Hey all,

Just saw a post (thanks Beev) which got me wondering... How much have teams really changed over the year? Where have the changes been made? How many blokes have you stuck with throughout the year? Will you stick with the same strategy next year? How does your starting team & ending team reflect your final position. Did you trade your way to glory or did your starting superstars all end up with injuries and suspensions?

All questions I'm asking myself coming to the end of my first year.

Anyway, here's my starting & ending teams:

My team at Round 1
B: Goddard, Hodge, Enright, Malceski, Waters, Hunt, Kennelly
(Maguire, Silvagni)
M: Swan, Ablett, Selwood, Ball, Barlow, Bastanic
(Martin, JKT)
R: Sandilands, Seaby
(Warnock, Grimley)
F: Goodes, RoK, Tippett, Hall, Dangerfield, Hitchcock, N. Reiwoldt
(Gumbleton, Rockliff)

My team for Round 22
B: Goddard, Hodge, Enright, Malceski, Gilbert, Duffield, Kennelly
(Roberton, Webberley)
M: Swan, Ablett, Selwood, Montagna, Simpson*, Judd
(Martin, JKT)
R: Sandilands, Cox
(Skipper, Grimley)
F: Goodes, Pavlich, RoK, Rioli, Brown, PODs*, N. Reiwoldt
(Rockliff, Fyfe)

* These blokes are my 2 planned trade upgrades. Probably will become Chappy & Cross. :)

I'm very happy with my initial team and will plan on a Guns/Rookie strategy next year for sure. I don't want any of the issues I had with the likes of Dangerfield or Tippett; dropping in value so much so early. At least rookies prices will always (generally) go up!!

My team has changed 20 times this year and will use that same strategy again next year.

My team round 1.
B: Goddard, Hodge, Enright, Goodwin, H Shaw, Waters, Maguire emer: Silvagni, Nason

C: Ablett, J Selwood, Deledio, Higgins, Barlow, Martin emer: Shuey, JKT

R: Sandilands, Hille emer: Lobbe, Warnock

F: N Riewoldt, Franklin, Tippett, Dangerfield, Ziebell, Hall, Warren emer: Hitchcock, Peterson

My team round 22.
B: Goddard, Hodge, Enright, H Shaw, Gilbert, Waters, Maxwell emer: Webberley, O'Brien

C: Ablett, J Selwood, Deledio, Montagna, Judd, Goodes emer: Gysberts, McNeil

R: Sandilands, Tippett emer: Skipper, Warnock

F: N Riewoldt, Chapman, Pavlich, Franklin, O'keefe, Waite, Podsiadly emer: Ballantyne, Lobbe.

My initial team had a mixed strategy which in my opinion cost me a higher overall ranking..

In my back line I had the Gun/Rookie strategy.
In my centre line I had the Gun/Rookie strategy.
In my ruck division I had the Gun/Mid price/Rookie strategy.
In my forward line I had the Gun/Mid price/Rookie strategy.

If I could have my time again I would have have used the Gun/mid price/rookie strategy in the back line and in the forward line I would have used the Gun/Rookie strategy.. If my initial forward line looked like this;
(F: N Riewoldt, Chapman, Franklin, Brown, Pavlich, Rockliff, Fyfe emer: Pods, Peterson) and I had Malceski instead of H Shaw I would have been placed firmly inside the top 100...

So in summary there is no better strategy with Supercoach other than the Gun/Rookie strategy..

My team round 1.
B: Goddard, Hodge, Enright, Malceski, Gilbee, Hunt, Waite emer: Silvagni, Maguire

C: Ablett, Gibbs, Pendlebury, Barlow, Rich, Ladson emer: Martin, Banner

R: Naitanui, Hille emer: Lobbe, Grimley

F: N Riewoldt, Brown, Tippett, Dangerfield, Gumbleton, Hall, Gray emer: Rockliff, Podsiadly

My initial team had no strategy what so ever, had no clue how to play this game never heard of guns/rookies. What i tried to do was to get the most expensive players i could possibly get playing. Next year will be going with the guns/rookies strategy

Bolded names are players that I still have.

Round 1:
Backs: Goddard, Hodge, Shaw, Enright, Waters, Kennelly, Ladson, (Maguire Nason)

Mids: Ablett, Selwood, Stanton, Barlow, Bastinac, Martin, (Trengove, Shuey)

Rucks: Sandi, Hille, (Warnock, Trengove)

Forwards: N.Riewoldt, ROK, Waite, Byrnes, Medhurst, Hall, Tippett, (Hitchcock, Duncan)

Round 22:

Backs: Goddard, Hodge, Shaw, Enright, Waters, Gilbert, Newman, Webberley, Strijk

Mids: Ablett, Selwood, Stanton, Swan, Montagna, Judd, Gysberts, Shuey

Rucks: Sandi, Cox, Trengove, Bass

Forwards: N.Riewoldt, ROK, Waite, Chapman, J.Brown, Pavlich, Podsiadly, Rockliff, Peterson

Regrets:
- Taking Ladson instead of Malceski
- Rolling the dice on too many mid priced forwards. I expected at least 2 of them to become premium keepers, but really Waite is the only one that came close.

I'm in 3 grand finals (2 weak comps, 1 strong comp), and am ranked just over 1000th overall. So happy.

Round 1 team:
Goddard, Hodge, Enright, Joel Macdonald, Ladson, Hunt, Waters, Maguire, Silvagni.
Ablett, NDS, Cooney, Vince, Barlow, Bastinac, Martin, Shuey.
Sandilands, Hille, Warnock, Lobbe.
Goodes, Riewoldt, Franklin, Hall, Medhurst, Tippett, Hitchcock, Peterson, Gumbleton.

Looking back that forward line was a disaster with those midpricers. The backline isn't much better - picking the worst two out of the Kennelly, Malceski, Ladson and Hunt set didn't help, and Vince and JMac set the world on fire with their mediocrity. Looking at this makes me feel a lot better about where I ended up, ranking and team-wise.

Round 22 team (keepers bolded, Riewoldt went out and back in obviously):
Goddard, Hodge, Enright, Gilbert, Malceski, Kennelly, Waite, Hams, Webberley.
Ablett, NDS, Cooney, Swan, Murphy, Judd, McNeil, Shuey.
Sandilands, Cox, Warnock, Lobbe.
Goodes, Riewoldt, Franklin, Pavlich, Brown, ROK, Gray, Pods, Gumbleton.

Obviously Shuey and Gumby were kept due to injury. Howlett, Playfair and Higgins all made it in and out of my team during the year, the first two as cash cows and the last as a trade to Gray last round to cover late outs (proved his value coming in for Pav last week and Brown this week, shame about ROK last week and Pods this week).

Lesson learnt: midpricers aren't worth the gamble unless they're actually a discounted premium (Cooney, Franklin). Had eight genuine midpricers (not counting Waters and Maguire who were rookie priced), only Hille really paid off because I was always targeting Cox as my second ruck once his price had dropped.
