Sounds wise to me.

We have close to our strongest side out there. The Hawks have a few out like Rioli, Burgoyne and Young. Should be a very good contest if both teams are serious about winning.

Tag Hodge and Mitchell and you can expect Lewis to kill us again. Fortunately they're going to have the same problem and won't be able to tag all of our players.

A quick glance and I see there is also no Bateman, Osborne and a big one in Renouf. This means they'll be going in with Taylor and Kayler-Thompson in the ruck. Would have thought Skipper would have got a gig.

Hi Doggies, I have never posted outside of the Hawks board before so be nice to me.

Just to clarify, Kayler-Thompson is a defender not a ruckman. We are playing Taylor and Sam Grimley in the ruck. Grimley is very raw & very light but he is very athletic, very quick and measures in at 199.5 cm so it will be great to see how he goes and great to see how the Hawks go against a top quality opposition. Looking forward to a good game.

Cheers.

P.S. If the Hawks don't win the Premiership this year then I hope it is the Doggies.

By the looks of things both teams will be fielding pretty strong squads for the game. Hawks will be out to prove some kind of point as the last time we played them 88 pts the margin was i think. Should be a good game, can't wait to see Barry in action. I reckon we could get 50+ goals out of him this year.

I agree that both teams are fielding strong sides and hopefully the game will a good contest.

I'm not sure if you are setting the bar a bit high for Hall. 50 would be at the top end of what I think he can kick for us.

First up thoughts:

Best "22" not playing: Bailey, Osborne, Burgoyne, Bateman, Young, Rioli, Renouf. 1st and 2nd choice rucks, and our 5 best runners. It didn't matter last week as our onballers dominated the Tigers, but that won't happen against Cross and co. Even Skipper is out injured at the moment.

Franklin's over his hand injury from 09 so his marking is back to normal. Taylor didn't give away a single free last week  which transforms him into a decent ruck, and Hodge in the middle gives us some massive drive. With all of our runners out, we'll be relying on our long-kicking hbf's (Guerra, Ladson, Birchall, Suckling) and onballers (Hodge, Mitchell, Sewell, Lewis, Ellis, Shiels) to generate most of our momentum.

So I'd expect Lake to have a massive game cutting up some long kicks i50, unless we can 'over-run' you like we did the Tigers (pretty bloody unlikely).

Defensively we are more or less at full strength, but Clarkson tends to play around with matchups and TOG quite a bit in pre-season.

It's pretty rare to go down a NAB-cup team-sheet and find 18 guys that scream finals player...I think both teams have this.

Looking forward to it.

I was driving over 'Mt Mistake' this morning and on the Gordon St ramp and noticed Johnno 'power wallking' around the ground. There appeared to a bit of a limp there and my impression was that he would a few weeks away yet.

I would expect at least 30 from him and assisting others in the forward line. He will give us relief by taking a good defender and also hopefully be a "big" target for us crashing some packs and bringing the ball to the ground for our smaller guys. Something we have struggled with, personally Big Willy struggle to do that for us consistently and to good effect last year. I'm hoping Barry can bring more goals to the likes of Hahn Johno Hilly Murph etc. If this happens 30 would be fine. If he gets good supply in though 50 is not out of the question.
