Quote from Peter Rohde after Sundays game:

"I don’t think that Mitch looked comfortable playing in defence so we took him off."

Why is he named in the back pocket for this week?!?!

I would have liked to have seen Harris added to the 22 and I would expect Croft to line up in defence.
I would like to also to see McGuinness or Hargrave be given the job on Hird. Not sure where they will play Skipper, perhaps across half forward alongside of Bandy.

I reckon Hargy would be a near certainty for Hird if he goes forward but if he plays that floating midfield role then we will have to look else where. Its time for Rohde to get on the front foot and try and take the game away from Essendon.

Would love to see Crossy given a run with role.He is ready and has been for some time.Ramanauskas would be my choice.

With McGuiness in the side, it gives the side more flexibility as he can play forward & back.
If Bandy struggles once again, it allows Skipper to have a go to play CHF, where Rhode will no doubt instruct him to just make a contest.
Bandy could then try & find some footy at CHB.
Cross adds some more strength in the midfield, although not strongly built, he goes at the footy hard and makes a contest, something we have been lacking in recent weeks.

It would be a good match up for Hargrave and real test to see if he can play well against the games elite.
I'm not so sure that Cross is ready for the senior side against such a physical team like Essendon. I still would have liked to have seen Harris in the squad because if they play the likes of Alessio or Fletcher forward he would be the ideal player to match up against them

He is playing the exact type of football that Rohde wants us to play and he is in the reserves.I just think he has done well and truly enough to get an extended run on the ground. You know he will put his body in and theres not a player around thats going to beat him for fitness over four quarters.Essendon is overated as a physical team anyway IMO.It adds a bit of freshness to the team in any case.

Just looking at there side they would be odds on to play Fletcher or Jacobs forward. There big men are depleted but still alot stronger than ours.Cant see any of the big men named spending much time on the bench.

Yeah i agree dogboy. He has been playing some good footy for werribee so i think it is about time he got a go with the seniors. Lets just hope he gets a lot of ground time to show everyone what hes got, instead of sitting on the bench all the time like some other players.

I really cant say that I have seen him put his body on the line. For mine, he tends to hang back from a contest too much. A great runner with terrific endurance so a run with role might be what they have in mind for him. I hope he has a good game and actually gets some minutes so we can really see how good he is or might be.

Cross is probably more accountable for his opponent than other players. I think this is really what Rhode is after, not just players that are prepared to put their body on the line. Hanging back from the contest is sometimes a good idea and perhaps he is instructed to do it. I think we did this too much last week though and it was no wonder we got so many 'in the back' frees against us as we were far too often 2nd to the contest.

We can only hope that he is given a reasonable amount of time on the ground but if the last 3 weeks are anything to go, by i doubt it.

I know a lot of people here believe that Cross is an emerging talent but I think he is not the physical type we need that would seperate him from the likes of Murphy, McMahon, Power and co.
I had a good look at him at the Bendigo game and he did not appear to have improved on his weaker areas from the previous season as you would expect him to do.
Like you, I hope they give him enough on ground time

kept Richmond to 27 goals
1980 was a richmond premiership year
I didn't mind Ian Morrison, Wheeler a good back pocket but the rest duds.
Would have been worse if the 3rd guy we got for Dempsey was in there.
