Getting started for Season 2012 with redesigning my ladder logos. I have designed these for over ten years now and next year I have decided allow other people to use them and to design them. After designing them for myself for my ladder for over a decade the ideas start to dry up.

These logos I have designed with paint are 45 cm by 8.5 cm but they aren't printed at that size. The clubs name is displayed across the middle and the club logo is displayed twice with the club mascot covering the left and logo. To give you an example of what I have done I have uploaded the ladder logos for the two 2011 Grand Finalists, Collingwood and Geelong, and what I have done so far with the Greater Western Sydney logo.

Geelong (2011 Premiers)

Collingwood

Greater Western Sydney (work in progress)

I will upload my other ones if people start designing some as well. My idea is to create ladder logos for the 18 AFL teams that are easy to read and are visually pleasing.

This could be a really good idea for users to put on their profiles if they've got gold or platinum memberships. Over a decade though? I'd be interested to see how they've evolved over time.

Here are the three you posted in a quick mockup of what I think might work:

Basic idea is: Background is the teams guernsey (or a representation of it), 2 logos full one on the left, a larger one that only shows part of it on the right, uniform text font.

More work is needed though, but you get the idea.

Yeah the font is a bit hard to read. But I agree that they should all have the same font. Nice work.

Yep, keep it simple. Although I'm not a huge fan of that font Craegus, the readability seems a little poor.

Yeah I know, I just wanted to give an example, and I didn't want to go through all the fonts I have.

Here is an updated version:

I did at one stage make all of these logos with the same typeface, however they look better when they are in the same typeface as clubs logo.

Also having the mascot on there gives the logo character. The magpie mascot is the one from the premiership sticker in the Herald Sun last year.

I'm abit confused about what these things are used for though

I know this isn't what they were intended for, but they'd make great car bumper stickers :thumbsu:

They are for your AFL Ladder on the wall. Instead on the little cardboard things that you put into the main board in the order the ladder is you put these on the wall, with blu-tac. I created a board for them to go on this year with the MCG in the background.

So instead of having all 18 teams just in the same font on pieces of card, I used these. I like to use the words from the club logos on these. Like for Geelong, take the Geelong from the top of the logo , times new roman, and then Cats front the bottom, something like arial black or impact.

Keeping to the images and fonts that the clubs use makes each of these logos unique to each club. The SAINTS on the saints logo is from the Saint magazine. I try to keep it to what the club has used or are using now.

I also use them on the top of football fixtures for teams. It has been suggested that they could be used for other things. But as I am not the owner of the pictures used I would get nothing for it.

This Giants one is totally baben. I'm starting to really like the Giants logo and brand.

But seeing as we recently had a thread about fonts, couldn't you interpret those fonts for each club? It'd look a lot tidier. Plus I think it's better off keeping to a clean design. The Geelong one is an eyesore.

I'll echo the sentiments of everyone else and ask this: What are these for?

The one you used in your quote isn't the one I done. Because GWS hasn't released a mascot and other club logos we'll have to wait until November for their release.

The logos have developed over many years as ladder logos for each team. First I started with just cut out logos from the football fixture, then I used to draw them, the I started to used the computer to make them. They became these long pictures so I could display the name of the club so it was easy to see.

The Geelong on uses how the cat is displayed to display the club name. Also you have to remember that the former Geelong logo, the one with GFC, use to have lines stopping on the logo so the GFC could be put in.

At the local Dollar Store they have Photo Magnet paper.
You can print anything out, peel off the sticky label from the sheet, then put whatever you print onto the magnet.
Then you cut them to the right size.
Then stick them to a White board.
It's what I used for a ladder now that Gold Coast and GWS are in and I am a long way from an AFL Store. (Or those Easter Eggs with the ladders down the side of the box)

At home you could probably ask a craft type store like Lincraft or Riot Art & Craft.

I know for certain "Geelong" isn't in Times New Roman. Haven't had much luck trying to identify it though.

here's mine for 2012.
A work in progress until we see what GWS actually look like, whether Richmond introduce their new logo and what the Bulldogs do with name, jumper and logo.
Also expecting Essendon to do something in the next year or so, but like all things Essendon recently, no-one is saying anything.
Which is different from outright denials, so I suspect something is happening there.

Those look awesome Mero well done :thumbsu:

Can't wait to see your final designs for 2012 :)

a question ive always wanted to ask mero? why is your website so plain on the front page? is it more because you want your website to be a resource and not a wizz bang site? coz its good i reckon thats its so simple.

Someone else accessed my BigFooty account and my picture library. They changed my profile and deleted my pictures, They have payed for what they did. I will start this thread on the Team Ladder logos again.

It's because I am more historian than web designer.
In fact, the template was provided by Andy from BomberBlitz at the same time as he said I could use some of their server space.
I have never done anything other than add pages and jumpers to those pages.
Anything more than what can be accomplished with Copy & Paste is beyond me.

Mr Eagle said he would help me make it more whiz bang... but.. you know... he's probably been busy...
