maher another opportunity to push for a permanent position in the team.

Thoughts?

On McGrath - if we rest him, we run the risk of his fitness dropping off more, but if we don't rest him, we run the risk of McGrath tiring too early.

Tough choice.

Lehmann
Martyn
Ponting
Bevan
Symonds
Maher (WK)
Harvey
Hogg
Lee
Bichel
Gillespie

Rest Hayden, Gilchrist and McGrath, and give Martyn, Lehmann and Bevan a chance to find form.

No resting.
Hone our killer instincts on the minnows.

Keep the momentum going I say! - maybe just one change if rotation is an issue - then give Bichel a bowl. dzm

unless any of the players have any small injuries I would keep the team the same.

i would however move gilly, hyden and pointing down the order to give some of the other guys go with the bat.

And P&P, Symonds being rested  He's had one good innings, but now we are all ready resting him?

Symonds has had some decent time at crease, unlike the majority of his teammates.

As i mentioned earlier, guys like Boof, Martyn, Maher and Bevan need to spend some time in the middle.

The last thing we want going into the super sixes is three or four guys who have hardly had a sniff.

Boof was in terrific form in the leadup matches. Bevan had the entire Australian summer to hit form, giving him time at the crease isn't going to achieve anything but cure thousands of Australian's insomnia.

Martyn is always hit or miss even in form, especially early on, with his lack of desire to hit straight. Maher, well, if he is a vital part of the order we are in trouble anyway.

I would think about dropping Hayden and Ponting down the order. Gilchrist still isnt timing the ball and needs some work, so he would still open. I'd probably open with Martyn to at least give the other teams the impression that MArtyn can bat, even if it is against the minnows.

Symonds I would play up the order, probably at 3, simply because we need to make the most of his new found confidence. Lehmann I would bat at 4, or no later than 5, where he should always bat. Bevan I would send home, but if I had to play him it would be at 7, not wasting as many balls trying to stay not out that way.

I would rest Gillespie, bowl Lee because he needs all the work he can get, and really gets injured anyway. Bichel would come in.

In later minnow games I would rotate probably 1 player (or max 2) per game.

Wholesale changes for the first game when we have games against zim, holland and namibia to come isnt reasonable.

Darren Lehmann, on 3AW, has just said that he expects both the team, and the batting order to be rotated.

Looks like Harvey, Maher and Bichel will get at least one opportunity next week.

He also said that the players have been talking of three possible replacements for Shane Warne.

He mentioned Hauritz, MacGill and White.

I think we should rotate our squad but only against Holland and Namibia. We need to make sure our players are fit and ready to go come the super six stage but we don't want to muck around too much with the line up which is in form at the moment.

Therefore, I'm in favour of direct swaps... Harvey for Symonds or Hogg, Bichel for McGrath or Gillespie and Maher for either Hayden or Gilchrist. I wouldn't change the batting order at all, just direct swaps in these games to give our players a rest.
